I'm an Aussie and lived in NZ in the late 90s, I still talk about the Big Fresh animatronics. Definitely a big part of my memories of NZ.

the animatronic butchery men scared the crap out of me as a little kid
It was the acrobatic monkey in the dairy isle for me, but I'd give anything to see those animatronics again!
we had big fresh in Australia with the same anamatronic figures until Coles bought them out in 2002
