My dad and I have been heating 2 houses with our 2165 for the last 15 years or so. I did upgrade my top cover to the 2172 cover I hated taking the entire cover off just to clean the filter or change a spark plug. I have been looking for another just because and man these things are going for more than what I paid for it 15 years ago. lol
yesterday i picked up a 80s model echo 650 saw for 350$ its 64cc it came with the 24inch bar is in good shape with chain chain is used but soild oils nicely fires up nicely pulls nicely in the wood holds it power.
I was told that series of saws were the last ones totally made by Jonsered, I have the 2055 Turbo, as you know they have the clamshell crank case (splits horizontally). Some people say that design is more prone to leakage, but i cannot see the rationale of that. One thing for sure, it has lightning throttle response and revs to 14K.

That's a nice 2165! I am currently rebuilding one of my 372 x-torque saws. I share the same experience on the exhaust timing, especially when running the stock limited coil, the first x-torque I ported I went with 98 deg. It wanted more rpm than the limited ignition would allow, I ended up buying an unlimited coil for it. While a screamer and awesome limbing saw 101-102 degrees has made for an easier to tune saw with more pull with a 28" bar for felling and the saw starts real nice with the blue limited coil. The OEM 51.4mm top end builds that Walt did on his channel look to be the most ideal for the x-torque saws, I wish Husqvarna still sold them, I'd love to build one with that top end. Glad you are feeling better Tinman.
@@jameswilson322 Yes I have seen them on there. They are good saws and unless you can find a very low hour oe 372 the brand new ones are the ones to buy, I really like mine :). They come with the blue limited coil, have the newest stronger cases, and depending on the build date a Gilardoni cylinder instead of Mahle like most of the current Huskies. My experience purchasing used rebuilt oe 372s on ebay has not been good. In the current market of available new saws in the world today I would consider the new version oe 372 and the Stihl MS462, or MS461. I favor the 372 because of the fuel & oil caps and I like the Husqvarna full wrap handle over the Stihl 3/4 wrap. The 462 is nice and light and more like a Husky than the 461. They are all great saws.

Been running a Jonsered 50cc class for a few years now. Pulp, softwood, firewood and with a 20in bar is runs like a champ. Sorry to see them exit the scene as I prefer them over the Husky's and I ran a 272xp in the woods for years cutting softwood pulp as my money maker.
I love my cs2171. I think the weight/handling to performance ratio is awesome. Even it shares the 372 chassis, it feels a little more compact. Seems the same for the 365 Jonsered vs Husky
I like these saws, the one thing with the Jonsereds is getting spare parts now. It’s hard to find the full wrap for this jonsered whereas you can buy the west coast 372 kit for like $60 or $70 from the dealer.
Hey buddy!! Just on the x-torq saws I have 575,576 and I had 372 top end was going to build a xtorq 372 but another guy needed top cover etc but I did keep the carb and recently fitted it to my 52mm 365 but from experience if u remove the limiting caps from the needles they need a lot more fuel on the H screw my 576xp x-torq is set at around 2-2.5 turns out and it just tractors through our hard as concrete hardwoods❤
I have a Jonsered 625 that I put a 630 cylinder and piston on. I lost some torque with this change. The new cylinder has closed ports and the 625 has open ports. I don’t know enough to deal with it even though it runs well. The thing I really don’t like about it is that it is very heavy compared to my Stihl 261 and 442. I really wish you could go through the Jonsered 625, 630 and 670 saws.
Leave it stock. It will run and run! My 525 is bone stock and have no idea how many chains and bars its been through. I'll have to count. Worth their weight in gold. I keep it clean and clean. It's on a second plug! 36 years old!!! Keep your stick on the ice.
I bought a new Jonsered 535 in 1988, cut large diameter English Elm for over a year then regular firewood for the next 14 years. I still have it as a back up saw today, no issues whatsoever other than the nylon pull start spool cracked. As for startin it has never gone before 4 pulls even in the coldest weather.
