  • John From to the Garage Gives a tour of the cockpit in his JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Nissan Elgrand E51. These 3.5 litre petrol, Van / Car / Bus / Limos, are quirky, comfortable, quick, and well equipped. They were never intended to be sold in the UK but the uniqueness of their design has made them a popular choice with private importers. In this film we look at controls and features in the very front of Johns 2005 car.

    I had the earlier e50 3.2 highway star version 4wd. An absolutely brilliant car never ever let me down, just kept going only sold it because its fuel economy wasnt the best, but apart from that, brilliant car.

      I believe that the E50 is still amougst the most common base vehicles for ambulances in Japan Due to the combo of Fast van and reliability.

    I can only congratulate you on a most comprehensive and well produced video. So helpful. You should complete a series on the E51 as your attention to detail was A1 and you stuck to the task and kept on topic. It’s so refreshing to not have some lame host trying to ad lib and go continuously off on a tangent. Great job.

    FANTASTIC VIDEO! I just bought one of these myself, and there is so much to get my head around. I've got a 2008 top of the range, specced out model, but I can't imagine it has all that much more in the way of features.

    I checked and found out,these are not sold in Holland .

    Great video. Absolutely love our VG and prefer the cloth interior it has over the leather which always dates a car (of any age). Ours was optioned to the max so has most of the features of an XL.

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Peter. I must admit that I am always drawn to leather (Particularly paler leathers) and bought Elli based on being able to buy her cheaply to see if I liked the model. But you are absolutely correct in that the cloth interior hides its age much more effectively than all but the most cosseted examples in higher specs.

    I enjoyed your guided tour despite I have an Elgrand E51. Just one thing to add. My MOT station didn't like the GPS based mph meter as they have to test the meter in stationery, not on the road.

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Attila. Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
      Re your mot station, by their logic every speedo would fail, as the test requires a 'working' Speedo reading in MPH. All speedos look broken when the car is stationary!

    Is that 'Older Mercedes Drivers' or drivers of older Mercedes? Anyway, my old XC90 had a foot operated parking brake, so yes, guess you mean me either way!
    I haven't had a 'correctly' positioned indicator stalk since about 1987 and that was on a 1976 Chevette.

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      🤣 yes & Yes! I guess the foot park brake is a pretty good idea in any car with a wide enough foot well. I think we should start a campaign to get RHD indicators and bonnet releases back on all RHD cars

    • @gerardbooth40

    Hi John. I have recently acquired an E52, almost identical to Ellie. Your video was excellent and was a huge help in finding may way around the controls. I notice that Ellie had the same blanks (no fog lights) as I have in my E51 and have not been able to figure out what aftermarket lamps will fit as the apertures seems smaller than most other E51 models. Can you give me any info that would help in locating the correct fog lamp fittings. The harness is all there with a connectors in place

    I bought an XL and kinda wish I had a poverty spec as it'd be a fair bit lighter and switching stereos isn't easy, the weird thing is the XL doesn't even have its own badge.
    Base models are often kitted out with options, you seem to have quite a few in the curtains, rear video screen, 2 x electric rear doors and parking sensors.. you forgot to show off the moving center seat/console too, that's something I think I would prefer to the fixed center console on my XL.

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The XL is practically a lear jet interior from memory complete with leg rests.

    The mains output you referred to is only 100vac which is the Japanese domestic supply and not 110vac. Not only that it’s output is limited to 1a or 100w just enough to power a small electronic device. And because there isn’t an earth pin only devices that are double insulated or don’t require and can be plugged in. 3 to 2 pin adapters should not be used.

      If it looks like im going to be keeping her a while then LPG is a real possibility. My Jag independent specialist is also an LPG converter so it would be an easy decision to make in one regard but circa £1300 means I would have to be sure im keeping her for a while
