I remember an interview with one of the creators who said that they came up with the backyard kids by printing out a bunch of character traits -- physical traits, backgrounds, abilities, quirks and oddities, etc. -- and just... shuffling them around at random. Then they took the random combos and crafted characters from them. This is, imo, a large part of why Backyard had such a loveable and uniquely diverse cast
Tony Delvecchio. Best kid on the block. I really love him so much, because of his look, his attitude, and he's a stud at Football and okay at baseball.
On power ups: there's actually one other way to get them! If you get a hit on a power-up pitch, you're awarded a hitting power up. Another lesser-known boost is Reese Worthington playing with Derek Jeter. There's no mention of it, but Reese plays way up when Jeter is on his team, and iirc there's no penalty to Jeter.
One of my fondest video game memories is the walk up music for each of the kids in Backyard Baseball 2005. Pablo twirling his bat in rhythm, Dante eating on beat, what a time
This means that my absolute GOAT Keisha Phillips will be returning! God whenever I played, nobody hit dingers quite like her and I had Pablo and Griffey on every team
My girl in Backyard Soccer was Sally Dobbs. No clue how it happened, but her stat growth turned her into the GOAT. I tried and tried with different players on other teams, but they never got stats as high as hers
Little Rockets has to be the most hilarious team name ever. That had me crying. But on a serious note these games were so amazing and honestly they could just re-release the games with “updated” rosters just as far as pros and teams but all the same kids and I would be perfectly happy
I still remember going to the library and getting a few of the games. That was where I got Backyard Basketball and learned there were more backyard sport games besides baseball and football, which I spent so many hours as a kid playing. I can't remember which one it was, but I remember having played over 100 games on one file. And always my go-tos were to make sure I got Pete Wheeler and Pablo Sanchez. Not just because they were really good, but because as someone named Paul and with an uncle Pete, I felt more connected to them because of the shared names (since I learned around that same time that Pablo was Paul in Spanish).
Talking about the putting effort into games i remember back in the day they had nfl games where in dynasty or whatever you could control everything down to the price of t-shirts, hats, and food at the stadium
Man, backyard sports games were my childhood. I remember when I used to hit a dinger with Ahkmed Kahn I would BLAST the speakers and my parents would scream at me lol
don’t forget !! if you make a custom team & make pink the primary color, maria luna gets a boost that makes her better than pablo 😂😂 also love that ernie & kimmy get big boosts when they play in their own backyards !! so many hidden gems 💎
@@sersmiles1635 YES! only caveat is the maria HAS to be picked first - the game will put her in left field, and you can change her position the game… BUT with the way the game is coded, her stats will reset if she’s not in left field at the end bc it does some internal seed checks. so as long as you put her back in left at the end, you’ll have her buffed forever
Besides Pablo (The GOAT), I think I always had Pete Wheeler on my team. I love how he walks into the wrong batters box, I love his little quips, and of course I love his unmatched speed
Really shows what current sports games are missing: that give and take, the variety. I want to start a game where LeBron can’t hit a jump shot, or where the defense lets him go 1:1 until the 4th quarter. It feels like most sports games miss this mark there. I want to be able to upgrade my shooters while sacrificing defense, etc.
That’s a good point. Sports games are so maximalist with ratings that you end up with 99 overall players that are good at everything and it gets stale fast. Like why is Shaq draining 3’s on 2k there is no strategic lineup decision to be made when every player is the goat
@@jakehahn8304 don’t even get me started on MyTeam omg. I understand the idea of the mode, and why people play. (I loved 2K14 MyTeam), but omg it hasn’t been balanced in a near decade.
I love backyard franchise are very dear to my heart only I had pleasure to the Original backyard baseball and Baseball 2001 and the orginal backyard football
So we have a video titled Backyard BASEBALL…with a game capture of Backyard FOOTBALL and a dude wearing a Detroit Pistons BASKETBALL jacket as the thumbnail. Bro what even is LIFE anymore?? Edit: wait yo you’re a Secret Base guy I knew you looked familiar love your content!
Back in the day when we were diverse without ever having to say anything or forcing it. All of the kids were different, came from different background and nobody cared. We just wanted to play ball.
8:28 The Stephanie Morgan slander on this channel needs to stop. She's solid in everything, and while she may suck on the field in soccer, put her in net and watch the saves stack up! The only better goalkeeper is Ernie Steele, and he's tall af.
It's actually underneath the stats, really. Dimitri's 8/8 batting/running is valuable, but what doesn't show is that he has a really strong throwing arm that makes him play above his stats as long as you manage his stamina well
It’s strange to me because I was the appropriate age but I played 1 of the backyard baseball games and I thought it was awful and I never thought about it again.

Thats......genius. Use the auto generated stats to think up a personality and physical traits instead of the other way around.
This means that the greatest of all time dante robinson is returning
Bring on the meat 🗣️🗣️🗣️
had a .840 batting average off bunting with him on a season. Bros insane

Awesome retrospective - I can’t wait for this series to come back in its original glory!
Though I did play the OG backyard baseball first as a kid, 2003 was always the definitive version for me. That menu music goes so hard.

I'm glad this series is making a comeback. I never got to play these games as a kid but they look like loads of fun!
I was soo ready for you to make a video about this!! Its coming back!
Kofie, saw your Pablo Sanchez video and then went on an hours long binge on your channel. Great work man
The math/stats was really cool for me, especially as a kid learning them.
don’t forget !! if you make a custom team & make pink the primary color, maria luna gets a boost that makes her better than pablo 😂😂
also love that ernie & kimmy get big boosts when they play in their own backyards !! so many hidden gems 💎
Is this, true?

Do you have a playlist of your backyard baseball videos?
My mom used to avoid M rated games as well, everybody playing GTA and I could only pick sports/racing games
Back yard sports coming back is bigger than gta6
I can't wait to play backyard basketball and backyard hockey
If Backyard Sports can come back, then as an RTS fan, I can hope for Axis and Allies. RIP Timegate.
15:48 in fact... you could make your own "pablo sanchez" if you wanted to.... there is a hack
Good content
Is he still going to be called Vinnie the Gooch? O and I hope they won't change Gretchen
Shohei Ohtani is about to make Pablo Sanchez look like Ronny Dobbs
Yep, first baseball game I ever picked up. I was a little Canadian Jays fan so I named my Manager Carlos Tosca who was their manager at the time lol.
Pablo Sanchez is the greatest athlete of all time!

Baseball Simulator 1.000 is such a goddamn good game.

Dmitri Petrovich is a stud at baseball. Check the stats
He literally just did a video deep diving into all the stats

!!!!!!!!!
Iirc the Kelce brothers bought the IP earlier this year or late last year
The SI article the other day made clear that they didn't and that it instead belongs to Playground Sports.
They said they had interest but the Kelces are not involved