Hey Tinman...how are you Brother? I am so pleased to hear your opinion on this saw, I bought one of these a couple of years ago for $150 CDN and I am very impressed with it. The saw starts easy, it has a 24" bar and it runs very strong in the wood I cut (Doug Fir, Birch, Maple, White Spruce. I would say it is used more often than any of my other (good) saws. I have to admit Jonsereds are my favourite saws and I have run quite a few...535 (I bought in 1987), 621 (built like a tank), 2055 Turbo, CS2045S, CS2252 Pro (52cc screamer), 670 Champ, vintage 90 (the compression scares me) and a CS2186 Turbo. Just when I thought I had enough Jonny Reds I picked up a very clean 2171 two days ago (I have been looking for one of these for about 2 years). As yet I have not had time to run the 2171. Do you run your 2171 stock? To conclude, i am a 'Jonny Red' fan, but I also like my two Sachs Dolmars (120Si 68cc) and 45M6. Keep up the good work, stay safe, WS in beutiful BC, Canada.
Perfect timing Tinman. I had been looking for something on this chassis for a while and finally picked up a totally blown up 2165 about 2-3 weeks ago and was wondering how to progress with it. I have found a donor 365 crank but am still undecided what top end to go for, 50 or 52mm. I already have a 385 (and a 288 project) so don't really need max cc and like the idea of a lighter 50mm piston, but...
Get the 2171 two-piece top cover. That 2065/2165/365s is epic. Absolutely the best firewood saw. 20-24" bar, and there's nothing you can't do to heat your house.
@@redcanoe14 2171. I'm not sure if the 2165 had the two piece, but it will Definitely fit a 2071 or 2065 along with the 2171 and 2165. Essentially a black version of the low-top husky 371/372/365.
@@Matt-416 The CS2165 (made 2008) has a one piece cover with 3 screws. The CS2171(made 2005) that I have has a two piece cover with quick release clips and the same on my CS2186 (made 2007). Seems strange to me that the 2165 being the newer powersaw has the one piece with screws.
@@redcanoe14 Really... though not surprising... Dang swedes... lol. I think it's because of the engine size, nothing more. Probably the same as the 365s has a low top, but the 371 has the high top. Both completely interchangeable. Same crankcase, bolts, ignition, flywheel...etc... just 48mm bore vs 50mm (or 51.4mm). Everything else is identical. When you get into the 2172/372xt things change a bit. So fitment may be an issue. But....?
Hello, been watching for awhile and really enjoyed this vid. I have a 2165 as well and mine seems to have fairly high milage. I’ve wanted to try my first port job on this one and would love to see a comparison between the stock 2165 and your hopped 365 special! Keep up the great work and thanks for the info you share!
Try de-strato on that xtorq before anything else. Go 100-102 on the exhaust and cut the piston to give 78 intake. Cut the strato channels out of the intake boot, remove the dividers in the carb and intake. Blend the strato ports on the cylinder so more goes into the bottom end and a decent muffler mod. They go well then 👍 might as well remove the transfer dividers to make it into a 372 as well.
Hi Richard, I have built some that way. The pistons have held up real well in my production logging saws. I have not had an issue with them using alot of fuel like Fabz speaks of, but I have also run Stihls along time:). I am still on the fence about whether it is better to remove the divider in the carb or not though. What has your experience been with doing so?
@Tinman’s saws I’m pretty sure that’s the first Johnny Red big saw I ever sold in the early 2000’s. I had taken on being a Jonsered dealer as a side line and knew nothing about saws nor had any interest in them at the time.(Threw away piles of old vintage saws 😢 lol) Anyway, the guy who bought it was an oilfield survey guy and I remember it had the heated handle and he was so darn happy with that saw. The J-reds seem to be more popular anywhere East of here especially Ontario where as here and farther west seemed to be Husqvarna country. I tried to find specs on that saw but CCC didn’t have it listed unless I missed something. They were nicer lookjng saws than the Husky Orange in my opinion and the “turbo” name added 10hp I’m sure lol
Hi Tinman, Nice video. Wondering if you could help me out with some info...i have a Jonsered 2165 Turbo too, just rebuilt the carb and replaced fuel lines, but i'm going out of my mind trying to get the trigger and safety spring back on the handle...i've no idea where the spring engages with the trigger! Can easily see where the spring attaches to the safety, and see the groove on the left hand side of the trigger throttle cam, but don't know how to attach to the trigger itself. Any advice would be appreciated, a video clip would be great!
