      Thanks for the kind words Simon, I think I was just in the right place at the right time! I don’t tend to take water temps, maybe I should. It was 14 deg C though, not really a breath of wind, I’m just glad the midges, although still clinging on, are no where near as bad as they were a few wks ago. All the best 👍

    i fish a very small club spate river near Carradale on the kintyre peninsula , this season i caught my first 3 salmon ever on the fly , i lost about half a dozen due to inexperience and they were all from september onwards . i believe i was the only angler in the club to catch a salmon from our burn this season , but i also believe i was the only angler fishing consistently a few hours per week or anytime there was water . ours is also cat 3 no take . i think if more anglers fished the catch rates would show some improvement in the west coast waters , sadly lots of members who recall the glory days before salmon farms and forestry will not bother to get out the rods unless they hear of fish getting caught. if people dont fish they are not catching ! very nice looking wee water there , it looks familiar although i have never fished it , well done on the wee grilse

      Thank you 👍 well done on getting your first salmon let alone 3, that’s fantastic.
      Yes, it was a decent season for me personally and when I filled in the ‘effort/time’ fished on the migratory returns it wasn’t a lot, and as I said in one of the videos that’s not showing off I think it supports what you are saying. Don’t get me wrong, the rivers are in a very precarious situation, but I think last year the return for Portree AA was 6 salmon/grilse for everyone, which is pretty depressing. I’m hopeful this yr will be better but the lack of anglers out plus returns maybe not sent in, shows it in its worse possible light. It may be a few more were caught and if more went out, maybe the catch would improve. Now I am secretary it’ll be interesting to see the returns and I’m hoping to be more involved with the local rivers trust so will maybe get a new perspective on our few spate rivers in terms of health - the trust have been doing a lot of monitoring work on our juvenile fish stocks. There’s a lot to be done granted and the situation isn’t great, but you have to try to take small positives when encountering a few fish. There were farmed escapees getting caught last wk of season in mid Oct but all the commercial operators said there were no know escapes. The wild fish face a multitude of issues.
      All the best for next season.

    Great video. Looks a lovely wee river to fish. Has findhorn like vibes to it. Hopefully you get out for a few more casts with this rain.

      @highlandfishingdiary8818 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers, it is a nice one, we have some decent variety of rivers - that short gorge section is a bit like the Findhorn in miniature now you mention it! Yes, I went out yesterday I set myself a challenge to try to catch a salmon in the river where I’ve only had them lower down, never up the glen. The river is gin clear, I never saw a salmon let alone get an offer, but did get a nice sea trout and did a fair hike up the glen in great scenery. But fingers crossed I’ll get a few more casts in before Oct 15th. Enjoyed your latest Beauly video 👍

That said, part 2 should be uploaded this evening and it’s bloody 20 mins, unless I can shorten it some more. @@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 yeah, you could get proper bogged down and depressed going through that (well, I could 😆), so i don’t bother. Bit of fun in the end and mainly a way of documenting your own experiences, as much for yourself as anything else, to look back on as well as try to help or encourage others to have a go. I do tend to watch things right through no matter what, time permitting, most videos I genuinely do enjoy and you have an inside idea of the time people spend doing these videos. Well, definitely - we have to stick together us NICEIC sparkies 😆 when Mat came to do the assessment last week, I couldn’t believe watching or creating YT fishing videos didn’t count towards my CPD time!! I’ll be trying to slip in the odd electrical reference now and again, only casting into the prescribed zones etc etc 😆thanks for the comment, no worries give me a shout, all the best for the remainder of your season.

      Yeah, there real picky about CPD 🤣I'm not sure about the electrical references though. I think its a phase you might be going through and there could be viewer resistance? But if you're set on it you might need to amp the references up; but make sure theres continuity in what you do 😅

      No it’s not there, I don’t tend to mention specific names and locations, I hope you understand. This river has really struggled, so this season for me has been an exception rather than the rule. So hopefully it is a small positive sign for our rivers, all of which are Category 3.
