  • Ever found a tangled family line in FamilySearch Family Tree and wondered about the best way to fix it? There are no magic wands; however, in this class, we'll learn principles and processes that make untangling these problems easier and less error-prone. To be successful in this session participants should have solid experience working in Family Tree. They don't have to be experts, but should understand how to navigate, read pedigrees and person pages, and view/attach sources.

Your ordering of steps was so very helpful. Undoing merges has always been a scary thought. Not wanting to take that route, I suspect I made things messier than they needed to be. Loved your point about going back to the originally intended person. You're right, correcting (disconnecting) relationships is not intuitive, to me, and your explanation cleared up a couple of points. You present in a very forgiving nonjudgmental way which is greatly appreciated. 99.9% of folks are trying to get it right. We are always learning, whether it better ways research, or how the best way to use the wonderful technology within FamilySearch site. Thank You.

I really appreciate the addition of the Collaboration space, as well as the NOTICE button, so that if I think you made a mistake (because there are no sources-argh!) then I can question it, and you can let me know how you came to that conclusion. Did this just yesterday, with a marriage. Again, records are sooo important. Thank you for your seminar. 😊

I was hoping there was a magic wand, or at least a flag to prevent more people from merging to a person who is already in multiple countries with a dozen spouses at the same time in the 1800's. Merging is so much easier than unmerging errors it seems.

The site is getting worse. Today I went to look at some census and can't even find a link. I've had it with FS. Between the crappy users and the forever changes formats I've had enough. GRRRRRRRRRR!
