I'm loving the lighting for this video! These were wonderful recommendations - I've got Davis and Lorde on my own TBR, obviously. But I've been introduced to Fearing the Black Body and Minor Feelings. Thanks!

You should definitely host a Re-Readathon!
I have read/plan to read several of these already, but there are a few new ones I hadn't heard of that I'll be adding to my TBR. Thanks for the recs!

Thank you for the recommendations! Also, a re-readathon sounds great. I need a good reason to re-read books when there's so many others out there I still haven't gotten to. -Becks

Thank you so much for these resources and your perspective.
I’ve just about finished reading ‘White Women: Everything You Already Know About Your Own Racism and How to Do Better’
Book by Regina Jackson and Saira Rao which I learned about after watching the must-see documentary about their work called Race2Dinner.
In the book they also mention ‘So you want to talk about race’ by Ijeoma Oluo.

This is a fantastic recommendations video - will be saving it for future reference! Also, I 100% agree with your Little Fires Everywhere rec - its brilliant, and really shows how important it is to empathise and stop before you judge

Thanks for sharing and commenting on your frustrations with the Reading Rush. I didn't really watch videos for it but that seems like a super valid critique and one that I hope they will see, reflect on, and learn from. Thanks for making this video, I've added it to my reference list.
I currently have a hold on the audiobook for Little Fires Everywhere and the rest of these things sound great too. This is the second reference I'm seeing to Minor Feelings and it sounds particularly interesting. I like books with a lot of nuance so I'll have to look into that along with these others over time.

I've read Sister Outsider and Minor Feelings, both of which were great. My book club is reading The Vanishing Half in August, and I am looking forward to that one. Thanks for the other recommendations!

Your recommendations are always so good! Fearing the Black Body sounds so interesting, and I think I will finally pick up Little Fires Everywhere. I ordered Such a Fun Age after the liveshow mess, I am just waiting for it to arrive but I've heard so many good things.
    Yes to the re-readathon!

I would like white women (I'm one of them) to read "Why I'm no longer talking to white people about race" by Reni Eddo-Lodge, it really opened my eyes and helped me pay attention to things I wasn't looking at.

White women should read "Black Men Down" on Amazon for 2.99! Type in ebook after the title.

Good recommendations. I’m hoping to build my reading list further. Such a Fun Age was such a good read. As a white woman I feel like books that make me feel uncomfortable with other white women’s actions are important as it allows us to examine our own experience and question our behaviours. As an almost 40 year old I can’t stand the white saviour mentality it’s the worst. I hope that I never display this and if I do anything wrong I ask my friends to please point this out as I just want to learn how to be better without being preformative. 💜💜💜💜

The level of self-content I felt when I realized that I read most of these books is quite worrying.. 🙃 But I put the rest on my list! I really need to get around "Little Fires Everywhere" - I think it was advertised in Poland as a "thrilling chic lit" and that ain't it... I wouldn't have known it analyzes white womanhood to a such degree, Polish publishers have some work to do. And I would maybe add to your list bell hooks's "Feminist Theory. From Margin to Center" - I remember being a teen and starting my feminist.. education, and reading this book after Betty Friedan's "The Feminine Mystique" was definitely an experience. At this point I think we should actually skip works of people like Friedan and immediately get to as inclusive discourse as possible (unless we want to critique white feminism, then I'm all for it!).

thank you for not putting your own neck out for white women. model minority is such a huge deal to so many of us in the asian community and waaaay too many of us are willing to throw black women under the bus in order to feel like we gained a leg up in the white world. so bless you for being one of the good ones and using your platform right 💖🙏 also i hope it's okay that i add you on goodreads 😊 if you have the energy to run a readathan DOOOO ET.

Wow I heard about the Reading Rush thing but I didn't know about the IRONY behind the book and the what happened with the white hosts I'm------that's horrible and just- no words. I just finished Captive Genders and am tryinggg to start The Communist Manifesto but I'm hesitating cause I tried starting it months ago but I had to google 5 words per page and I got overwhelmed (I know being overwhelmed with googling words is pathetic but if it helps this was also during my last semester of college so I had no time/motivation); but thanks to having to stay at home and having more time, it'll be easier (I hope, lol).
I would also def recommend Women Race & Class to white women. We need to stop having that photo circulate every election of all of the white women's "I voted" stickers on Susan B Anthony's tombstone

    • @asunnybooknook
      @asunnybooknook  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

yeah the irony is !!!!! im starting to read captive genders as well :) once you've tackled the communist manifesto it should be easier to get through other theory!! women race and class is def essential reading. people who stan Susan B. Anthony like.... is it worms in the brain...

Me and white supremacy is another really wonderful book for them to read. It's a book designed to challenge them and make them confront who they are. I believe it even has a workbook.
These are amazing suggests. I've read a lot them.
