Just a FYI you can use the same standoffs on your posts as well just use long screws to attach to the fence pole uprights. You can also run it on the top-rail as well to keep other animals from jumping the fence. If you have a plastic coated fence you will need to run a ground wire 2 “ below the hot wire. I just installed one before I saw this video. I couldn't find any chainlink fence mounts. I used some old schedule 40 conduit I had from a previous project and cut a bunch of 1.5" pieces. I ziptied them to the fence posts about 8" from the ground and made a lap around the fence with a roll of poly wire. I have a very stubborn XL bully who had figured out how to push out under the fence. Now, neither the XL bully or our pocket pittie will get within 6 feet of the fenceline. No way, no how. I figure I could unplug it now without any fear. Great video.
Took a couple of goes to see it through 👍 gr8 job Shane 👏 quite tip having worked with electric fencing in the past grab it in the palm with a tensed forearm and you can quite easily cope with a few wacks, when you touch it with relaxed mussels it makes your mussels contract fast and that's what hurts, just line it up and grab it hard, Honest bro you'll be surprised how much bigger fence you can safely grab test. It's still not something you do for fun but it's less painful than a soft touch 👍🍻

Keep an eye on your unit to make sure it is running, mine failed a year after getting it and my precious boy realized it wasn't working and was over my fence the first chance he had. They can sense the pulse after they touch it once or twice they don't like it. When my boxer got out the second time, he was exhausted by the time I caught him so it is not safe for him to get out, afraid of heat exhaustion for him. If you haven't done an updated video, I would really like to see it. Our fury babies are so precious and will do anything to protect mine.
We are really lucky, they don't test it anymore lol. We put them in the back and they stay. Honestly we don't even have it turned in anymore. Love our pups and sounds like you have a great pup as well. Thanks so much
That reminds me of a time many many moons ago I was weed whacking around a quail pen that had a electric fence around it . (This was a Big Pen that had bobwhite quail in it , I was whacking along and got to the corner where the wire went up to the ceiling where it connected to the buzz box and I accidentally hit my forehead against the wire , it felt like a bomb went off in my head !!! 😉🤪🤣

I have to do this for my two dogs because I need them to stay outside all day for several weeks. I have a Lab that will bark to get inside for awhile until he realizes there is no one there to hear him. The second dog is a different story, he's a stray that tries every minute he's outside to dig under the fence. Maybe that's why he was running free along the highway and no one spoke up to claim him, he dug under the fence more than once, he's a lot of work, but he's a sweetheart! Thanks for your video.
I pre drilled a hole in each post of my chain link. One up top an one near the bottom. Then I screwed the plastic piece to the pole. Works waaaaaaay better an I saved a few bucks. It actually looks really good too and nice and neat .
We are researching this option for an Anatolian Shepherd we took in as a county shelter rescue. Have since learned that breed is notorious for being super independent, and not really caring about your efforts at training. These are big powerful dogs. And in this guy's case, he has literally ripped the chain link webbing apart to get out through a gate. Repeatedly. And goes for 2-4 hour walkabouts through the woods and fields and stream around us. One time he came back with a bloody muzzle, like a polar bear that just ate a seal. No idea what he ran across and he wasn't talking. We have a decent fenced in back yard, in the middle of a 10 acre property, surrounded by hundreds of acres of other people's private land for him to get into trouble. This is looking more and more like a good option.
Ya we have 2 large dogs(110 + lb), one can scale the 6' chain-link fence in 2 seconds, both dig a little but mostly jump, I have a set of the insulators ordered. After searching online, it seems the ones he is using would hold up the longest. Other ones are all plastic and seem to break a lot, the part that attaches to the fence, one part seems to break and these ones are metal so they would be the better option.

