I was honored to be on stage Security for her. She was amazing ACL 2018 my first gig for this company.
I read that she consulted David Byrne on what to do at a live performance. He told her to not be afraid to put on a show. Guess she took it to heart.
He could have advised her on how to write a melody first. The only reason why she's tolerated on a scene is cause she's hot like hell, which today seems to be criterium nr one.

Never heard or seen this band before until I happened to watch Austin City limits that night. I'm 64 been listening and playing rock my whole life and I have to say this band at least this show real caught my attention. Annie said back stage that when people come to see a show she wants to give them a show. They can buy the album's and listen to the music but they paid to see a show. I don't remember seeing anything like that . She's awesome. I like what she does on guitar and the style in which she gets it done. For some reason David Bowie comes to mind among others. I think she's very talented and seems like a very genuine person. She has a new fan
I like this version better than the album version. But then again I mostly prefer all the live versions of these songs.
Although I am not crazy about every single song Annie Clark performs, she never fails to challenge my sensibilities, much the way Talking Heads or Velvet Underground have in the past. And if I don’t like it, I figure that’s on me, not the artist.

@@fabienh3943 Please explain the "hype". I listen to every iteration of King Crimson, everything that Patton does, Zappa, The Residents, and most other prog type music and I think she fits in nicely. Distinct vocals and style, I know it is her just as I recognize Gilmour from a single guitar lick. I'm honestly curious what it is you don't like, not trying to be contrary just for the sake of it.

I am a big fan of guitarists from the 60s, 70s and 80s with greats like Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, Steve Howe, Steve Hackett, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. For the past 10 years, IMO, the 3 best guitarists are female. Anne Clark of St Vincent is so creative and experimental with her mix of genres makes her guitar playing so unique and fresh so I put her in the top 3 of modern guitarists. Samantha Fish, with her more traditional blues based rock, is such a great singer songwriter guitarist, that I put her also as one of the top 3 modern guitarists. The best shredder guitarist in rock and metal that can play tons of notes very fast is Nita Strauss and she is the other top 3 guitarists from the past 10 years IMO as well.
Why she isn't more popular as modern pop icon? Much better than some overrated "stars"
