    Great review. An easy way to put a heavy e-bike on the rack is to set the bike next to the rack; hold the rear brake and lift the front wheel, using the rear wheel as a pivot point; put the front wheel on the tray; and then lift the rear wheel onto the tray. It has the effect of cutting the weight by around 1/3.

    i bought a super duty single unit and one add-on then a bunch of my friends followed suit after seeing how awesome and sturdy this bike rack is! then we just lend each other an add-on if we're shuttling or someone needs to load more than 2 bikes for friends or visitors. we love it!

    We’ve had ours for 7 years. Still looks and works like new. Added a single rack so we can carry 3 bikes, and the swing out arm for when we have it on the camper.
    Glad to see you use the best of the best! 🎉

    They are great racks, I also have the swing out arm so it is easier to get in the bed of my Ram 1500 when I'm camping. That tail light is a good idea!

    I thought this might be a bit silly BUT it was super well done. All of its 100% spot on. I would only add that customer service is AMAZING! My slide rack got hard to slide due to dirt or something. They sent a PDF file, I loosened a bolt, not the one on the would have assumed or seemed like a first wrench point…. Oiled it a bit and back in the saddle so to speak!
    Super overview! As always

    Love the 1up rack. Nice job covering some of the many benefits. One key advantages over most racks of is the ability to roll the bike forward and back to get the bikes to fit just right and avoiding touching.

    Welcome! 1 UP USA has been my company of choice for close to a decade. From spin trainers in the early days to bike racks (add on platforms good!) locks, lights, etc. Great company. Oh, and if you hold the release in a neutral position when moving it it saves the track. Just be mindful of the tray width and weight limits, especially with full power (weight) e-bikes and wider tires available. 3" max, or you need to use a ratchet strap to assist as the wheel guides will not fit over the wheel, and fatbike tires do NOT fit into, but hang over the tray. Sketchy, not recommended, doable in a pinch. (ask me how I know?) Nice to see you posting again . . .

    I have the 1UP. I bought it because I have 2 ebikes and they are not light.
    While the cost is stupid high, the peace of mind is WELL worth it.
    I love how easy it is to load and unload and I like how it’s customizable.
    I am not a big guy and my bikes are heavy af, so having a carrier that does not injure me while loading/unloading is a true plus.
    I cannot imagine a better solution for bike/ebike transport.

    I love my 1up rack. Most of my riding is BMX racing with my kids in the summer, plus fatbiking in the winter. I have 2 add-ons, for 3 20" bikes plus a 24" cruiser, and with the add-on the rack can handle everything from the 20x 1 1/8" mini BMX tires to my 26x 4.8" fattie.

    April great review of the 1UP rack. I love how it was designed. I got mine 2 years ago and realized that the price of a good rack is better than replacing a bike that has fallen off or damaged by a less expensive rack.1Up has not let me down. Great review. I sent this video to some buddies who are looking for a good rack system.

    Been using the 1up for years, their customer service was great when the rack broke, sent out the replacement part quickly and no fighting to get it. Use it on my wife’s car, she can get her bike on and off by herself. One complaint about the locks, you can easily break them off with a hammer in less than a minute. All locks can be beat though, so I supplement with a chain as well when I know we are going to stop somewhere.

    Had no idea that lock was for the wheel! I always put it through the holes on my hitch as double security to prevent it from being stolen and to ensure maximum clearance from my vehicle! Guess I'll get another one to secure the wheel as well!😅

  • @siradinar
    @siradinar ปีที่แล้ว

    You touched on all the amazing benefits on the 1up! Love mine so much! For me, I started off with 2 trays for a roof rack. Then when I got a car with a 1 1/4" hitch, I only had to buy the hitch assembly instead of a completely new rack. Also for future proofing, I got the 2" hitch assembly but they have an adapter to use with a smaller hitch, so again, I could use everything just once instead of having to buy a completely new rack for different vehicles. And having replacement parts for every part on the rack makes it where you can pretty much use it forever, only replacing parts that get damaged or wear out. The modular aspect is nice too - you can put on as many racks as needed. They also have scratch and dent sales several times a year so it's a good way to get what you want at a discount! Their customer support is great too - they helped me figure out exactly what I needed to upgrade it the way I needed. I can't gush enough about them! Super solid product - no plastic parts to break.

    Great Racks. Just a heads up for those of you using the wheel lock. I know most of you know this, but it's really easy to defeat that lock. Simply just take out the thru axle and pop the bike off as if you were removing the wheel. Yes the thief would technically be leaving behind 1x wheel (front or rear depending on where you put the wheel lock) but that can still be a spendy loss that literally would only take about 10 seconds to defeat.

