When this was shown on the Tube in the UK it was my introduction to Tom. Bought Swordfishtrombones then had to go backwards and couldn't believe how great the music was. And then he did Raindogs which is probably my favourite. And at that time I was listening to The Smiths, The Jesus And Mary Chain and the Pogues so it's safe to say he broadened my musical taste forever..
One of the best videos ever made? Well certainly one of the best. This compliments Tom's voice perfectly. Sometimes a song and singer just clicks. This is simply one of the best. Shame about the quality but thanks for uploading.

Except this ISN'T the quality of the original film. This is a recording off a tv pushed through the mincer of 2012-era youtube compression. There will have been a hi-res version of the original film somewhere, and that's the version the filmmakers would prefer we saw. It may have been subsequently lost, or perhaps there's no interest from Tom/Island in putting it out there, but to say this compromised, heavily compressed version of the video is the one the artist/s intended for us to see is just not correct.
This is how I remember it in 1983. Forty years on, I'm still listening.

Hard to get into the voice but I have always loved this song and video since seeing it on tv on The Tube I think.Haunting with lovely lyrics.
