What’s your top ranked Fast Attack choice?
Toss-up between Seekers and Land Speeders.
Seekers present a few options that can be really fun and effective to use on the table, and their BS5 with Precision Shots and Marked for Death are their least interesting attributes on this front. Their ability to Infiltrate is paired with the hilarious ability to take a Land Raider as a dedicated transport (in a Fast Attack slot no less), which on its own is worth it in some legions, and in spite of having a much shorter range than Nemesis Bolters the Kraken Bolter's Scorpius Bolts are just flat-out better as a sniping weapon. Well worth taking stock with the land raider in my opinion.
To add to the fun, Seekers can also be taken as non-compulsory Troops via the Recon Company Rite of War.
Proteus Land Speeders are hands-down some of the best harassment units in the game, bar none, and are something of a sleeper hit as an AT option. Forget the multi-melta - taking two grav guns and a couple of hunter-killer missiles each, a squadron of two is quite capable of making its points back twice over by taking down a Spartan or similar-sized heavy vehicle in a single volley.
Outside of that, the Javelin does well as a long-range fire support platform that can move around (I really wouldn't bother with slapping a multi-melta on it if I could instead keep it at lascannon/culverin range), the Xiphon helps fill that AA niche at least, and Sabres... Sabres require a degree of finesse to use. They're fast alright, but for the amount of points you're spending on them they're trying to compete with Proteus Land Speeders and Javelins for the same role.
As such, my ranking is roughly as follows:
1/2: Seeker Squad/Land Speeder Proteus
3: Land Speeder Javelin
4: Xiphon Interceptor
5: Sabre Strike Tank
I haven't played any yet with my Iron Warriors but i'm leaning towards the Jet Bikes for rule of cool. Just pulling up on a Dreadnought with the boys and some meltas sounds like a good ole time!
Only got Seekers myself, but they've been solid so far and only missed out on a Warlord precision kill by an inch in my last game. Keen to fill out my FA options as my IW are a bit ponderous in deployment and movement, looking at some bikes, speeders and perhaps upgrading my Seekers's ride into a raider for some extra outflanking punch and mobile cover.
Contemptor Incaendius Dreadnought
Hear me out, Dark Angels outriders with plasma repeaters. Basically a super fast bike that has an 12” assault3 twin-linked plasma gun.
Really interesting one this one. I play Raven Guard with decapitation strike meaning I only get 1 Heavy Support Slot. This means I rely quite heavily on my fast attack to do heavy lifting in the shooting department, even more difficult is Dark Fury are so good that I basically only have two fast Attack slots. I usually use both your No1 choices, Sky Hunters with MM and 3 Javelins with MM/Las. a Unit of 3 Javelins is surprisingly hard to shift when the unit is basically T6 with 12 wounds.
Loving the time these episodes drop as well guys, right before my Friday afternoon lunch break so I always get to catch it :)
Love to hear it dude
Tell me you’ve lived in the UK for too long, without telling me: “they’re a bit Marmite...”
😂
🤣
1. Javelins - I ran them last edition and still this edition. They are tougher than your opponent expects, nimble, and have solid firepower. Also you can use them to tie up enemy squads in close combat before hit and running away
2. Land Speeders - especially with grav, these are fast and hit hard for their points. They are possibly one of the most economical ways to take out dreadnoughts too. Run 2 x 2 grav
3. Jetbikes - literally just rule of cool here.
4. Sabres - they kinda get blown up fast imho. Cool tank, but I find them to be a bit lackluster in output and survivability
5. Everything else
Maybe a better way to think of jetbikes than 'glorified tac marine' is 'heavy support squad that can move 16 and fire'. Definitely my #1 too, although the javelin might be my #2. Also volkite bikes are cheaper per wound than volkite hss, so unless your opponent commits serious firepower to what is essentially a very fast infantry squad and doubles them out, they're faster, more durable, and more capable of alpha striking than a HSS, a unit which is apparently a bit of a problem.
Hi my name is Alpharius, my fast attack slot is filled to the brim with borrowed units or Headhunters
Im back 5 month later... how is 14 inch move and shooting everything slow?
