    What made Cash's version of Hurt so powerful and memorable that it makes multiple top ten lists is the undeniable fact he took the same song with the same lyrics and changed the complete meaning of the song. The original was about drug addiction and depression, but Cash's version was about a man, at the end of his life, looking at all he accomplished and realizing all his worldly possessions and achievements mean nothing. It's a song of regret and teaching at the end of a memorable life. It rips the soul. Everyone thought Cash was done, he was old and retired and no one expected him to come back and certainly not in such a huge way.

      i don´t know where you get that but it´s about love not returned ,the drugs were there but not in the words and johnny cash was in deep need of money when several not mainstream artists hepled him to returrn due to it´s importance in the music scene since the 50´s but forgotten and not just retired ,off course the first move to make him return to record music was when U2 wrotte a great song so he could sing at his own style and if you never notice that just listen to the words

    Hurt wasnt an 'welcome back'' it was a 'Farewell, old friend'

      And a powerful message of regrets in life...but in the end, it was a life lived to the fullest. And that video isn''t arguably ANYTHING. It is absolutely the most emotion-packed video ever made. I can't think of any other video that has had the impact it has had on most people.

    They're dead wrong on AC/DC. The band was pretty big through the 70's, and never missed a beat when Bon Scott died in 1980. Back in Black was a HUGE album. Probably their most memorable. For Those About to Rock in '81 was another huge album and commercial hit, the first to go number one in the charts. The next couple albums might not have been as big, but they were far from failures. They never stopped filling up coliseums.

    • @davidcleary9510
      @davidcleary9510 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Isnt-it-Lovely There is a lot more to it than that.
      The members came to Australia with their families when they were children. They completed most of their education here, including musical education. They all met here and this is where their band was created. Their music, style and tastes all formed here.
      More than that, they cut their teeth on the Sydney and Melbourne pub circuits. This further honed their sound and style and is how they gained their local following. They were signed by the Australian record label, J Albert and Sons, and their first album was originally only released in Australia.
      Now, look at another Australian band, The Easybeats. Malcolm and Angus Young's older brother, George, was a founding member. Of the five members of the band, two were born in England, one in Scotland and the other two were Dutch. Saying such a band is English, British or Dutch is clearly wrong as it basically leaves out the origins of the other members. The only way to describe them is as "Australian" because this is where they met, formed and stylised their band.

In my opinion that´s why i enjoy listening every CCR LP, they sound as a band playing anywhere ,clean sound no extra efects on studio recordings ,they sound plain and simple but with great songs, when younger i even thought some musics were covers but later i learned that the ones i thought were the originals were in reality the covers ,this shows how good were their songs, and still today john fogerty already old plays with his recent band the songs to a great level of perfection about not wanting to reunite CCR ,it´s a personal matter ,his brother is already gone so no CCR , Heart could have made a 80´s project under a new name and after playing as Heart ,it´s like a stain in their career .

      That's why June initially begged him not to release it. Johnny said he had to, he felt he must. He did the music video and had her in it. She's crying for real. She'd had a premonition that she'd go into the hospital and that's where she'd die. The night before her recording on the stairs, she found out she had to go back in for her health. She was terrified of what would happen to him with her gone. That's real fear in and of love in her eyes. She never left it, dying a few weeks later. Johnny then followed her several months after that, when the fears she had - that he couldn't go on with her - were realized.

    What about Tina Turner? When she divorced Ike, his lawyers pretty much destroyed her. She got nothing in the divorce settlement except debts to both her record label and the IRS. In the late 70s, she released three solo albums that all bombed. She was singing in small clubs for pennies and occasionally getting a guest appearance on the Sonny and Cher show. Her career was pretty much dead. Then she released Private Dancer.

    RHCP only an honorable mention? Really? After BSSM in 1991 and the departure of Frusciante, their next album, which is now considered a great underrated album and featuring Frusciante's replacement Dave Navarro, was not well received as it was a vast departure from that funk rock band that came to fruition earlier in the decade. Fast forward 4 years after One Hot Minute, they came roaring back, with a sober Frusciante and a completely new sound, with Californication which came to be their most successful album to date. Scartissue, Otherside, Californication and Around the World became staples of their new sound and direction and they've been the most recognizable and consistant rock act for the next 20 years after that. So, I say again, how is that an honorable mention? I agree that Cash should be #1 tho, but the Chili Peppers should have been at least in the top 3.

    We Belong Together is one of my favorite Mariah Carey songs, so beautiful. I had no idea that that awesome piano tune was the intro of an older rap song, wow. Get Lucky is great, and so catchy. Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams were a collab I didn't know I needed until I heard that song. I've heard many good (and sad) things about Tears in Heaven and Hurt, and now I know why. Walk This Way has such a powerful and fun chorus. You Rock My World is a lesser known but certainly wonderful song. Womanizer is super catchy and it does address an issue that degrades women.
    Lovely choices WatchMojo.

    AC/DC's comeback after Bon Scott's death was 1980's Back in Black album. Their best selling Album going multi platinum. So to say they were struggling commercially until 1990's Thunderstruck from the Razor's Edge album (that sold way less than Back in Black BTW) is just laughable and shows that watch mojo doesn't really do their research for these Top 10 lists. Anyone ever heard of a group named "The Bee Gees"? They came back big a couple of times with number 1 songs-"How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" and a little tune called "Jive Talkin' "!

    • @rodrigo445678
      @rodrigo445678 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were the biggest comeback in terms of number ones. After Jive Talkin, You Should Be Dancing.. And the rest is history. No band (other than the Beatles) has written more number ones....

      After years of not having a successful singles from the Glitter and Charmbracelet era in the U.S. Mariah Carey released TEOM in 2005 and becoming one of the most successful album in 2005 and becomes Mariah Carey most successful album since Daydream (1995). We Belong Together peaked at #1. Shake It Off peaked at #2 which was a shame cause We Belong Together was still at #1 that time and was blocking Shake it Off from becoming a #1 hit. Don't Forget About Us peaked at #1. The Album has won 3 grammys. The single 'We Belong Together' became the SONG OF THE DECADE giving her 2 song of the decade (One Sweet Day 90s and We Belong Together 00s)

    • @vonnielaurie
      @vonnielaurie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They should've put Carey on #1 cause TEOM is definitely a comeback album

    • @BillGraper
      @BillGraper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nicholas Sindlinger "I Gotta Feeling" should've been the #1 song of the decade. Part of its chart run went into 2010, and the decade ended after 2009. The Black eyed Peas were huge back then. They spent half a year straight at #1 with "Boom Boom Pow" (12 weeks) and "I Gotta Feeling" (14 weeks). They are one of a small handful of artists to knock themselves out of #1.

    Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt” showed the highlights of his career. He was an amazing musician, and this song showed it. I still listen to that song today. The emotion it portrays hits right at the heart. He is paying homage to his own career, which in of itself is impressive. I think that he deserves this top spot. When I need to cry, I listen to this