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  ปีที่แล้ว

      Would be a lot harder to take it off if it’s through the back wheel!

    Great review, April. I am very biased on these racks because of everything you mentioned plus living on a peninsula with coastal tropical weather I need something that will last. (FL)
    I've been strictly using 1UP racks now since 2017 and have been a "bad influence" to my inner circle of riders as they splurged with buying one of their own. ☺️
    They're great because they are aluminum with SS hardware. Great for us Floridians where stuff rusts quickly and gets beat up by the sun. Love your perspective on the rack. Congrats and I know you too will have years of simplicity transporting your babies to your shreddy destinations. 🤘🏽

    Somewhat surprised you didn't purchase/review the Equip'D version of this rack - it is the next generation of the one you have. Has longer and wider trays, sturdier arms, base, etc., and is only slightly more expensive. The longer trays are very helpful in staggering more than one bike so that bike parts don't collide, etc. The one you review, while still good, is a bit outdated when compared to the newer version...
    The only part of the original that I feel might be slightly better is the release lever is longer and sturdier and thus provides more leverage in releasing the arms... The newer version has a plastic finger tab and if the arms are tightened to a decent extent it can be difficult to release the tension when removing the bikes from the rack...
    Love 1UpUSA and as you noted, that they are made in the US.
    Big fan of you two as well....

    “Bike lock” paired with quick release skewer up front and tool removable rear wheel. Goodbye frame. Well at least you’ll end up with a pair of tires. Not a total loss. Locking system needs to go through frame but it is better than nothing at all. 😂

    Congratulations! That is a really nice bikerack which I really admire!!! I have no criticism of your choice. It was my second choice, as I wanted a multi-purpose rack to mount on the back of my 3/4 Ton Diesel Ram. I chose a much heavier duty Thule which expands to 4 bikes and I have even hauled mattresses to the dump and a bale of hay, along with my Commencal, to the Oregon Coast. But, for just a wonderful bikerack, you chose the best! Thank you - I enjoyed your review. 😊

    I love the rack as well but I still don't own one. Only issue I have noticed since I am in a Bay Area Mtb group is the racks themselves seem to get stolen very easily. My understanding is the lock to the hitch. Thieves are able to break the lock and just steal everything. Shared Craigslist post in my group with OneUps with the missing hitch lock seems to be happening way to often😢. Plus Craigslist post with individuals selling multiple racks.

    Hello I had a question regarding your timp peak. I'm in between bike size and also 5'6" considering a small vs medium. Are you riding a size small timp peak? Does the small feel balanced or does it ever feel nose heavy? I tried a small turbo levo previously although the size was very nice but it felt slightly nose heavy at times but the medium frame didn't. I'm considering buying a fezzari just would like your opinion on the bike/feel for the frame size. Much appreciated.

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re in luck because I am also 5’6”! I ride a small timp peak. One thing about e bikes in general is they might feel a little nose heavy at first if you are not use to them or haven’t ridden one in a little bit, so just give it a day or so to get the feel again.

    Security of bikeracks is a problem. Crooks are breaking these little locks (boat trailers as well). I bought a real 3/8" Belgium Chain (from Oregon Logging) and wrapped it around underneath my truck hitch and then around my rack and locked it with a gigantic Italian lock (also from Oregon Logging). Any time my bikes are outside a restaurant, we sit by the window and can see my bike with the 3/8" chain wrapped around it. In our college town, they will also steal your little lights soooo fast - but I pull them off into my pockets.
    A lightning theft was observed right outside our financial advisor's window. The owner gave chase and got the pickup's description and it was stopped on the way out of town.
    BTW my bikes at home are chained to a longer 1/2" Belgium Chain.
    As I type, my Commencal sits indoor beside me at our Coast Cabin. We are just getting ready to head home with it sittling locked onto the rack.

    What stops you pulling the axles and just walking away with the frame?

      I usually lock the back wheel, so it would be harder to do so and if I’m in an area that seems more sketchy I use a chain.

      @@AprilRideMTB Thanks for the reply. Seems to be an opportunity for the manufacturer to design a lock that goes through the main triangle although I doubt many of us would leave our bikes on the rack for any length of time.

    Bike racks on big-ass pick up trucks with hug cargo beds - classic.
    WTH is the truck even for? (Other than drinking gas, blinding us with headlights that aim up into the sky and penis over-compensation)?

    Nice that the rack doesn't use any plastic parts that eventually wither after some time. Most racks use plastic or rubber straps to hold and/or secure then easily break.

    Don't trust the locks they can be cut in seconds. You will be stopped by Police because the rack covers your tag and turn signals. You can make a place to extend the tag.