Some put out more voltage/shock ability than others, I think it partially has to do with how many miles it can handle. Mine is for good for 20 miles of fence, I plan on using it for the chicken run and garden area along with the yard for the dogs, I just need to run the insulating sleeves/shielding underground to hook it all up and keep it from grounding out.
Hey Shane, I've got a five mile electric fence box from Tractor Supply and it came with a short plugin cord. May I suggest leaving the fence on all the time. My Shepherds hear it when it's pulsating so guess what? When it's not on they get out. Just a warning!. I've got mine low like yours and they won't get close enough to it to try to climb out.
Hi, really enjoyed your video. Been there done that, lol. I have a lab that likes to dig under the fence and climb over. So I got me the exact unit you did. Well eventually he did start digging under the electric fence which I had at anywhere between 8 to 14 inches from the ground and I would have to lower at his digging spots and he also started jumping over the gate so I put a line with a handle on it. My problem with the lab is he's very scared of thunder, fireworks, and firearms, plus when a female is in heat, he gets so scared or the scent gets too strong for him that he disregards the electric fence and jumps out over the fence even as he gets shocked momentarily shocked. I've heard him yelp. It's funny because the gap he jumps out through is only about 8" wide at the most, maybe less. Now I'm thinking about screwing a 1×8 board to the post. But whenever I fix one spot to prevent him from getting out, he finds another. He's driving me nuts, lol. Anyway, I was thinking about getting an underground electric fence to supplement the physical electric fence and install maybe 2 feet inside the perimeter of the physical one. My theory is he won't attempt to get too close to the physical one because he'll get a correction before he reaches it, but then again, I'm not sure how that would work against his fear, where nothing matters. Also, since the underground is wireless and sends a signal to a collar he would be wearing, I'm wondering if the physical one would cause any interference to the wireless signal. Ok, not sure if you follow me. Ok, well keep up the good work. Your vid was plain and simple and easy to follow. Sorry for the length of comment. I hope it makes sense.

We have a large coop with a chain link around it so they can free range. We have a hungry bobcat that likes to visit and has taken a few of our males. This looks like a great resolve if we can do a high and low. Any additional tips or suggestions? What’s the one you have for the pigs??
We bought a big solar charger from tractor supply 7000 volts it works great. I tell ya what I do for my chickens. I have a small radio playing 24 hrs a day. It works great except on opossum and raccoons. Hopefully this helps.
I just bought a solar charger from tractor supply. DONT SKIMP lol get a big one and a roll of wire. Not sure what style of posts you have but they sell conductors to fit all styles
A safe way to test the fence out is to use a 12" blade of grass, hold the one end and touch the tip and slowly slide your hand closer to the hot wire. It will start off as a slight tingle and get more intense the closer to you get to the hot fence wire.
A good video. However while all GS will dig, many will also jump. I had two that would clear that fence at 6 months old. As a Electro/Mechanical designer I had to post even though this is an older video. Having power feed to a fence and running an electric cable through it is just setting up for an accident. Cant see in this video, but anyone watching needs to make sure that charger is setup in a dry location otherwise rain is going to get into that socket. The mounting/location and power to the charger is about the only concern I have on a otherwise good video.

I bought it all at tractor supply. The charger unit is only like 30$ a role of wire not much more. The clips I think were like 10 $ a bag I used 2 bags. It absolutely works. My dogs don't go near the fence anymore
Thank you oh go or your reply! I’ve have went round and round with this fence! I have one ground wire/rod. Do I need 2? I have doubled checked everything. I made sure the ground rod was drove deep into the ground as well.
I did notice with your hot wire and ground wire that the hot wire ran off to the right and the ground wire straight out. Because of where my electric source is my ground wire runs straight out from the amp box and the hot wire runs to the left and right behind the ground wire. They don’t touch but would that make a difference?
Drill some holes in the corners and wire it that way. It’d be more stable and look better. Loved this btw, I have to check my city code but I keep getting a neighbors massive pit bulls in my front yard that have been aggressive toward myself and worse my dogs, basically the owner lets his dogs out anytime regardless they’ve caused problems for myself and neighbors (their massive male broke into my backyard last summer and tried getting through my dog door into my house) and anyways I’d like to install Hotwire to make a barrier out front. Our police and humane society won’t do anything about it regardless the dogs get out multiple times a week and sometimes multiple times a day so it’s stressful letting my dogs out which are on leash and in control because I can’t guarantee their safety. My male is pretty big but these pits look like they’re on steroids
You skipped over how you connected the handle by your gate(s) and I wish you'dve shown a bit better the completed project. I have a small tree leaning on my existing fence, I suppose I need to perhaps "ratchet it" back and stake it away from the fence so it's not touching. But I don't understand how the handle gets wired so I'm off to find a different video that covers that in more detail. Thanks for the information !

