I’ve always thought if you believe life begins at the moment of conception then abortion and IVF are one and the same. The ends can’t justify the means. IVF is all about maximizing your chances at pregnancy, it becomes a numbers game. Realistically it wouldn’t be safe to transfer all embryos harvested as it’s not safe for the mother or babies and no one would want to spend so much resources, time, money, emotions on ones that are know to not be viable. For this reason and despite our own fertility issues, IVF is not an option for us. I understand the desperation of wanting to have a baby. Even adoption and fostering to adopt is outrageously expensive and filled with endless hoops.

I've had a hysterectomy and I decided long ago not to have kids, but some women are absolutely devastated when they suffer from a condition that steals away their ability to have children. I mean, it may not be necessary to see, but we still perform cataract surgeries on people who have lost the ability to see because of cataracts. It may not be necessary to walk, but we still perform knee replacements. I'm not sure why women who have been robbed of their ability to bear children should not benefit from medical breakthroughs that treat those underlying conditions to restore fertility. Folks with other conditions get to have their ailments treated. If you want your cataracts and knee replacements to be covered, then it's only fair to cover women's fertility treatments, too.

Being pro-life, even I disagree with the IVF ruling. Seriously, what the heck are they thinking. If the freeze 20 fertilized eggs and winding up only needing one, what do they think is going to happen to the other 19? Are there enough families who want children to volunteer to take the unused but viable eggs. It becomes a logistical nightmare. If ANYONE was going to take a stance for the unborn, this was a horrible place to take that stand. Clearly a case of people with goodness in their heart making DUMB decisions.

I am a technology librarian and I think we desperately need to vote in not only a younger generation of lawmakers, but, also, a more tech savvy group of lawmakers who can understand tech trends well enough to regulate them and to make that a priority. The last major leaps practically destroyed the concept of privacy and drastically altered the economic landscape, leading to the rise of the gig economy and the complete depersonalization of the hiring process. AI will make the changes wrought by the internet, smartphones, and social media look quaint by comparison. Industry insiders are sounding the alarm bells with regard to AI, but our lawmakers have no idea how to put up guardrails at all, let alone which ones to place.

Parents should start doing the JOB of parenting and NOT buy their "precious little angels" massively expansive tech in the first place. Do your debates to properly state and sell one's self to convince the American public they are the best man for the job. Do not steal votes. Do the job and earn votes. Can see this law making manipulation happen. Being forced to adopt the severely handicapped children abandoned by their living parents who do not have proper income or government sources and assistance to take care of these innocent kids. The IVF population has money to get these embryos created and cyro frozen in pots so to keep the money in the family through DNA. About same as historically and current wealthy royal societies. No soc security or pensions, insurance policies. Many countries married in the family but congenital defects occured. Then the took the 12-14 year old girls and arranged marriages to anywhere from a few years older to way much older. Must have been frightening to be matched off in the name of marriage to produce a DNA heir with both sets of grandparents rolling in the money hay of the arrangement and a baby heir is produced only to keep the money in the family. This is just my humble opinion.
That would be changing course and would be paying even more money. All that money spent on IVF will be wasted.
