- Hello everyone and welcome to another Ryzen 4000 laptop review. Today, I have an HP Pavilion 15 Gaming Laptop (15-ec1008ca) with the Ryzen 5 4600H (6 core/ 12 thread) and an Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics card.
How does it perform? Does it do better than laptops with weaker CPUs but better graphics cards? (Such as the GTX 1650)

This thing is amazing after this review I decided to get one the best part is that my microcenter had a 516 gb SSD model and a 1650 graphics card with 8 gigs of ram and 6 cores and it was on sale for only 600! I'm not a big computer guy and this is my first actual computer but it seems like a great and in my case extremely affordable computer to start with ( I had a cheaper laptop but that ran just gmod at 25 fps so I didn't use it much)

it would be nice if you use easier to read texts for the comparison charts. for example the CPU on the top line, followed by GPU on line below CPU, followed by laptop name. as for the number reading, you could've put it on the chart itself.

@@alkeshkataria9760 oh hey, sure. The display is already 144hz and the srgb should be 100%. Tried gaming Watch Dogs 2, Far Cry 5 and Dying Light the CPU temp peak at 70c. The cooling system is good for me. Hope its help!
I checked the other variant with rtx2060, but the display is pretty bad. Low srgb level, so the ec1016ax has better display

I see this laptop now ships with the Ryzen 4600H and the GTX1650 4GB. Maybe HP took the hint about paring the 4600H with such a low-end 1050 by 2020's standards.

I've just ordered the model with the 1650 instead, it seems like a good all rounder. I like the fact the ram is fully upgradeable. I've noticed a lot of the new Ryzen laptops have soldered ram or limited options for upgrades.👍

the ryzen 5 version was on sale for $449.99 and there's nothing that can beat that, in terms of performance for price.

Managed to get one from AO.com yesterday.
It suits me for what I’m using it for. I only really want to play RTS games on it and web browsing and home use - and I’m mainly using it plugged in I’m not looking to play on the go.

I got the Ryzen 5 4600H - GTX1650 144Hz one with 16gb since it was for sale and the the best laptop for the price. I'm a student who's been using a toaster the entire time and it broke recently so I'm really excited to have something on which I can play some lighter games soon.

@@amrudinavdic9925 it has awesome battery life. Under normal tasks, word processor, web browsing, coding, 9 - 10 hours. If you're watching videos and gaming, that time will be significantly reduced.

I got the i5 gtx 1660ti 16" 144hrtz screen happy with it.
HP is all over the place with screens and gpu variation. Somtimes they sell similar models with TN panels sometimes they sell with IPS panels.
I got mine for $450 on a Black Friday (with the gtx 1650). Added 8gb of DDR 3200mhz ram and this machine is beyond my wildest and frugal dreams, minus the screen (it stinks but I'm willing to accept that).
I'm currently working on a video about that one. (I got one for myself too as it was a great deal) Honestly it's been a while since I used the HP, but the screen on the Best Buy deal really isn't great. Otherwise great computer though, hope you like it.

Here I have Few doubts, I’m Planning to use the laptop for Photoshop and Premiere Pro and was ok with specs but i read many articles saying this model has very low NITS 250 and SRGB, Adobe RGB Values which results in worst colour accuracy i checked with many review, articles, videos. So how do i know the exact value of adobe rgb and srgb values (official information or someother sources). I’m a Graphic designer (not fully doing partime) all the laptops with higher value is above 1 Lac in indian value. This laptop is priced at 68,000 INR. So is there a major issue with color accuracy?

Officially the only figure I could find is the 45% NTSC. That's not great, and definitely not good enough for professional editing. You can either find those values directly on the manufacturer's page, or you could somehow find the panel model and google that.
That's what I did in one of my videos (the Asus TUF one) but this one wouldn't tell me the panel model in Windows, and the only way for me to find out was to disassemble the whole computer and find out the model on the panel itself. I didn't have enough time to do that, sorry.

I have had this laptop. 512ssd 16gb ram. This laptop is my first laptop with the best screen resolution 144Hz. I recommend this computer for gamers and office users too. And English video about this laptop is super helpful for new buyers who do not know which model to buy . Thank you for this video 👍

you keep saying the GPU is a bottleneck, but 3gb gtx 1050's overclock well, mine hits 2ghz core under load and memory is running at 4.5ghz (9ghz effective), ya stock these things are worse then 1050ti, but overclocked they perform VERY close to a stock gtx 1650
I have the 15-ec1008na which has the 1650ti which is enough for the gaming I want to do on the road! Mine doesn't support USB-C charging either, BUT it also doesn't support 2nd monitor support via USB-C! I use a USB-C hub at work and that's a real shame. Thanks for the great video. I agree with everything you've mentioned for my model, too (except the GPU bit of course).
as a person with light mobile editing workload and a casual gamer, i find the 1050 version quite compelling. i hope the price will be more suitable...

