To add onto the love for Evil Dead, if you play the "stranger" character with chainsaw mode on, you now get to play a guy who is rocking a chainsaw in one hand and a shotgun in the other hand. It just feels so right.
H.P. Lovecraft created the idea of the necronomicon first. Also axecodor is a reference to Castlevania SOTN where they had a secret name generator character named AXELORD.
Thanks for that! I know I've heard it several place but I always think if Evil Dead first. That's a good catch on the Axcedor name. I love a good Axelord playthrough.
HP Lovecrafts Necromonicon was also based from an occultic book from the middle east, "The Gnostic Book of the Sun" and many other ancient literatures said to possess knowledge on how to communicate with the dead and demons.
Beat me to it. The Mad Arab is the one witnessed and took down in that book everything he had seen in Ry'lieh (Cthulhu and the other Elder Gods, city of Madness) and yep imagined by H.P. Lovecraft. Actually every horror, every critter in almost any game, horror genre are inspired by Lovecraft!
Not sure if it would apply but.. in the "submission" ending, my geek brain went "hold up, some old creepy dude asks you to bow to him and rule the world with him" then went "is that a Palpatine reference?" also if you go for true evil end you get to betray him (like Vader did to redeem himself before dying).
There's an instant coward's way out ending if you return to the ship after having faced the first monster ;) I think this game is awesome, following in the tracks of way forward and shovel knight dev teams!
Keith Courage gets some love from this game. When you upgrade your power health or mana, it plays a tune very similar to getting the Nova Suit in Keith Courage.
Also at 6:14, his dream is a reference to Excite Bike's victory screen. The future ending's screen where he rides the bike might also counted as Excite Bike's reference because of the jiggling bike.
@@bbyratboi I ignored the Super Mario 2 because he already said it. To be precise, it's a mix of them, hence I included "Also". How about you check both games and you'll understand what I meant.
What could be another little nod is the protagonist's appareance, specially when it comes to cutscenes and his neutral dialogue facebox, and I think that, even if unintentional, he kind of looks like Sol Badguy, from the Guilty Gear Series, specifically Order Sol, since he has a more knight-like appareance. Sol is usually depicted as a "Hero because he's forced to more than because he wants" kind of guy, being rude and blunt. Plus, the reds, the brown spiky hair and also the red bandana... Again, it might be just a coincidence, but ey.
The Contra reference was at the very end. I didn't go to into depth into it. If I make another video I'll definitely put it in there. I'm gonna try the Kojats one for sure! Thanks for letting me know.
@@MegaYoYo It is not a new ending, you will have a normal ending, but befor the ending finish a scene shows the creature still burning in the cage (the one you can burn or talk). It is a funny scene.

This game is so freaking awesome. Best "retro" game since the 90's. I play it at least once a day. Love it.
This is a true labor of love. I enjoy when developers pay their respects to the classics.
For reallll

Chopping him to become true evil is what Kylo did, but still accurate!

YES! I remember getting that one. It's a fun ending. I love endings that end the game in >5 minutes.

You are wrong about 6:14 - this would actually be a reference to Super Mario 2/Super Mario USA and its advertisement-oriented reskin, Doki Doki Panic.
Mario does the exact same dream, when you cleared the game.
@@bbyratboi I ignored the Super Mario 2 because he already said it. To be precise, it's a mix of them, hence I included "Also". How about you check both games and you'll understand what I meant.
Bards Jules and Jason are tribute to musicians FamilyJules and Jason Letourneau - both composers of the OST.
The wizard reminds me of Cadash more , the old school fantasy platformer. Came out around 1990

I was always wondering why his portrait looked so familiar. He does look like Order Sol. Now that you say it is hard to unsee.
There is another name: Kojatsl. He is also one of the developers.
Also how come you didn't included Contra reference?

@@MegaYoYo *Kojaktsl* sorry for misspell. It changed dialogues
Damn crazyy
I don't know if Abbadon's death animation it's a reference to Crocomire's death animation
I've always thought that
Is Abbadon a reference to the NES game Abadox? Looks like the dude with the eyes for sure!
mmm I love a good wall chicken
Some say that their apartments are housing stupendous amounts of wall chicken.
Songs in the videos please
There might be some Rastan in Axecedor too.
Ooouuu that’s a good one. All those barbarian characters look alike.
bro simons quest tornado still kills you tho
But you don't lose any lives (if 0 lives left then you don't get deceased game over)
how do you get the helmet you're wearing in the beginning of the video?
It's the jetpack code for the Game Wizard. You get the code from one of the endings, I can't remember which. I think it's one of the evil ones.
@@movezig5 I realized a little after this post and I felt silly. thanks anyway.
Axcedor is a reference to Astanax or possibly Rastan.
I think it's a reference to Astyanax
@@MegaYoYo if that's how it's spelled? Sure. I remember the game and the style.
I think the mage is more to Castlevania 3, Sypha had her default fire spell that looked like that.
I was thinking the Wizard out of the Cadash platformer myself.
I think axeador is their mascot for beserk games.
If you dont destro y the burning monster, he appears at the ending of the game still burning.
Which ending is that?

I’ve had the game for a week and a half and I have 45 hours on it💀💀💀💀💀💀
Yea baby keep adding hours!
Yeah yeah, so many "references". The guy just ripped off Castlevania 2 and Faxanadu
I think he built off what those games built. He’s just respecting the roots of the genre
