Well I just became a Henrik Lundqvist fan. It's nice to see the human side of athletes.
everyone loves him
Henrik is putting up with a beyond rediculous amount of bad moves all around him and I feel so bad for him. His closest friends and teammates all got traded away, he hasn't had a decent defense to play behind since 2013, everyone around him is about a decade younger than him.... And he, in his late 30s, is still playing with emotion and trying to give the Rangers his all. He still loves the city, the fans, and it feels like everyone sort of let him down.
It's really sad...

Bad moves? Not even close, it sucks losing players but the moves have been needed and sadly we lost zuccarello, but we are in a rebuild and its been actually a really damn good one and fast. Yeah hank has had to deal with a lot of problems but right now with gorton this team has a legit future, lets face it the teams of the past have been mediocre for the most part, hank had to carry thdm for so many years and has lost his prime years but thats not due to this rebuild.
thegreatmrt Yea the Rangers have been killing it with nearly every move they made since they announced the rebuild (and even a bit before that, with the Zibanejad and DeAngelo trades). Even the Shattenkirk buyout was a good move. I don’t like buyouts but that was the best move they could have made to clear cap. 1) It cleared a lot of cap space, 2) It was one of the only realistic moves that would solve the cap situation without having to make additional moves, 3) It allows the Rangers to have more leverage if they want to trade someone and not take a bad deal out of desperation, and 4) Shattenkirk was redundant with Trouba, DeAngelo, and Fox on the right side. If Fox were to be ready, Shattenkirk would be blocking him. And we could still use Staal on the left side. And Smith can either play as a forward or be buried in Hartford.

It's hard for Henrik, yeah, but to call these "bad moves" is ridiculous. I wouldn't say completing a complete rebuild in 2 seasons is bad at all, in fact everyones saying it might be the best rebuild of all time as of now base off how quick it was and how many ppl were traded.

I hope Hanks get traded to a potentially cup winning team and wins one ! Hanks gave so much to the NYR it would be disrespectful to keep him here right now ! He deserves better

As a die hard NYR fan I respect his work,efforts and love he gave to the team but as much I'd love to keep him there .. as much I feel like he deserves to spend his last few career moments with a team that actually has a chance to win a cup!! By respect and love for him !! Zuccarello being traded was a straight slap to the face.. he gave the NYR all he had and deserved a contract renewal!! But has much as a trade like this can hurt a player and it's fanbase since it's a genuine disrespectful slap to the face.. a Hanks trade would be a love move ! All NYR fans would love Hanks to be a Rangers till his retirement! But most fans wants him to get traded by love and respect! We all know Jeff Ghorton is destroying the team "have a bad vision of rebuilding a team" and Hanks doesn't deserve sinking with the damn ship!

Man I'm crying. To see such a respected, talented hockey player be choked up because of his teammate. This game is so much more than a sport. To see these players love each other like family it makes it that much more real and emotional
As a Swede, watching one of our national heros like this hurts and brings me pride at the same time. Henke is a hall of famer. Great man on and off the ice. Mad respect.

Yes, we have connections between all Nordic countries inlcuding our DNA for many of us. We fight in sports and some kind of big brother - little brother hatred but we have really close ties. I'm a Swede but I have found ancestors in Denmark, Finland and Norway as well (confirmed). I believe Sweden and Denmark has same kind of world record in number of wars between two countries, it was a while ago though. ;-)

@@elestromusicgamesfun1101 Well, since I am a Swede I prefer Sweden! ;-) Norway is increadibly beautiful though, I have to admit that, amazing. I haven't been to Finland very much but I like their fighting spirit (sisu) and attitude. Denmark perhaps a more European vibe with a better climate, the Danish people seem to be slightly more relaxed. Since I have found ancestors in all Nordic countries when doing ancestry research I am slightly more diplomatic now than I used to be... (especially about Finland). ;-)

My god, poor hank :( Wish he had a better team in front of him. As a Swede, even tho im a caps fan, I really want to see the king succeed. Zucc was clearly an amazing player and personality that will be missed in the rangers room.

It's been a tough season for Henrik and Rangers and this won't help but like he said (not in this video) when you play so long for one team you have to accept seeing many friends come and go. Trades are part of the game but when you've had a long time to bond seperation becomes harder. You always miss them and wish them well but you move on quickly. This though is different. Mats was more than a close teammate, he was his best friend off the ice too with lots in common in both minds and interests. So this is more of a personal loss.
I hope he can recover enough to hopefully finish strong, but not just him but the whole team. But if it all goes south for him I won't blame him. It would've been less of an excuse had it been a more common trade where you just respect the guy leaving, no deeper relationship making it easy to just say "Good luck" and leave it at that. But again Mats is not just another collegue/teammate to him.

I've always liked and respected Henrik Lundqvist. Good goalie, nice guy, very respectable. This just solidifies how much he values hockey as a team sport, and just how important every member is. It's always tough losing a friend. 😔

I dont think its the trade itself that made him cry. Its part of the game although its tough. But they probly went through some shits together and personnal stuff. So right away he thinks about those moments and got emotional. Refreshing to see an athlete caring for his teamate

Steve McPlay Well, the Ray Bourque situation is not that common unfortunately. Even worse, it’s less common with goalies. Good players that are on the decline can still be useful bottom 6 players. But good goalies that are on the decline very rarely lead a team to a Cup.

This was a very bad trade by the Rangers, fans are furious. And Hank's reaction doesn't make it better. Gorton doesn't even have the balls to make a public comment, after trading away a beloved player who's been around for almost a decade. This management must be replaced, fans have had enough.

don't really care about the rangers but I had Zuccarello on my HUT team in NHL 15 and that boi was a beast. must be hard saying goodbye to somebody on your team after playing with them for a decade.

This must be NYR dummest trade ever. Look what Zuuc gave to this team. You can see in Henrik what god friend and teammate means to each other. I know it was though Henrik but it show’d all of us how much of a friend he meant to you. As a huge NYR fan and a huge Zuc fan I say there was nothing dumb about this trade. If you know the business side and their plan, you know there was no way they were gonna sign a 31 year old for an expensive long term deal. I love Zuc but there was no other way. Don't mix up fandom with facts.
Not sure if a 5year contract would be a bad deal for NYR. All those artifacts that zuuc fans would buy. You dont get to be a MC Donald best effort 3 times if not the fan loves the player. But YES there is a buisness side to this:)
It's tough but they had to.
As much as Zuccarello loves NYC and the Rangers, and he gets a lot of apppreciation from fans, there's always the business side to pro sports. Everyone has to be subject to a trade at least once during a career, and you trade players while they're tradeable. If you're not the no 1 on your team's points table, you're per def. tradeable, barring circumstances of sitting on too heavy a contract for anyone to buy out. Gaborik was one such example, once he move to the Kings. Proved useful in winning a second cup, but didn't redeem himself after an injury, and had a contractual salary way too high for any other team to cash out. Eventually ended up in Ottawa never to be heard from again.
Hall of Fame now. Stanley Cup now for this guy.
This proves that hockey teams isn't just about the game, they become family..

Should not have traded him. Should not have asked him that question. Just lost a game and then you put that question in in his face. When big players like Step, mac, and zucc go you feel it in your heart and it's tough to see them go.
Hockey is easily the most authentic and best professional sport these days. Where they all care about the sport more then money.