Not sure if your camera is too high that it forces you to tilt your head upwards a bit. I'd recommend that you find a more comfortable position for yourself and then adjusting the camera height after.
I have seen a pavilion with a 1650 in my area, I plan on getting it in the next year

For $450 it is a fantastic deal. The biggest problem of the laptop I tested was the GPU, and they fixed it.

1) Could you please put absolute values at the top of benchmark plots? It took me a long while to notice you were putting the numbers below, it would be a lot easier to see and it would leave more room for the descriptions.
2) Could you consider running Blender as part of your benchmark suite? It's particularly useful for GPU-intensive productivity. You can automate the whole process using the tool at opendata.blender.org/

Great video. I have owned this laptop now for the past 2 months. Its a great laptop imo! Is there any way to unlock the bios? Ive searched forums for unlocked bios to no avail. This laptop would greatly benefit with a bios mod/unlocked bios.

I already own the laptop with the 4800h/1660ti but I'm trying to figure out the best way to adapt it into a proper home setup.
I'll basically need 1 monitor connected for general usage, and another one as my drawing screen. Issue being the laptop only has one hdmi port and I'm not sure what my best bet is to hook up the second monitor. Currently looking at a USB C hub(very handy connections including HDMI) but I think they rely on the AltMode

It's available on hp's website I think It gives a link to crucial ram tho I heard if you bought the gaming one if fucks up a bit because of different voltage and also I think you will need to access to the bios settings to reenable xmp
*bios is locked tho so beware with the xmp

Hey, here's a question, would it be worth it getting the Ryzen 5 4600h with the 1650?
I just bought it for $674 through Walmart's website. I thought that was a great price for the specs. I am swapping the RAM out for 16GB @ 3200mhz for $75 and adding a 500GB Sata SSD for like $45 so for $794 ($50 over amazons listing) I feel like I am getting a good deal. I would keep your eye out for a deal like that. Good luck have fun!

Usb 2.0 is necessary for many purposes. Not all accessories and especially android fastboot drivers doesn't work well with 3.0 ports
So, Cyberport in germany offers this laptop with the same CPU but the GTX 1650 for just 699€. (Without OS)

at 9:23 time , i can see 7.4gb of RAM is available at OS level. I presume this model has 8gb in total. So only 512mb has been taken as dedicated VRAM for iGpu. In my HP Pavilion gaming laptop (though, its 3550H cpu) 2gb of system ram is dedicated VRAM and no option to change it even in BIOS. Any thoughts on saving up that ram for my productivity related tasks?

Depends on what else you can get for $750. The 4600H-1650Ti combo is very good, but I don’t know what else $750 gets you.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend a cooling fan; but you might want a laptop stand!

@@alexiacyr7203 It runs well with sims 4 and the packs. Watch your mods/CC though because 256GB SSD is small. I think if you are handy enough and know a lot about computers you can upgrade the SSD from what I have heard.

Thanks for the review. But one question, does this laptop dedicate 2gb of ram to the igpu permanently? I looking at some reviews online and people are claiming that only 6gb of the ram is usable by the cpu and that there is no way to change that, is this true? Also some people claimed that hp locked the bios, is this true as well?

It doesn't permanently use 2 gigabytes of RAM for the graphics unit. From what I understood, it can use up to 2 gigabytes.
I have seen both Premiere Pro and AIDA64 use around 7 gigabytes of RAM.

what's a different between M.2 and 2.5 inch SSD in generaly?
Both M.2 and 2.5 inch refer to sizes, but the difference is bigger if the M.2 slot uses the NVM.e standard. (Which it does, in this case)
2.5 inch SSDs use the SATA interface, which is significantly slower than the NVM.e interface.

Have you tried installing windows 10 uefi from USB 3.0? Hp laptops are known to not recognize USB 3.0 boot flash drive from bios startup. So that is the point of having USB 2.0 - hp backup plan :)

I got this laptop model last Christmas, the version with the Ryzen 5 3550H, 8GB RAM, GTX 1050, and 256GB SSD. It works well for my needs, I can play most games on medium settings at around 20-50 fps depending in what game it is, and it doesn't give me too much trouble. I had to install a Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD in it for extra space though. In its stock settings, I give it a 6/10 because it gets the job done, but it could be better. Overall, I love my laptop, and I think it is a solid laptop for school work and some gaming. The battery life sucks on it, but I have it plugged in at home 99% of the time so it isn't an issue for me. I am thinking about upgrading the RAM because it is a bit of an issue, so I might do that later.
How was the install of the hard drive?
Or is that an external hard drive

Yeah hp pavilion has exact specs 40 dollars extra but for the better airflow it is worth it
I'm assuming you don't need a USB 3.0 for a mouse.. I'm also assuming it costs a few more bucks for a USB 3.0.
How is the cooling mechanism of this laptop ( as both the gpu and cpu cooler are in the middle, which is different from that of other laptops)
It doesn't thermal throttle unless both the CPU and the GPU are being utilized 100%.

Please check it does not have a B&O speaker as mentioned by you. It just uses B&O software.
