Did I Just Find My Old 1973 Dodge Challenger?

  • On today's episode, I went to pick up one Mopar and ended up finding one I'm very familiar with. This 1973 Dodge Challenger was originally a 340 4 speed car. At some point in its history, someone turned it into a street machine with a big block, shackles, and ridiculously wide slot mags that stuck out past the quarter panels. I bought it from the Mopar ranch some years ago, and had a lot of fun getting it cleaned up and back on the road. Of course, life happened, as it often does, and I had to sell the car to pay off taxes, credit cards, and Christmas one year. But here it is! Much better than I left it in many ways. Now I just have to figure out how to buy it back...

    Cool! I wish some of my old Mopars from the past would reemerge again, most are states away nowadays, would be cool to get to revisit one, although a friend of mine does have my old 68 GTX, but he's going to keep it. Sure hope you can get yours back!👍

    Challengers and Cudas are the most awesome cars ever. You need that car back. I had a 1974 360 4 speed back in 1978. It was a real rallye car FE5 red with strobe stripe delete. I bought it from the original owner and that's the way he ordered it. I always wished that it had them. Now I have a real 1972 340 4 speed rallye hemi orange EV2 with black strobe stripes and black vinyl top. I love this car. My tail panel on the 74 was black but I like my 72 with the Argent tail panel better.

    • @DeadDodgeGarage

      Nice! I dunno, I really like the tail panel black out with the late tail lights. And I like the late cars. Many people crap all over the frownie faces but I like them. For one thing, they’re the cheapest way to get into an E body, and all of the important parts are the same. I’m into that.

    It must be nice when they come home. That hasn't happened to me yet and since the old family cars (if they still exist) were last in a city 1800 miles away...

    I habe been binging all your old Vids, This is exactly what i have in my garage, Currently been bringing her back to life after 27 years, It's all there except someone destroyed the original 340 and lucky me, Replaced the block with a 69 340, Moter has been rebuilt and now redoing everything else, Hopefully in a few years have a really nice driver, Oh yeah, Original cali car with A/C so it got the undercoat treatment and...NORUST!!! Lucky me!!!, My 2nd Chally, first was a 72 with all the goodies, but 318 auto and no strobe stripe, I love the 2nd gen chally's with the grille and tail lights, they just reek 70's..... In a cool way!!!

      Nice! Sounds awesome. The one in this video is the only E body I’ve ever owned. I liked it, and was annoyed by the general dislike for them that people seem to have. It was a very fun car to drive. I certainly couldn’t say that it is the most attractive of the line… I liked the blackout treatment on the front a lot. That helped.

    Speaking of white Challengers, I finally watched the movie "Vanishing Point" this morning. Strange for a guy that really, really , really likes Challengers to have not seen that movie until now. Hell, I even have Vanishing Point diecast. Kind of like a guy that really, really, really likes Trans Ams having not seen Smokey and The Bandit, a movie which I have seen, let's say 100 times. It's my "Gone With The Wind".

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have the original movie poster hanging on the wall. I like it. I never wanted a vanishing point car, but if I bought this car back I would be really tempted by the white. For one thing, my nice cars would then be red, white and blue!

  • @LongIslandMopars
    @LongIslandMopars ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Its got that Vanishing Point vibe regardless of the year. Since the original drivetrain is gone, I'd do it Alpine White with the blacked out grille and tail panel.

      @@DeadDodgeGarage 72-74 Challengers look better when the grill and tail areas are blacked out. If you ever watched the original Gone in 60 Seconds, the red Challenger that gets stolen twice is actually a 72 that looks cunningly like a 70 R/T.

    • @JRC99
      @JRC99 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LongIslandMoparsI think you have that backwards. It was a '70 that was supposed to look like a '73.

    • @LongIslandMopars
      @LongIslandMopars 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm thinking I'm correct in that they used a cheap 72, non-R/T Challenger and tarted it up to look like a 70 R/T. When it goes into the shredder, those taillights are 72-74.

    Was the yellow the OG color? If so I would go yellow again . But I do like that white.

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting everyone thinks it’s white - I guess it’s the lighting. It’s currently in a dusty coat of primer gray. Yes, it was originally yellow. If I were to buy it again and paint it though… and I can’t believe I’m saying this… I think I would have to paint it white. Or blue. But the yellow was pretty good, and I always wanted to add a hood black out and a 71 style stripe.

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interesting idea, but I don’t think that was the point of them. The Charger’s outside turn signals are set into the hood where other drivers will never see them. I think they are intended as an aid to the driver.

    • @rustynails9659