Trial and error showed the way! The spring locates into the trigger by hooking into a small recess at the front right side of the throttle cable cam wheel on the trigger. You have to hold the spring tilted to the left 90 degrees, feed it under the plastic protrusion molded into the left side of the saw's handle (inside the handle where the safety trigger goes), there is a small channel built into the left side of the throttle cable cam wheel, slide the spring end along this channel until the front area of the cam is reached (nearest the saw engine), then the really fiddly bit is trying to locate the hooked end of the spring into the small trigger recess, not on, but on the right of the cam wheel (not on the cam wheel)...really fiddly to get it right, took me hours!
Have a 365 special and a 2165 as well as their bigger brothers. The 48mm's definitely have something about them. Love that chassis, but the 200 series is also a 5* for me. Keep the videos coming! I think you should port that torquier and compare to the 365 special.
Ps check out Walt's tricks for x torqs. Did those mods to my 365 XT (and the transfers) and it's strong, there's a video of mine on my channel. Keep ya saw in the wood!
A frozen block of ash was the only thing that's hit me harder in the chin. It was cool, maybe 10F and had it on the splitter, first half dozen piece and she exploded on me and knocked me square on my rear. Cant remember which block it was, but they were anywhere from 28 to 32". Let's just say I'm a little leery of what ash is left in winter. Hope the family is doing well Tinman. Keep 'er going
Hey, I'm new to the channel. My first saw was a 2065, then bought a 2165 as a back up saw. I still use them often, too bad they quit making them. What husqvarna model would compare to these jonsereds.?
I have one of these fine saws, it was mint when I bought it 5 years ago. A very well built saw, the only issue I have had is with the air intake assembly which appears prone to leaking.
I currently run a ported dolmar 5105 I love for the application. But I'm looking for another saw for firewood 50-70 cc doesn't have to be screaming just need torque? Any suggestions there are no jonsereds around where I live.
What do you think of a 2172? I’m in Comifornia and I’m looking for a 2165 or 2172 as I do believe they are the same chassis or I could try to find a Husky 365 special? I just finished a Stihl 036 Pro that had a very bad scored piston but the OEM barrel I saved. I bought the flex hone used 150,180&400 grit to get rid of the piston and ring material cleaned the exhaust port used Caber rings Highway piston and she started on the third pull!

Hello everyone hope you all are doing well think we can give tinman some more thumb's up. Great video tinman love the content brother!! 🙂
Hey red canoe, also put a spool on mine and an on/off switch.
My cs2165 brought me here. Its kick ass!
I've got a minty 365special all stk with muffler mod and a mint 2065 but I put a372 ported cylinder on that one as it needed a rebuild
She's a beaut of a beast!
Hey, I don't have a 2171 but have that 2165, a 925 and a bunch of 630 supers. I really like the jonsereds!!
I been thinkn of addin a couple jred saws to my group of saws.
Get the 2171 two-piece top cover.
That 2065/2165/365s is epic. Absolutely the best firewood saw. 20-24" bar, and there's nothing you can't do to heat your house.
The two piece top cover sounds like a good idea, what model of JonnyRed does it come from?
@@redcanoe14
2171. I'm not sure if the 2165 had the two piece, but it will Definitely fit a 2071 or 2065 along with the 2171 and 2165.
Essentially a black version of the low-top husky 371/372/365.
Thanks Friend!@@Matt-416
Keep up the great work and thanks for the info you share!
i love my 2163 52mm ported and my stock 2171 both are beast
Try de-strato on that xtorq before anything else. Go 100-102 on the exhaust and cut the piston to give 78 intake. Cut the strato channels out of the intake boot, remove the dividers in the carb and intake. Blend the strato ports on the cylinder so more goes into the bottom end and a decent muffler mod. They go well then 👍 might as well remove the transfer dividers to make it into a 372 as well.
Thanks I may go that route
Yah you can do that If ya want … just make sure you install a larger gas tank because with those mods you will suck fuel like no tomorrow 😂
@@230e4 funnily enough mate. I think I did leave the divider in on the saw I did. Yeah it didn’t use loads more fuel 🤷♂️ it did go well though 👍
@@230e4 the ms462 really goes well de strato
I have 372 xp xt stock works great Timan
Leave it alone brother they are perfect the way they are. You know it.
Nice saw
@Tinman’s saws I’m pretty sure that’s the first Johnny Red big saw I ever sold in the early 2000’s. I had taken on being a Jonsered dealer as a side line and knew nothing about saws nor had any interest in them at the time.(Threw away piles of old vintage saws 😢 lol)
Anyway, the guy who bought it was an oilfield survey guy and I remember it had the heated handle and he was so darn happy with that saw.