The problem with the proteus is that it is 60 points base with only a heavy bolter. To add on weapons it gets very expensive. A multimelta is 25 points and a grav gun 15, to put both on is 95 points (you get a discount for the first weapon swap with heavy bolter by 5 points).
But here is my reason why the proteus is the best fast attack slot:
It is the cheapest deepstrike unit available in the game. So when I deepstrike in my jump pack infantry, once the infantry has eaten interceptor, I can charge in the 60 point sacrificial proteus and avoid the overwatch fire on the infantry.
Furthermore, the more you upgrade the proteus the more of a target it becomes. But if you use the proteus to shoot those heavy support squads with a single heavy bolter, not many people will return fire at it but they may lose 1 or 2 models.
I think it is the perfect unit and will always win it's value back in the game, even if it just eats some interceptor or overwatch.
An alternative option is to put a grav gun on the proteus and just have it to follow the opponent's death star around and drop difficult terrain on it every turn.
Javelins are annoyingly good, and they upgrade from missiles to lascannons for only 5 points. It is better than the proteus in point value, two lascannons and melta is 105, proteus grav gun and melta at 95 and I know I would rather take the T6 Jav for firepower.
Seekers are cool and give you access to an infiltrating/outflanking land raider as their transport
Love my skyhunters, every time I've used them they've done so much work and killed a lot more than what they cost.
Thanks guys!
Ty kind sir!
I think Outriders and Sky Hunters both are very good at going to destroy those back of the board enemy units with melta that you need to destroy turn 1 or maybe 2. The Skorpius is such a common and dangerous tank, it will just pick up handfuls of your power armor models, and having a very fast melta platform that can just drive up and kill all the enemy Skorpius tanks, is amazing. Not bad for killing enemy predators or HSS/TSS in rhinos if there are not Skorpius to kill. Just my opinion.
But yeah, that little missile tank (or 3 of those little missile tanks) just pick up power armor, so being able to destroy them before they can, is amazing.
The 1w for the outriders just makes them waaaay too frail. Have had mine get downed by tacs before and I've stopped using them till I figure out how to better use them... Expensive and weapons aren't that good. Outflanking also kinda ass and easy to counter.
Sky hunters though. Deep strike and plasma pies with 2 wounds. Hoho, now we talking.
Love my las cannon and multi melta javlins
Could giving cyclone missile launchers brutal (1) resolve your issue with the javelins?
That is a great idea (Jason)
Screen the legion infantry, nuke a dreadnought with the xiphone
Timestamps on this Video would be SOOO GOOD!
Plasma jet bikes have been doing work and my proteus land speeder with multi melta and havoc launchers have been run through terminators
Good list! However - with a certain rite of war; predators become fast attack, making them the clear winner. 😂
For these generic ones I think mostly we try to leave out ROW or legion stuff since it can really change the landscape
team jav all the way. i own six and i love running the triple squadron they’re so fast and with BA assault cannons do so much.
my only negative thought on skyhunters is for most legion's they are too vulnerable without characters attached and those characters can only have a jetbile with heavy bolter
People hating on jet bikes for not being t5 got me fucked up. You are paying like 14 points per model to give a multimelta heavy weapon team deepstrike, Relentless, and a 14in movement.
Seekers are a staple in my army. They are a tad squishy for their points, but they really can apply preassure! Javelins are a close runner up, their return fire potential is just phenomenal!
Ive been thinking of trying them again, I think part of my problem is that I have a lot of ML ones which are just bad now (IMO). THe ML ones used to be my faves but now not being able to take out dreads really hurts them.
@@meatlaser we play dreads with a 3+, so that definitely changes things. But there are other targets, mainly HSS and veterans. Also just getting rid of tac squads with an apothecary can be worth it!
Ive have brought my Xiphon to about 7 games now. Ive got to actually use it on table once as it always gets Intercepted. I may as well just play 2900 points and leave it at home.
😢😢
I think part of the reason I have not had that problem is I have a deep strike assault normally arrive at the same time. The last thing they are worryed about is the Flyer. Maybe try throwing in some other units arriving from reserve ?
Everything you say against Jetbikes is doubly true on Outriders though. A Jetbike is 30-40 points depending on weapons. An outrider can be 20-35 points, but the outrider only gets a single wound
