I’m sorry to disagree but I must. The story of the last Canadian ship being sunk is a story of almost total incompetence. Why don’t you watch it again. Almost uncountable unforgivable mistakes.
My father was the first officer on a corvette from the start of the war. He must have made many transits out of Halifax. I admired his calm confidence forged during the Battle of the Atlantic.
This war no time for mercy against any enemies my dad served in ww2 us navy my uncle served in that army did what was needed my dad came home None of his childhood friends came home in a 5 block radius he served in the pacific his ship was the uss phaon arb3 1 of 12 repair ships left pearl harbor in 1943 got out April of 1946. Thank to all who had the balls to fight for freedom. Thanks dad😊
Thank you a lot of this. Not sure it's the right niche but if anyone loves this topic I strongly recommend Schwerpunkt's videos on the U-Boats as scourge of the Atlantic
We can learn so much from what these men endured and sacrificed on both sides... I feel the way the world is today.... we haven't learned anything..... and it's a tragedy that we should know better that killing people is never the answer.... The hate, pain and suffering that war causes is never worth the price humanity has to pay....
I guess those Luftwaffe officers weren't really on board with how the SS were doing things, but I do wonder what their exact motivation was for getting those POWs transferred from Buchenwald, and the thought process behind it.
The Luftwaffe was the service most likely to have their own officers in Allied prison camps, so they wanted Allied POWs treated according to the Geneva Convention so that their prisoners in Allied prison camps would be treated as well.
It doesn't matter which way you look at it, Germany in WW2 could of won the battle with England if he had more U-Boats. The Eastern Front was a entirely different story.
All of these MEN served in vain. Our nations have ALL allowed corruption to destroy us all from within. I pray that they find a quiet corner in heaven to forget the pains of war.
I don’t understand: was the Bridge actually notified of the ASDIC contact or not? If they were & replied: “Disregard”, well, that’s the deal - Captain McMillan responsible. A “small surface ship” shouldn’t have echo’d from underwater? Maybe the hull? I feel bad for all, wonderful, dedicated people trying their best - war is never “fair”…
The Desperate Last Stand Of One Of The Last German U-Boats |.........wtf does this have to do with pow camps that we are hearing about for the last half of this doc?.......it has nothing to do with it some there for your title is a lie......stop lying and stop the ads.
Have you ever considered that the moon is actually more important than the sun because it gives us light at night when it’s dark but the sun gives light during day when it’s already light out?
These docs with the Canadian vets are great. They have some exceptionally heartfelt and informative stories to tell.
1 of them isn't a Canadian I believe he is from the North East of England, Newcastle maybe or Middlesbrough. But yea great documentary nevertheless.
Norm Christies series of docos on Canada's WW1 & WW2 are outstanding!
Problem is I can't make out what they're saying...and they speak too slowly.
@pistonburner6448 I can understand them perfectly. I'm not British Scottish Irish.
Can’t Change History No Two A Like ❤
A tragic and compelling story. But it illustrates the Canadians' willingness to face battle. A TRIBUTE to the fine Canadian Navy! God Bless!

A TRIBUTE to the Canadian Canadian Airmen! Bless you all!
Both stories are shocking but need to be recorded and heard, and the emotions of the survivors,
LEAST WE FORGET, and RIP to those that didn't make it.

37:16..that dude looks like the actor Jason Stratham!
I hope that old guy that survived learned to forgive himself.
Edit: the first story.
CHARMING AND VERY BEAUTIFUL DOCUMENTARY .. SOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL
Great film. Appreciate you sharing it with the world.

Rarely mentioned are the 47,000 merchant seamen from Canada, USA and Britain that lost their lives during the war, mostly to uboats.
These brave men make todays Canadians look somewhat......
Thank you for the upload.
A very moving tribute to these amazing Canadians / Un hommage très émouvant à ces incroyables Canadiens

Great story. Thanks for preserving this history.
To HMCS Esquimalt survivor Jow Wilson, you did your duty sir. You may rest assured in that. You were failed by your leadership.

More u boats and more planes in the beginning and they could have squashed Britain and focused solely on the eastern front

30:47 it's so interesting to hear somebody who dropped tones of bombs over civilians to complain about his conditions in a camp...
It was a CONCENTRATION CAMP! The very reason the Allies had to bomb in the first place - not a proper POW camp. I know, this is all over your head…
All of these MEN served in vain. Our nations have ALL allowed corruption to destroy us all from within. I pray that they find a quiet corner in heaven to forget the pains of war.
Their ship had no backup battery power or even a hand-crank so they could send a distress signal???
Well, that's a glaring design flaw!

How exactly do you think the moon gives off light at night? It’s the suns light reflecting off the moon.
The sun is also the reason why it's light outside.
@@donnielane3459 why are you dumb?
@Bippitybobbityvery very much, my friend.
What an idiotic comment. Another product of our education system.
