The 2018 Patek Philippe Complications Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 5524R was the star of the 2018 Baselworld novelties at Patek Philippe's imposing booth. With there same lines, dimensions, and GMT functions of the sensational white gold 5524G of 2015, the new rose gold Calatrava Pilot adds warmth and richness to the practicality and technical brilliance of the original Calatrava Pilot.
Inside, at Patek Philippe 324 SC FUS automatic movement provides a factory-guaranteed -3/+2 24-hour timing precision, dual time functionality, and finishing beauty befitting the Patek Philippe seal. A power reserve of 35-45 hours is energized by a gold unidirectional winding mass that pivots on ceramic bearings. Locking travel time adjuster crowns guard against accidental setting of the local hour.
With active lifestyles in mind, Patek Philippe has increased the water resistance of the Calatrava Pilot from the usual 30 meters to 60 meters. A brown bronze metallic dial features full rose gold cathedral hands and Arabic numerals with copious amounts of Super LumiNova.
This Patek Philippe 5524R features a 42mm 18k rose gold case surrounding a brown dial on a brown leather strap with an 18k rose gold tang buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, date and GMT. The watch also measures 11.1mm in thickness and 50.5mm from lug-to-lug.

It might seem like an obvious point to make, but I think the very best watchmakers (the accepted greats like Patek, VC, Lange und Söhne) never fail to reference the very centre of their dials, the dead centre point of axis. If you look at the less successful designs from other watchmakers, more often than not they’re trying too hard to announce and make legible the readouts at the perimeter of their dials, which counterintuitively disturbs the harmony. The subtle vignetting in the dial on this 5524R-00 is a case in point where the direction of the eye is beautifully and evenly drawn outward like a drop of water and the perfect circle of ripples in a lake of obsidian.
I got a bit flowery at the end, but you get my point. Beautiful watch! Great channel!
My absolute favorite Patek. The only one I find more attractive is the 5711R.

The integration of the second timezone hand with the hour hand is so elegant and stylish. I'm surprised other watch brands haven't imitated it.

The Patek 5524G Pilot looks very similar to the Zenith Pilot Type 20 Extra Special 40mm. Both have several similar features especially the arabic numerals. Did Patek copy the idea from Zenith?

Just don’t get this watch. Saw it the other day in London. Don’t know what it is, the pushers seem too large, not keen on the numbers broken up at 6 o’ clock. Thought it underwhelming. Do like the new 24 automatic though. That watch looks very good in person, more impressive than in .photos
