I feel this one of the best videos that can help anybody starting out in the industry. For once it’s not technical, but stressing the social fundamentals working on a set and being a critical team member. I always like to send this to anyone that’s coming up.
Great video!! I'm here in New Orleans still waiting to get back to work from the strike 😕... applying all over because I'm willing to travel hopefully something gives soon! Thanks for the video!
Wow! I worked as a first unit grip with Richard on a Nicholas Cage movie shot here in the New Orleans area. He is a great key grip and a very good boss. He was an absolute pleasure to work for.
Being with people like you is always very educational and inspiring, thanks for all your advice and suggestions !!! I hope to see you soon and give you very good news !!!
A little late to this post but this is a spot on video hands down of our everyday griplife. I can not tell you how much number 1 aka being on time means to setting the tone for the day, uff that alone can just piss off everyone. Well done sir well done.
I'm so late to this party. Awesome tips. My $.02 on calling "crossing." I only cross camera if it's absolutely necessary and feel that calling "crossing" alerts anyone on monitor that you're aware you're on camera and are working to get off as quickly as possible.
A good example of radio procedure. Listen to commercial airline pilots communicating with ATC. Very precise to the point with very little to no extra jabbering. Excellent video.....especially the emphasis on attitude! Extremely important if you want to be successful in this biz. The lines between departments has become a little faded with growth of the “Indie” film industry, do you still recommend checking with the Key or Gaffer before assisting another department as per union example?
Your names are in movie credits. Movies can't be made without grips. Huge amounts of respect and thank you much for sharing your seasoned industry knowledge : )
Thanks for your inquiry! We don't normally sell that type of merch, but we did a successful campaign for Providence Saint Joseph hospital this year involving shirts so we may do it again. We'll announce here if so!
