Romy committed suicide…never got over the death of her child.
@@Bailey2006a
The death certificate gives only heart failure as official cause of death.
As you correctly stated she was of course devastated by the tragic death of her teenaged son just about one year ago and had never fully recovered from it.
Also just a few years before her death she had one of her kidneys removed because of kidney cancer, and despite the warnings of her doctors she never stopped neither heavily drinking nor the use of drugs to push herself up in the morning nor barbiturates to find sleep.
That misconduct might have contributed to her untimely and sudden death.
And the suicide-death of her ex-husband and father of her son, Harry Mayen, just three years before, was also a big shock for her.
However, absolute certainity will never be achieved as the prosecutor waived the order of an autopsy in order to protect her family.
So it is really no exaggeration to say, she'd literally died from a broken heart and sheer emotional exhaustion.
It was her husband and father of her son, Harry Meyen, who definitely committed suicide a few years after Romy had divorced him and after becoming depressive about it.
Harry had played Keller in this movie.
@@gunterangel wow, great information, thank you.
@@gunterangel Meyen was a depressive, his condition caused by the torture he had received from the Nazis for being half-Jewish. In 1979, Meyen hanged himself at home in Hamburg. He is buried in the Ohlsdorf Cemetery. His son David Meyen died in an accident two years later.
Einfach gut!!
Genau!
Jawohl! Das Stimmt.
What the comments illustrate is that over time former enemies may now view films of a shared past and speak of them proudly. I still have a picture of Romy Schneider near my desk on the wall with other actors.
This was an EXCELLENT movie! Can't believe I've never heard of it until tonight!

Escape from Sobibor and Downfall are two excellent movies!!

mit Gert Froebe - who did 3 magnificent films on contract, this one, Goldfinger and The Longest Day, and he steals the scene in every one of them.
Great movie, solid cast. So many of my favorite actors in one movie. Sadly, may many of them Rest in Peace.
After the war, Chapman remained friends with Baron Stephan von Gröning, his Abwehr handler (wartime alias Doctor Graumann),[21] who had fallen on hard times. Von Gröning later attended the wedding of Chapman's daughter. (History, weirder than we know!)
I just saw this movie yesterday. Great movie and cast thank you for posting this movie for free.
Saw this MANY years ago at the theater when it was first released - loved it then, love it now.
I was seven years old in 1966. Too young to see this at the time. Loved everything Christopher Plummer was in. Obviously, I was taken to see the Battle of Britain and the Sound of Music. This is the first time I have seen this film and I am pleased I did. Thank you for putting it up. It was pure gold, with a brilliant cast. Surprised to see Goldfinger in it. Terrence Young was a brilliant director. 👍🏻
Remember "Goldfinger" was also "Chuchy Face / Teddy Bear" from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". ;-)
@@AndrewFosterSheff69 Oh yes he was. Thank you for reminding me. Gert Frobe was a brilliant actor. He hardly knew any English when he played Goldfinger. He just learnt his lines. He was also in ‘Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines.’ 👍
A very splendid movie I've never heard of before. Glad it was uploaded. Directing, acting, all very excellent and an entertaining story.

Saw this with my dad back in the 70s. Forgot about it entirely until now. Thanks for the great memories. ❤

It is decades since I last watched this film, a true story and a brilliant story.

Plummer is not in this movie.
You better watch the movie again or get new glasses. He is in the opening scene.@@kovesp1
What a script! The plot very solid with suspenseful twists! Acting was simply top rate. Mightily surprised having been a former cinematic student in 2 colleges. For this time period, this is a delight. Directing, story-characters-10 ⭐️’s all the way!

Yes it's true . But it was the De Havilland aircraft factory in Hatfield Hertfordshire ..not the Vickers factory
What a great movie with no stupid over the top affects like todays movies have, and some truly great actors
Right, just enough. Another is " The train" (I think it is called) black n white with Burt Lancaster.
One of my favorite films. True story of a sociopathic triple spy. His records were only released a decade ago. The movie was a very cleaned up edited version of the actual events. I believe that Terence Young one of the James Bond movie directors ran the sociopath as a triple agent. After the war ended Terrence reported that the ex-spy was now very rich but had no idea where the money came from. Nicholas Booth wrote what is known about this scoundrel in ZigZag. Fascinating read. Highly recommend both as unique.
A well done film it's like a pre James Bond. Surprised after Connery they didn't offer the role to Plummer.
Very good movie. The actors and script are wonderful.

Certainly dont make movies or Actors like this anymore! ❤
Thank you so very much for this excellent movie..... God Speed! USN RET
The narrator is so British funny!
" The police found lots of chewing gum at the crime scene leading them to think the gang are foreigners ,possibly Americans!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
When my husband was in the Navy 60s he use to bring home heaps of American Chewing Gum😅
Great character in the film and in real life! The British have made TV docs about his life. Thanks for the great action!

