    Working with your Dad on a Sunday night is precious. My dad got me into the family tree research and I ran with it, way back in 1994. We managed to have a trip back to his birth town last year before he passed away in November, now there is just me in the immediate family that is interested. I wish he was still here to share the progress with.

    Crista I feel like you are part of my family as I turn to your videos on a daily basis for genealogy journey.
    I never gave a second glance at directories until one night I actually opened on and read the detail.
    I’m sure you heard me scream when a brick wall suddenly exploded. After searching for years I found a directory with siblings which led to more sources and well, rabbit hole of total excitement. I can’t thank you enough for all of your knowledge. ❤

    Crista, I felt like you were talking directly to me! Thank you for your awesome presentation! What an awesome thing to do with your Dad on Sunday nights! Treasure your parents! My husband got me started asking questions when I would talk to my Mom on Saturday mornings. She gave me some information but I wanted more. Her answer was "why do you want to know more?" She passed away in 2005 before I could tell her what I had found and have been finding. I've been able to trace her Father's side of the family all the way back to the First Colony! I've been doing "happy dances" ever since. My Father's family came from Romania so I can't get as much information there. I just want to thank you for your talk! Enjoy your nibblings!!

    I would love to see the 1921 British census on ancestry. Also a far better filtering of searches. Whenever filter a search as exact searches it almost always says zero matches found. I pull the filter back and a hundred matches found with the exactly same spelling.

    Thanks for sharing about acknowledging the original owner of a photo, (even a document) I know that the original owner of a photo may have tons more information about a person than a person who copied it. I ALWAYS share how I obtained a photo if I have added a copy to my tree. When I post, I now add in the description how I obtained the item. If they copy that photo, my statement is attached to the photo in the description and will share right along with the photo.

      The older I get the more I realize how important it is to make notations when uploading a photo or a document. Chances are 10 years from now I'm not going to remember where I got it

      I have lots of hints for photos from a cousin. She copied from my tree as I am the original owner of the photos. She shared them to her tree and now I receive hints on my photos.

    • @tinkinc85
      @tinkinc85 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@elizabethalioto1758 this happens when the new poster download the photo and then re-uploads it to their own tree. If they simply share the photo from the original tree to their own tree it creates a linkage and avoids making new hints. Took me a couple years to figure that out

    I used to have 1 tree per grandparent. They were eventually merged because adding nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, etc, to each tree became too cumbersome. By merging the trees, I found duplications of people which led to finding cousins related in multiple ways. Ex; my mother's siblings married distant cousins of my father. Therefore my maternal first cousins are also 4th and 5th paternal cousins.

    Very interesting presentation. One point I often think of is as time passes many family trees will have living person entries that will become deceased. If the records are not updated there could be many entries with age's well past 100 + and still living. Does Ancestry have any plans to mark a person as deceased after a certain age ?

  • @lorisilverstein3010
    @lorisilverstein3010 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    With the social climate these days I feel that there needs to be a minor update to the format. When you enter a person's name I feel that there needs to be another name field added to this: reasons being: adoptions the first name line can be for the legal name at birth and a second name field for the adopted name field. This can also work with the binaries and trans, like my daughter in law changed her name legally because she thought she would become a published author, criminals with known aliases, immigrants etc. next to suffixes you can have another drop down menu to identify the name as a legal, alternative, or a preferred nickname.

    Just to clarify, for the ANCESTRY FAMILY PLANS new subscriptions...5 people total. All working on the SAME tree?? Of course, that makes sense but I have 2 cousins each working on their own VERSION of our shared family. I would love to collaborate with them as a family group. When will new fee structures be available? My subscription ends in June so can I switch over before then?

    The problem with Communities and Communities by Parent is that the "Featured matches" for that community are 3 very close family members. Those people are in all of my communities. So this makes that feature useless. It would be more helpful if "featured matches" were your top 10 matches that are from that community.

    You know what would be great, to be able to download segment data for shared matches to put into a real DNA painter tool.
    This sibscription is expensive, then the put up a pay wall for "pro tools" and can't even see segment data for chromosome painting.
    This company is greedy.
