Quick Recurve Bow Build - Woodworking Projects

- Building a primitive recurved self bow with hand tools. I used European yew branch for this project. It was croocked and full of character but I managed to find a bow inside. It was a challenging one, but turned out to be very rewarding!
To make a recurve bow the bowyer has to apply bends on the specific parts of the stave. On this particular stave I used natural deflex to end up with deflex-recurve style of the weapon. For bending recurve I used my trusted technique - steam bending.
Each end of the stave was steam for 30 minutes before bending. Then the wood had to cool down in the jig, before more work was applied. The bow ended up drawing 30lb at 23" (54" ntn).
8 minutes of traditional woodworking. How to make a fully efficient bow using only a few tools and a piece of wood? Find out watching this video!

All the best guys!!!
One of the best fast bow builds I have seen on the internet... no messing around...right to the meat of the video...👍👍👍
The economy of what you do is awesome. Example: using the drawknife to mark your dimensions. You reveal another technique on each video
Very nice skills in making them and I appreciate you showing them to us.
Felicitaciones, un arco fantastico!!!
Thank you!
Another wonderful bow from your Workshop. Amazing!
Thank you very much! Appreciate it!
Very nice. Very impressive.
Amazing! I love this Video! I need one!
You make it look so easy. Very beautiful bow👍🍻
Impressive! I figured with all those knots and character, that it may break. What was the final draw weight?
Are the limbs parallel thickness before tillering? Only having a taper in the width? And then just scraped in the weak spots? If so is this method just as good as having a taper all the way through the thickness of the limb?
Very beautiful bow
Thank you very much!
Its very superb
Man that's a sweet bow
Thank you very much!
Wow, who could have said that this piece of wood asked to become a bow. It wasn't a super easy piece there! Awesome work as always! Hope your personal business if going well!
Thank you a lot my friend! Yes, that was a character piece. Having not much time lately but doing good. All the best!!
Have a question... How thick the profile must be shaped to reach 50-60 pounds without cracking or breaking the limbs approximately?
Amazing job friend by the way 👏👏
Depends on the wood, and design eg limb width (not just thickness). From 1-4cm perhaps
@@ppeppe I apprecite that... Thanks bro 👍
Beautiful weapon 👌
Thank you so much!
@@DreamcraftBows ur welcome bro
Hola muy bueno saludos 🇦🇷
Thank you very much, all the best from Poland!
Cool
it looks so effortless when you craft a bow man.. I have a very hard time determining the string length (never succeded for a recurve) -> maybe some viewers would also like that?
Hey! Don't know if you build bows but basically after you tiller your bow you pretty much have your string length there. But let's say you have absolutely no string and only a bow, you can measure string nock to string nock and remove 4 inches. that would be a good start.
Thank you for your comment and feedback! It takes some experience to make it properly - as with every part of the process.
@@martarmis thanks mate! does that rule also apply to recurve bows?
@@arturleperoke3205 it definitely depends a bit on the bow design for sure. Ideally you would need a tillering string with only one loop on one end and straight on the other. This way you can test different string lengths before making the final one. The shorter the string the higher brace height you will have. Stay in range of the bow's official brace height. Should be somewhere around 6" to 8". Fiberglass bows sometimes have higher brace heights. Look up on TH-cam for Krammer Ammons finding right string length. This could be a good starting point for you.
Wood name please
Have you tried a Turkish bow?
Are you saying try to make one, or has he used one? I agree, he should try using one, but the making of it is so far off from the kinda bows he makes. Laminating natural, non wood materials is something that takes a looooot of trial and error if you're not being taught. Don't get me wrong, it'd be cool for him to use horn in a bow, I just wouldn't be holding my breath lol
What kind of wood is that?
Yew wood 🏹
Yew wood sawdust is highly toxic and dangerous to breathe. Definitely wear a respirator especially when sanding it.
@@jeremyxx11 You're right. I'm using mask and I'm very careful working with this wood
I really like how none of your bows are exactly the same. Seeing the whole process is really cool. Is there a link to buy one?
Nice bow I noticed nothing grows under a yew trees except poison mushrooms , 🏹
That seems a bit shorter than what you usually makes.
Yes, this stick was only 140cm. But still fun to build and shoot!
For Gods sake keep ur damn promise and make a freaking bow with pine wood that will show how skillful you truly are
Fantástico !😮😮🤩🤩👍👍👍💪💪💪
Thanks 🙏🙏🙏