In all seriousness, I had a patient that accidentally made contact at a gate that she didn't know was charged (was for cows and horses, so likely a stronger system). In her case, worst case scenario, the charge went from left hand through her chest and out the right hand. Threw her heart into permanent A-Fib, bad enough that she eventually needed a pacemaker. Be careful out there folks.
We have a massive gsd/Pyrenees mix who absolutely tears our chainlink fences and gates to pieces. Looks like this is what we're going to have to do to keep him in 🥴
My daughters three shepherds never bothered her chickens. You pay attention to your pups and would discipline them if they got to rough with the animals.
@@gerardogonzales6584 Yes it does require moisture so sometimes you have to have more than one ground.In rocky dry areas you can connect the ground wire to the welded wire of a fence and that will improve the ground

When you run wire to end of fence away from house , is that where it stops and how do you wrap it there?
Just wrap it around the last insulator , it's all gonna be hot. Buy a cheap tester to make sure it's working

I just use electric fence wire from Tractor supply and the rod, the longer the better

Electric fence about $80 in all. Chain link $ 3700. Worth every penny. We bought the rubber coated fence

I bought it all at tractor supply. The charger unit is only like 30$ a role of wire not much more. The clips I think were like 10 $ a bag I used 2 bags. It absolutely works. My dogs don't go near the fence anymore

Thank you oh go or your reply! I’ve have went round and round with this fence! I have one ground wire/rod. Do I need 2? I have doubled checked everything. I made sure the ground rod was drove deep into the ground as well.
I did notice with your hot wire and ground wire that the hot wire ran off to the right and the ground wire straight out. Because of where my electric source is my ground wire runs straight out from the amp box and the hot wire runs to the left and right behind the ground wire. They don’t touch but would that make a difference?
Not sure what you're telling me but tge ground with should be connected to a long ground rid hammered into the ground

Drill some holes in the corners and wire it that way. It’d be more stable and look better. Loved this btw, I have to check my city code but I keep getting a neighbors massive pit bulls in my front yard that have been aggressive toward myself and worse my dogs, basically the owner lets his dogs out anytime regardless they’ve caused problems for myself and neighbors (their massive male broke into my backyard last summer and tried getting through my dog door into my house) and anyways I’d like to install Hotwire to make a barrier out front. Our police and humane society won’t do anything about it regardless the dogs get out multiple times a week and sometimes multiple times a day so it’s stressful letting my dogs out which are on leash and in control because I can’t guarantee their safety. My male is pretty big but these pits look like they’re on steroids

You skipped over how you connected the handle by your gate(s) and I wish you'dve shown a bit better the completed project. I have a small tree leaning on my existing fence, I suppose I need to perhaps "ratchet it" back and stake it away from the fence so it's not touching. But I don't understand how the handle gets wired so I'm off to find a different video that covers that in more detail. Thanks for the information !

LOL We all know you were cracking a joke there. In all seriousness, I had a patient that accidentally made contact at a gate that she didn't know was charged (was for cows and horses, so likely a stronger system). In her case, worst case scenario, the charge went from left hand through her chest and out the right hand. Threw her heart into permanent A-Fib, bad enough that she eventually needed a pacemaker. Be careful out there folks.

@@gerardogonzales6584 Yes it does require moisture so sometimes you have to have more than one ground.In rocky dry areas you can connect the ground wire to the welded wire of a fence and that will improve the ground
