As far as I know today is that the wild betta got breed by humans to be more aggressive and stronger apperiance. The main thing is this fish is originally from the imbellis family as you can tell by it's colors. After crossing bloodlines we have the plakat fighter fish. From there it gets coloured up for being supermodels of the bettafamily tree. And today you cannot really tell the difference between a real wild betta and a humanbred betta. I had about 15 Bettas in containers, some 25 years ago, started with those fancy veil tails. but they easily became sick, fungus, died real fast etc. Then I bought short finned once , the Plakat type fish. They didn't sell those in the aquaria/ pet shops in my country so I had to look for short finned Bettas between the females ( I think breeders and shop staff didn't know that there were short finned males between there female fry). Females back then were not that colourful as they are today and those Plakat types were not very colourful either. I didn't have these fish for their exotic fancy looks... Long story short; I once had a small male, brownish in colour with a hint of red, that I put in a tank with an adult male. They got along great. Until I put the small one ( now a young adult) in a tank with a 'green' coloured male. Well the small one started a fight..... Then put him back with his former "room mate" but he had 'tasted blood', so he was put in a seprate container. Well, he was a very smart little fighter, would go for the head mostly but changed it style depending on the opponent, bit chunks out of his opponents, would go for 2 hours and never had large injuries, won twelve fights, some of them going over the two hour mark. Named it "Teruhiko Kobayashi", after the Japanese WW2 pilot.....
Perlu informasi tambahan , mengapa di sebut cupang bagan !! Karena dulu tahun 80 an ada seseorang peternak bernama buemie tiong mengenalkan cupang aduan ini, waktu itu di kota bagansiapiapi-riau . Sebab saat itu orang belum mengenal cupang di indonesia. Maka lahirlah nama cupang bagan . Dimana saat itu induk cupang berasal dari ipoh dan diternakan di bagansiapiapi.
Tapi bos..di daerah Riau banyak sekali cupang alam jenis splenden yg memang body nya fighter sangat kental,, saya asli Medan tapi SDH dari tahun 2006 di daerah Riau,tepatnya kecamatan Mandau, di tahun 2008 gak sengaja saya jumpai anak-anak di tempat tinggal saya di Mandau sedang nyeser ikan adu,, saya kira itu cupang jenis padi kayak dari Medan(padi/wild betta Sumatra Utara) jadi belakangan saya curiga sama ikan jenis ini/wild splenden Riau ,, saya memesan cupang padi asal Medan, dan memang benar bentuk tubuhnya sangat jauh berbeda, bahkan SDH seperti Katong yg biasa dijual di tahun 90an di daerah saya dulu/kecamatan Galang,deliserdang. Sedangkan cupang padi bodynya memanjang dan pangkalnya jg tipis,, jauh tebal splenden Riau dah GT body gempal berotot pendek lagi ,,Jadi singkat cerita apakah mungkin cupang bagan adalah silangan genetik dari Ipoh Malaysia dan wild splenden dari Riau dan jadilah cupang bagan,? asli bos kalau ikan wild splenden dari Riau itu pukulannya berat,, kalau cupang padi yg sama-sama ORI nyeser dari rawa atau pesawahan bakalan meper/oleng, kemarin aku adu splenden Riau dgn padi medan alhasil padi medan kejang-kejang kaya patah pinggang,, gua kira mati jg itu ikan, ternyata tdk... Cuman...splenden ini ikannya gampang kagetan dan kalau SDH kalah susah banget ngembaliin mentalnya,, kalau padi yg kalah itu masih mau di kedok-kedokin,,😅😅😅😅 gimana nih ceritanya,,?

Nah pengakuan kalo ikan katong kabur ini sudah bercampur aduk dgn cupang alam....petarung bagan rata2 sdh tahu mslh ini tetapi tetap tidak tertarik krn yg diminati adalah cupang kekar....dan lbh senang beli ipoh dan thailand.
So Bagan fighters are line bred wild species, bred to be better fighters and not extensively line bred for colors, but for aggression and strength. They seem to be much healthier that your average domestic betta today, which is described in this video as supermodels.
bagan bettas are still somewhat bred heavily, but not as much as fancy bettas that are made to have flashy colors and fins. Bettas that are bred for fighting will be less genetically played with, since they're originally made for fighting, not for show. My indo plakat fighters lived for about 5years and a few months, with no tumors and dropsy, and some are still alive. Fighter bettas are really just tougher.

Nothing you commented is truth.. Malaysia Fighters are called Malay Fighters, Indo Fighters are all Fighters from Indonesia, they can be many bloodlines, Ipoh, Medan and Indo Bagan..
You can basically call it whatever you want based on the bloodlines of the parents. Usually Indos are named based on the town they originated from. But the best bloodlines are originated from Thailand. A mix of either Thai or Viet bloodlines are top fighters.

Very good information. I have some super Bangan and Medan plakat’s and they’re bloodlines are incredibly aggressive. A sure joy and pleasure to have.

It's hard to tell, cross breeding between domesticated Bettas and wild Bettas is getting more and more common these days.
bagan bettas are still somewhat bred heavily, but not as much as fancy bettas that are made to have flashy colors and fins. Bettas that are bred for fighting will be less genetically played with, since they're originally made for fighting, not for show.