For sure turbo stickers add at least 3 hp
Ever heard of a Lombard saw? I have one it says it’s kinda like a homelite
Yep but never really seen one here
had a relation that had a lombard lightening back in the 70s ..............exhaust was fucked on it could hear it 3 miles away .........
Keep 'er going
been cutting way too much ash killed by the borer beatle here in NH. several years dead and dry. hard on chains.
Hey, I'm new to the channel.
My first saw was a 2065, then bought a 2165 as a back up saw. I still use them often, too bad they quit making them. What husqvarna model would compare to these jonsereds.?
365 special
The length of the shavings piling up got me, I've seen big chips but not length, maybe the frozen ash or type of chain
Thats a sharp ass chain leaving ccliopings like it should.
You spoke of a carburetor mod for the 365 Special/2165 saw? I have never seen that video before so which one is the information in?
2163 turbo. Starts everytime first or second pull. Not bad for a 29 yr old saw
stihl ms 261 👑

jonsered 670 champ enters the conversation
I have one of these fine saws, it was mint when I bought it 5 years ago. A very well built saw, the only issue I have had is with the air intake assembly which appears prone to leaking.
nice saw :-) does it run the small mount k095 husky bar? reminds me of my dolmar 6100.
No the 2163 is the small mount version I think??
@@tinmanssaws ok. so the 2165 has a d009 mount. saws with k095s are hard to find in anything over 24 inches.
Tin man I run a 2159!! Yes not a big saw but for I use it for it works good for me!! What are your thoughts on the 2159 jonsred saws??
Always good 👍
I like it buddy
FYI, your audio is great!
gee the J 2165 you have there looks good as it is. guess im easy to please. ;)
Tinman, love the videos. I'm getting fuel on the air filters of some of my machines, is it normal?
Hey Tinman, hope your doing better day to day.
Nice Saw , iḿ building a 372 these Days and now i m waiting for a red barn popup Piston i ordered in the States to Germany.
Shipping is nor cheap, but i dont have a lathe to cut base and Piston. Its my first Husqvarna 372 which a Friend gave me as Gift with a blown Cylinder i could salvage.Iḿ very excited how it will run.Stock it has 99 125 72 Squish 40 thou non xtorq. Now i m searching for a full wrap , but they are very hard to get in Germany, especially as heated version which i would prefer cause its an xpg Modell.
Kind Regards
I have the opportunity to buy a cs2165 seems to be in good shape, guy wants $375 CAD for it just wondering if that's a half decent price for what it is
I’m looking an 044, 460, and an 066 that a guy near me is looking to part with. He’s asking too much IMO. What are they worth Tinman? They are in nice shape start and run good, need a tune, a little dirty.
Was wondering if you take on any work fixing old power saws?
Still using my 2166 regularly. It never asks for anything.
Hey Tinman what are your thoughts on the farmertec ms 440 kit saws? Been thinking about building one.
Haven't had any experience with those.
Tinman! am i going to need a bigger carb if i go to the 52mm big bore kit on my stock 2163??
You shouldn't. Run your stock carb.
@@tinmanssaws ordered everything yesterday! 52mm bigbore kit!
wow!! it's been a yr!! finally got back into the shop and put together the 52mm bigbore kit!! WOW is all i can say at this point!! lots of grunt! can't wait for it to break in!! only a couple heat cycles so far and a couple small cuts but mostly idling! with a couple blips here and there!
Looking for a 265 to go with my 372
Hi tinman
Do you run 50/1 fuel all year round or do you change the ratio for warmer / colder weather also what fuel did you run in that hutzl 372 kit saw thanks
I run 45:1 in all saws year round
I have the 2155 and it's a good saw
I've never run one of those
Flasher in law has one 25 years old she runs like new
Also woman’s uncle has one he ran for years with outdoor stove
I run the 372!for stumping now
I have had one for years
Favorite saw ever but the one I had went through coils which turned me off to them.
so u can put cylinder piston of 372 on 2165 turbo ??
I have a 2165 and a stihl ms 441 magnum i love both of them 65 cc and 70.1cc but I think the jonsered is a better build saw the jonsered will keep up with the stihl 441
Yes, I have 16 saws, the 2165 never fails to surprise me on all levels.
