Fun fact: A few years back, in response to North Korea's nuclear testing, the South Korean government used loud speakers to blast Bang, Bang, Bang across the DMZ so that North Koreans could hear it. It was broadcast along with other popular music and propaganda messages.
big bang was the first group that got me into kpop about 10 years ago. they’ve been on hiatus for a few years due to their mandatory military service (and some other things we won’t talk about lol), but they’re finally coming back!! super excited

They have had such a great influence that even us 2000s are VIPs!
Kpop still has this image of music for teenage girls not only internationaly but in Korea too but there is more to that . BigBang were the first to prove idols can be more than puppets of the company , more than a pretty face that dance and sing the songs the company gave them . BigBang proved idols can be artists , they can make their own music . The group has a great versatility in their songs and all members have a solo career too . The first one to win an international award MTV Europe in 2011. They were the first to also have a large global tour . They only came in Europe in 2012 with 2 concerts in London. GDragon had I think 5 stops in Europe during his solo world tour in 2016.
They are the Kings of KPOP. And they will have a comeback this year

BigBang are the Kings of KPop, the blueprint that every group who came after followed and one of the three most active OG groups of Kpop, including SHINEE and Epik High. In fact, they are having a comeback after 4 years of absence (military duty, perfection takes time, etc.) this month!!
Taeyang, the first guy, is the R&B singer and dance king. He hates shirts and is one of the few KPop artists that is married (and just had a baby!) and still active. His song Eyes, Nose, Lips is the standard love song of KPop. There's a saying that you can't call yourself a KPop fan until you've learned the words to it.
T.O.P is the rapper in the cowboy hat, aka The Original Pimp, and is the artistic weirdo genius low-voiced visual of the group. His first completely solo album is coming out soon, and when he isn't rapping or curating art collections, he is also one of the best actors in Korea. His masterpiece is Doom Dada.
Seungri, the white-haired vocalist is no longer with the group due to an insane scandal. Nuff said.
Daesung is the rock vocalist whose eyes you couldn't see. He has had a lot of internet hate about his looks and a tragedy that he went through, and that was part of the reason for that hairstyle. He also has a TH-cam channel D'splay, where he shows off his drum skills. He is huge in Japan and has insane vocals! His TROT song Look at Me, Gwisun was written by GDragon in the spur of the moment and is a standard of the genre. Baby Don't Cry though is my fave of his!
Finally, GDragon, the "anime villain", is the King of Kpop in the way that Michael Jackson is the King of Pop. He's done so many collaborations with Western artists because everyone in the industry knows about him. He started at 3 years old and is now considered to be the idol of all the idols. He wrote almost all of the BigBang songs and at one point had the most copywrites in KPop. He is a fashion icon, genius rapper, clothing designer, music producer, artist, dancer, and just generally the coolest person in the world. His song One of a Kind encapsulates him perfectly! But he has so many hits and standards it's impossible to list them all without writing an essay.

@@yo-mi3fk Everyone had fan clubs, that's true, since the very beginning. But they were created and managed by the fans themselves, and a lot of them gave themselves their names. They were not officially founded by the groups, or given names until later. For example, BoA always had a fan club, but the name "Jumping BoA" was established in 2011. The only name I could find that existed prior to VIP was Cassiopeia, founded in 2003. It's minor distinction, though. The ones that came before were still very organized and devoted. There was bright colored hair, but it was all shades of red/yellow/white from bleaching. There were no unusual colors like blue, green, pink, etc. until Fantastic Baby. I went through tons of old MV's and photos trying to find blue or green hair from before that MV and could not find anything. I'm excited to hear the Seo Taiji song! Thank you for that correction.

BigBang are legends when It comes to kpop as almost all the kpop groups you see now got inspired by them (even BTS said in an interview that it was them they look upto and inspired them) alao my boas is GDragon where as TOP is my bias wrecker.
GDragon is also one of my all time style icons along with JHope.

Big Bang was one of the groups that got me into kpop in 2009. Their song Haru Haru is still one of my all time top 5 songs and G-Dragon is still one of my favourite people ever. I'm so freaking excited for their comeback! They are the kings for a reason. Thanks for checking them out and loving them, I have been enjoying your Stray Kids reactions so this was a nice surprise!