Un peliculón, con un elencazo como sólo las películas de antes se daban el lujo de
tener; Christoper Plummer, Yul Brinner, Romy Scheneider, Trevor Howard. Sólo hay
que sentarse y disfrutarla.
Que raro no haberla visto en tv. Sera para preservar en sus papeles de Sisi y Capitan Von Trap a estos grandes actores.
Suburb acting all around. A stellar performance. Thanks for posting.
What a great movie I saw it once with my dad and now many years later thank you for uploading
I watched this movie 7 times in Iran when I was 14 years old in 1976 !!!
In Iran, there was no subtitles in any language; rather there were "voice actors" or "voiceover artists" who were speaking in Persian for all actors and actresses in foreign movies imported and broadcasted in movie theaters in Iranian cities.
I was 14 when this movie came out. We had just moved off our farm to a suburb of Atlantic City. The previous year The Sound of Music made film history.
The movies of this era are incredible and cannot be duplicated anymore. Lives of famous actors cross with the ordinary people who all make a great nation. My parents loved AC and the beaches and boardwalk.
There are quite a few Bond alumni in this film:
Anthony Dawson who played Prof. Dent in DR. NO (1962)
Gert Fröbe who played the main villain in GOLDFINGER (1964)
Claudine Auger who played Domino in THUNDERBALL (1965)
... and Terence Young who had directed 3 Bond films!
If you enjoy this movie, you need to read Agent Zig Zag!! Eddie Chapman was a real war hero and this is based on a true story. It’s incredible he got this made in the 1960’s. No one believed it… but the archives have confirmed it!
This is a classic WWII spy action movie with Christopher Plummer, Yul Brynner and so much more....
Gert Fröbe aus dem Erzgebirge ❤ Einer der besten Schauspieler dieses Landes.
A fantastic film, with good actors all round. Thanks
PURE GOLD!!! THANK YOU!!
I had totally forgotten about this flick. Saw it last when I was a kid; it was probably my first impression of Nazis. Brynner and Plummer are great, as usual. But I really like Gerb Frobe (who will always be Goldfinger!) This flick is still entertaining even after all these years. Thanks for posting.
Eddie Chapman was a london villain who worked with Frankie Fraser he was without doubt the best double agent of WW2. One thing he did was to make the Germans think that the V1s were over shooting london so they put less fuel in them and they hit Kent instead so less populated.
AMAZING !!!! 2 actors from Bond movies at the time and I had never even heard of the movie !!! Tremendous !!!! Domino from thunderball and Gold finger as well. Why can't hollyweird make movies like this anymore???
3 actors now, Anthony Dawson was in Dr No as well as Major Stillman in this movie!!!
Terence Young also has a connecting with the James Bond films, he directed DR NO, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and THUNDERBALL
@@jajones-ford2226 I also recently realized that Anthony Dawson who played Major Stillman in this film was also the geologist Strangways in Dr NO !!!
@@crazyoilfieldmechanic3195 Yes. Dawson also appeared in another Terence Young film, RED SUN with Alain Delon ,Ursula Andress ( the 1st Bond girl) and Charles Bronson.
Deerfield Drive-in with Lynn & Pat. One of the few main features I saw there and got to see the ending: the fog was usually so thick you couldn't see the screen. Got to see Plummers daughter a couple times on Broadway. Great actress. Chills up my spine during "Agnes of God"
Awesome! One of my favourite spy movies! Thank you guys
This is a really good movie! I was so surprised. Refreshing to see the Germans played as humans, real people, instead of cartoonishly evil villains.
Ohhh... revisit this as a new movie please. This could easily be retro James Bond movie. And, I could understand EVERY word!
Enjoyyable. Great cast. Good to see Goldfinger in another role
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ha ha ha ! 👉There is no 'Goldfinger" in another role ! It's Gert Froebe in another role !
Noch ein Beweis das früher war alles (fast) besser, grandioser Film dank der Starbesetzung.
Awesome!Storykine.Actors.
One of the masterpieces.
Thanks for posting this movie! Excellent in every way, Christopher Plummer is as good or better than Sean Connery's 007. Viewing it now, we probably appreciate it more than it was in 1966, so much closer to WWII. Phenomenal cast!
Agree w/ everything you say EXCEPT Sean Connery will always be THE Bond.
😅it was a bold statement…I was so enamored of Christopher Plummer in Sound of Music when I was a child…he stole my heart again in Triple Cross! I’m watching again tonight. I do enjoy that he is not taking orders from anyone, and not much of a safety net.
There is far more available now about WWII than when this movie was made. And much more still remains classified.
They used a real Si-204 in the movie!! amazing
what an excellent movie and based on a true story, of British spy Eric Chapman
Great film of 1966 ! I never had seen it before and I was born in 1964 and i thought I had seen nearly a lot of spy/World War 2 Germany movies as a kid growing up.
Christopher Plummber’s talents included his facial expressions fitting the circumstances, in which, he was involved.
A Goldfinger knockoff but still bloody interesting. Plummer gives a good Bond vibe. Loved the fact that the old cars were actually dirty. So many times they look like they just came from the museum. Enjoy
Not a knockoff, based on a real character. Operation zig zag
Absolutely not a knockoff. A fairly accurate depiction of Eddie Chapman's life during WWII. @@trevorfry712

