  • I have always been fascinated with boondocking in my RV, so today we are checking out free sites to camp/boondock in the Ocala National Forest in Central Florida along with a couple of campgrounds that are just cheap, but not free. Dorr Lake, Dorr Lake Campground, Blue Sink, Lake Baptist, Grasshopper Pond, Bluffton, River Road Campground, Lake George State Forest, Dexter/Mary Tract,

You can only camp in an rv or camping trailer at a designated campground. If you boondock camp, it’s only legal using a tent or hammock.
You can primitive camp any time outside of general gun season. You can have a camp fire only if there is no fire restrictions in the county you’re physically in within the Ocala National Forest.

Wow I just stumbled upon this. We live very close to where you’re at, we often go to places that no one else goes. And the price is free. I chose To have my home built with the forest in my backyard. Couldn’t stand the rat race anymore.

The roads sometimes are not graded often enough and summer rains can make that a lot worse. Also in the summer lots of folks skip the camping.

At least we have some places left the snow birds can't get to...

My guess is camping Florida in July is too hot and too many bugs. I would like to see how many campers in late fall when the weather STARTS to cool down.

We have been camping at Lake delancy west for years in the Ocala forest . Our group both Rv and tent camp. Campground has vaults for restrooms , no running water or electric. bring your own water and generator. We enjoy riding OHV's and atv's and you can ride them right out the campground . Plenty of shade trees . If you want no noise there is Lake Delancy East next door. Have to check when it is open . (seasonal for east). Campground has been closed now for a while because of covid . waiting for them open back up . $10.00 dollars a day for west and I think 15.00 for east side. Now there is a KOA and a state campgound close by with full ups but the cost is a lot more . Both are open .

I drove by there and saw that it was closed. Looked awesome from what I could see.

@@allgoodontheroad We went to Delancy today it's closed and has been for some time. Such a shame that these areas are not being maintained for the public. Even the forest service offices were closed and no way to get any information.

@@allgoodontheroad Probably not. That place will need a lot of work. Everything is overgrown. Cant even see where the roads go. It looks like it's been abandoned for years. It could be a very nice place but would take a lot of work.

Thanks. I used freecampsites.net to find the locations. The only free site that seemed usable at all was Dorr lake which was also our first stop so I guess that is my favorite free site so far. I would pay the 9 dollars and stay at river road campground though (our last stop). I will keep looking for a decent truly free site in future videos.

You need to stay on pavement my friend!
Most of those roads can be done in 2 WD or AWD.

Something in the woods spooked me at the 01:40 mark.. am I the only one that noticed the dark shape in the trees in front of you to the right? I thought it might be a tree but it moved at one point. I think that first campsite must be haunted! Lol