I can't wait for you to discover more kpop artists hehehe I haven't seen someone discovering Big Bang in a very long time, but yeah, they are one of the legendary groups - they've been around since 2006 and they still are, they are coming back with a new album soon, after a couple of years of hiatus (they had to go to the military). Bang Bang Bang was a good introduction since it is one of their most known hits.
bang bang bang is probably the best introduction to bigbang there is, their other biggest song is fantastic baby, but my personal favs are Sober and Let's Not Fall in Love

Big Bang are legends. You found them at the right time as they will be having a comeback soon. I'm not sure if anyone has explained to you that there are 4 generations for KPOP (so far) and Big Bang is 2nd generation (BTS is 3rd and Stray Kids are 4rth). I don't think I ever go a day without listening to at least one Big Bang song. Oh yea, there usually aren't English captions for older KPOP MVs.

They are the big brothers of Blackpink ( we consider siblings the groups from same company so basically they are from same company which is yg ent.)
They all have solo careers too. Specially GD ( G Dragon- the one with red hair in this video). So, you should check them as soloists too. For GD, please react to coup d'etat mv ( Honestly not in kpop nor in any other music I saw or listen something like that and I would really like to see your reaction to it)

Thank you so much for reacting to Big Bang they are my 2nd love of k-pop. I understand how you feel at 57 I only found k-pop 1 1/2 years ago with stray kids. It is mind blowing. Big Bang are iconic figures in k-pop and there is not an Asian person who doesn't know who g-dragon is or big bang. Sadly there last released song was in 2017 or 2016. They say they will be coming back but so far as it seems one of the members Seungri (blond hair sand boy) got into trouble and had to retire from Big Bang and the deep voice rapper TOP has not resigned his contract with YG entertainment, so that only leaves 3 out of the 5 members to do a comeback (G-Dragon red hair, Taeyang first singer on tank, Daeusan hair covering eyes). G-Dragon is another one of those idols that has trained for 7 years since the age of 13years old but he was also the youngest kids to be in a group at the age of 6 years old. The group lasted only a year with 1 song. It wasn't till he was 13 that he started training again. He is a creative genius. Writing many of Big Bangs songs and songs for other idols as well. They have some of the best dance hype songs but they also have amazing vocals. Love to see you react to more Big Bang and G-Dragons solos. Since they are older m/v none of their m/v's have subtitles. Fantastic Baby m/v and A bad boy (big bang), MichiGo m/v (g-dragon solo) A boy m/v (g-dragon), Crayon m/v(g-dragon), A good boy (G-dragon & Taeyang).

Big Bang is a league of its own. Definitely not cookie cutter. There's hardly any male K-pop group that can get away with performing shirtless, dancing intimately with girls, and with very little choreography.

My first time with Big Bang too, astonishing! A completely different vibe, my go-to band for daily soundtrack, is LUCY. They are pretty new, runner-up to Hoppipolla on "Superband" and have been recording a couple of years. They bring a genuine cool hipness to what I call "epic disco pop", although that still doesn't cover their range. There is a sweetness and directness in everything they do, that never fails to lift me up. 4 member band, guitar, 6-string bass, drums and VIOLIN. I promise you will not be disappointed. Check out "Flowering", "Snooze", Straight Line", "Hero", "Flare" and "Stove".

Since you seem okay with falling head first into the Kpop rabbit hole, you should check out these groups as well! Some are in the newer Kpop generation while others are older generations, but each one is amazing. You have only reached the tip of the iceberg, and I cannot wait to see your reactions! I've always known about kpop but never really listened to it but for the past 6 years or so - pretty much from when I first read an interview with BTS - that's all I listen to, with an occasional foray into other world music, I find western music could learn a lot from kpop, it's so inventive and creative, as well as great vocals the choreography is outstanding! Did you know that "kpop" also has rock bands? Unfortunately, they don't get the attention that the pop groups do, but they're well worth checking out. F.T. Island, CNBlue, The Rose, Day6, and Hyukoh to name just a few. F.T. Island is my favorite. Their main vocalist, Lee Hong Gi, has one of the most unique and recognizable voices in the industry.

Watching the evolution of them is insane. They started out as the cookie cutter kpop boy group and then morphed into a power house of unspeakable talent. They are true performers. Yeah they can/could dance like the other groups but they rather perform and have fun on stage. They have literally paved the way for so many other groups and artists. G Dragon has left a never ending mark on the industry because of his musicality and lyric writing.