Great flic, saw it such a long time ago, was worth watching again. Thanks.
Who else noticed at 7:23 the headline of the Daily Mirror newspaper he was reading: New Concorde Cost Shock. Looks like someone went back to the future :)
Gotta love the keen eye of some viewers!! It makes the movie even more memorable.
Very good eye, thanks for the blooper, otherwise a good movie.
Oh well spotted ! I noticed a couple ……on the real run where he lands in England ,the farmhouse he goes to is most certainly French , possibly in Normandy . Another was the backdrop sailing into Lisbon , that wasn’t Lisbon and yet another was when he meets the Countess in the Lisbon bar - they overlook that Lisbon is Portugal not Spain ! I might watch it again to see all the other mistakes !
It clearly says New Concord Cost Shock. There's nothing about Concorde there. Maybe take another look.
@@Ul.B This was the mid 60's when Concorde was under development and just because it's missing the 'e' at the end doesn't mean it's anything other than the Concorde. As per Wikipedia: The name Concorde is from the French word concorde, which has an English equivalent, concord. Both words mean agreement, harmony, or union. The name was officially changed to Concord by Harold Macmillan in response to a perceived slight by Charles de Gaulle. At the French roll-out in Toulouse in late 1967, the British Government Minister of Technology, Tony Benn, announced that he would change the spelling back to Concorde.
After the war, Chapman continued to mix with his old friends and got into trouble once again. He never went straight but he never returned to prison. Got a skip pass from MI5?
What stories did they leave out?😮😅
Tolle Schauspieler einfach ein guter Film merci merci ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹
He's like a James Bond crossed with Raffles 😂 awesome film !!
I recall watching this another life time ago now here it is again remember it well Good acting i miss these types of movie!
I saw this years ago, it's a brilliant film
Una película que lo tiene todo. Una gran historia, además basada en hechos reales, y unos excelentes actores.
Muchas gracias por recuperarla.
Loved it. Thank you.
Movies, back in the day, were well done, had the possibility of really happening, and actors weren’t outrunning explosive fireballs in tunnels.
After the war, Chapman remained friends with Baron Stephan von Gröning, his Abwehr handler (wartime alias Doctor Graumann),[21] who had fallen on hard times. Von Gröning later attended the wedding of Chapman's daughter. (Amazing, weird history!)
I'm almost halfway through the movie and I still can't figure out who's side Plummer is on. Fantastic movie!
At best a Spy Thriller. No James Bond or Where Eagles Dare, but it keeps you guessing the whole time up to the last minutes of the film.
Ha! Good fun!
Our scout master showed it to us around 1970 when I was around 13 - it was good fun then and still good fun over 50 years later.
Great movie. Delves into aspects of World War 2 intelligence/spycraft and the Psychology/Morale as the war turned. Plus of course the suave cockiness of the main character.
Le doublage absolument magnifique par Jean Claude Michel. Superbe acteur.
So this is what Terence Young did after THUNDERBALL. What a GREAT, GREAT movie. I couldn't stand to sit through this a 2nd time, though. Man. Christopher Plummer might have made a very "authentic" James Bond, if anyone had ever been interested in actually adapting Ian Fleming's novels as written (EON never was). Yul Brynner was incredible. The ONE actually-LIKEABLE German officer... and he comes to the same end as Timoth Dalton when he played Julius Caesar. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole story, wondering, HOW is this all going to turn out? I'd hope he got together with the Countess eventually.
You expect me to talk? I expect you to LIE, Mr. Chapman!
Claudine Auger and Romy Schneider...that's when women were really so feminine and lovely....love it.
Great pick enjoyed much great story plot all actors and actresses played convincing characters! Bring us more of great art. It beats anything they are producing nowadays, for sure!
" The more scared you are, talk louder! You can get away with murder." I've got to remember that!
Most excellent watch - thank you.
