I really miss upper deck, they did really nice high end memorabilia. I knew when they lost their license that they had all sorts of leftover jersey pieces, those 2009 upper deck sets was absolutely loaded with 4-6-8 person jersey cards, all game used, and on most of those if a player's jersey isn't from the team that he's pictured in, (like if it was an old picture or old jersey piece), the back will read "...used in a game as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers" for example. Nowdays, pull a russell westbrook napkin white jersey and see if you have any idea what team it was from, and unlike upper deck - you can't just assume it's from what the player is wearing in the photo on the card. Also, the warm-up material used to be labeled warm up, and now you see warm up jacket patches, and on the back it says "game used" ... and to me, that's misleading, because said player did not wear that material in a game, the player wore the material on the sidelines during time outs, that material is not "game used" to me.
I get what you’re saying but they have also packed it in quite a bit with Panini no longer making hockey since 2014. It’s a literally monopoly now and they can charge what they want. They have a lot of “the enclosed material has been worn by the featured player” so they can literally be worn for a few minutes at an off ice event and be cut up and put in cards. Not quite as egregious as what Panini seems to be doing but I think the whole industry has gotten beyond greedy including Upper Deck.
I also know that when Panini says a card says “game used” it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s from that specific player, could have been from some random player on the bench. Upper Deck used to specifically say “Game Worn by (the exact player on the front of the card)”
I have been saying on my Live Feed for 15 years that these companies could technically have the players put on 10 jerseys at 1 time and play a game of chess. Then take all 10 Jerseys and call them "Game Used". They didn't say it was a football/basketball/baseball game that it is from, just a "Game". And the fact is they wouldn't be lying.
The exact same issue popped up in 2018 with a Tony Romo & Dak Prescott card. The collector had a package left out in the rain and then decided to tear open the damaged cards. There is a thread on Blowout about it. It got good coverage in the hobby at the time. Fun to see the covid crowd still discovering things that happened before they got into the hobby.
it just popped up on social media a couple of years ago with a Tyreek Hill jersey card with a piece in it from a different player. I think it was even posted on the same Sports Card Nonsense page as this. lol

Once Panini switched to "not from any specific game or event" I assumed that meant they were jerseys bought from Fanatics or something, that were immediately cut up and thrown in there. I never thought it was extra patches they had laying around that had been worn by some other player. So this is technically better than my original expectations!
As my dad used to always say about "stuff" like this..... "We have met the enemy, and he is us". Then, he'd take a sip of his beer, shake his head, and sigh while mumbling "frickin dummies" or something to that effect. 😆
That's why I've never collected or paid for an RPA or memorabilia card. Who's to say a mickey mantle bat relic isn't some chopped up lumber from home depot? Relics and memorabilia cards have no place in my collection. I remember when topps put chair pieces from Yankee stadium as game used relics, this stuff has been a joke for a long time now.
Wait this is better than I was expecting, I thought they were just taking napkins from Dennys and sticking them on cards. I’m pretty sure Panini will move on from napkins to toilet paper.
@@ricknelson2214 I just feel like the old school way of collecting signed jerseys and going for hard signed autos was the way to do it. The early 2000s patches were awesome and legitimate but they morphed into a big scam?
To prevent this, Panini should have used a blank sticker on the piece of fabric. Fanatics will be doing the same. They sell jerseys, just use scraps that are left over to save money.

This is exactly why I’ve never understood the hype on NT if it’s not a legit patch of the player. NT would be an auto card then, period. Stop treating these “RPAs” as something special compared to any other rookie auto card.
There's a video I cant find of Upper Deck handing McDavid jersey after jersey to wear for 60 seconds then swap off to the next one during his rookie media tour. I've always thought everyone knew that was the case if it doesn't say "game used".
This same issue floated around social media a couple of years ago when someone posted ripping open a Tyreek Hill jersey card to discover a napkin belonging to a player no longer with the Dolphins. Either people forget or newbs coming into the hobby.
People have every right to express what they think about what s happen. That’s is a big problem we have ppl love to stick up to these company that don’t give a shit about you. The patch should be at least be worn from the player on the card not some other player.
Its dirty business tactics plain and simple. You notice how much smaller the print is compared to all the the wording stating that this relic does not come from any specific event is?
I disagree that the wording on the proviso on the back means it's not the player on the card. A reasonable person would believe that the person on the card is the person who touched the fabric. I do agree that player worn doesn't mean game worn.
Legally a good lawyer could win a lawsuit against under the statute of deceptive advertising. It would be up to the judge and his/her interpretation as to whether the company would be found guilty or not.
The problem are with the Topps and Panini cards that say "game used" that have another players jersey in it. Which cards really are game used or player worn? These companies already have a history of using fake memorabilia in cards
IMO "not from any specific game or event" still implies that the jersey would be from that player. It doesn't mean that they ever wore the jersey, but that it was a jersey that was supposed to be used for something at some time, by that specific player.
Panini is so bad. Took 4 years to get a redemption from them. They are terrible in every way. I think Topps does a better job with relics. But you have to be careful. Very best is the ones with the holograms that tell you exactly which baseball game a jersey swatch came from.
Why are people just figuring this out now? This has been going on ever since they started making jersey cards, over 25 years ago. It clearly states player worn but it does not say what player. If it says this is a game used jersey worn by then you know it is that player
Because of things like this, I’ve WHOLEHEARTEDLY changed my collecting strategy. I’m still buying ultra modern, but only low numbered on-card HOF and future HOF autos from high end brands. Anything SYNTHETIC from these companies - can’t trust it at all.

Keep up with the negativity when it comes to sports cards! That's ok because the sports card hobby is gonna end very soon. #theendisnear
i miss the days when u could buy a pack for a buck and still get good cards. And I'm sick of this retail or hobby or blaster or hanger pack that u got to buy if u want a card
I feel like you made this same video from a few years with tyreek just on repeat now. Do we know if Topps Dynasty actually uses jerseys worn by the player pictured on the card? I understand it’s game worn, but by who?
Where’s the triple logo man when you need it
Legally nothing wrong with it but isn’t it implied that the player on the card wore the jersey, even if it was to take a nap on a plane?
Maybe? but implied and legally not are the same thing.
@ Correct, hence why I said legally it’s fine. But misleading and shady regardless.
Lawsuit pending
No its actually not. Panini would win before it even got to court.
@ you’re the one who doesn’t know how to read. The problem is using other players jerseys, not if it’s game worn or not. Also, talking Panini’s side in this is laughable. Btw, I don’t even collect modern
This reminds me of a girl I dated in college, apologies story for another day. .
