    Darn great day hunting! You ready for the cold to go away or what? Astronomically we are in a grand solar minimum and a polar shift so look for long winters to be the new norm. Just stockpile as much material as you can so you have lots to play with in the winter. Thanks for bringing us along and keep them coming....

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a surprisingly cold day in the wind. Still, I would not have missed it for anything. Last time I was there, the rocks were not nearly as good. It all depends upon what and where they blasted.

      @@meMiner lol if I find another one I will send you a Hematite Bloodstone. I have like I said found only one so far in my prospecting. I hit a honey spot for coral fossils. I also found some really cool Hematite I don't think they are fossils yet. Would you like a piece of Fossiliferous agate. I have found a few of those. They're real pretty. I haven't taken the rind off yet but, a few little chips let me see enough inside. They are so packed with tiny shells lol you almost can't see the pretty agate around them. It's on going with me like I really need more stones. I can't help it I get crazy and go pick up what ever catches my eye then look them over once I get home. I really did good this last time. Hope your enjoying your spring weather. I want to go collecting today but, the sky is grumbling and it may rain. Have a wonderful day.😺😉☕💜💙💛💎🐚💖

    • @meMiner

      You must have a great eye to find fossilferous agate. That sounds like a really cool rock and not something I can get near me. I would love one, but cannot ask you to send me something that you have only found a couple for yourself. Thanks so much for the generous offer.

      @@meMiner I don't mind at all I have at least three pieces. I started on that Hematite Bloodstone it's going to be amazing when I get it polished. I am thinking of cutting it into since it has a big nick in the back. Instead of grinding it down and loosing a chunck of stone I was thinking I could make my daughter and granddaughter matcing necklaces. At first I wasn't sure it was Hematite till I scratched it with my diamond grinder lol it left that tell of white metal streak. Hematite is very hard and one of the only things that can scratch it is hardened steel. Every thing else leaves a silvery streak lol. I was using this weird paper grinder and it wasn't moving very fast and the stone was chewing it up. So I switched to this diamond tip its doing much better. I'm so excited can't wait to see it polished. This is my first piece to polish. The other piece was cutting matrix off a bone or tooth don't know which.
      You know I have a large piece of that Fossiliferous stone but no cutter. If I sent it to you would you cute some slabs for your self and then send it back to me. It's the prettiest one and I wanted to make some jewelry with it. One of my pieces the shells are all on the outside I don't think it would make good jewelry and the thrid piece is kinda iffy. It's very flat kind of weird triangular shape. I'm thinking that will make a cool specimen for the grand kids. Won't be too hard to skin it lol.
      I have hundreds of rocks so if you would like something if I have it I will share with you because you've been so kind helping me learn about minerals. So if you could cut some slabs for your self 2 or 3 depending on how thick you make the slices I am more than happy to share. Would you be willing to send the rest of the piece back, I mean pay the postage. I am on a tight budget lol. Rickhounding is one of my main entertainment because I don't care for modern movies. I live a very simple life which I enjoy very much.
      Now I found out there are fossils here OMG I have to go back and inspect every rock I picked up lol.
      I love to share except people who steal from me. I had some people over for a bit when they went home my little TV and several other things went with them. If they had asked I would have given the items or loaned my TV for a while. But, they didn't ask. I open my home and heart when they were having a rough patch and their thanks was taking my things. I don't like friends who steal from me I can't trust them and I can't be their friends anymore. That makes me sad loosing friends like that. It hurts my heart.
      Sorry got side tracked. Like I said if you have the money to send my rock back then I will send it to you and you can have 3 slices if that will be enough. I'm thinking small squares or rectangles what kind of mood I'm in to cut and polish some I may wire wrap others I will drill holes to make regular pendants. If I get brave I may try a cross.
      When I get my Bloodstone polished I will send you pics. I was so shocked to find such a beautiful stone in my red desert lol. There are lots of wild flowers but not any I would love to plant in the ground. Too much Iron in the ground. I'm going to fx it after I get my plumbing in ooooh that will be so nice not to have to carry water all the time. I'm a pioneer woman. You betcha by golly not hair dryers and other woman stuff.
      I think I should stop before I put you to sleep just let me know if the deal suits you and send me an address in my facebook messenger. If you have face book I could ask to be you friend so I'm not advertising my home. It would really piss off my land loard to have hoards of people show up wanting to go fossil or other types of rock on his property. He's a very private man. Plus the Fossiliferous rock I found in the road so I am not supposed to sell it from what I gathered.
      Oooh I found another rock that looked all smoith and white outside like marble. It got chipped and inside is quartz. So is that how quartz looks when it's morphing. This time I am really going. Good night sweet dreans. 😺😉☕🌛💎💎💖💛💝💜💙Ms Michal

      One rule that is strictly enforced in all quarries is "stay away from the wall". Nobody needs a loose rock to tumble down on top of them. Still, it is very cool to see the sides (from a short distance) where they have been working.

    Cool looking crystals. Is there and outside indicator that shows you where to start hammering?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If there is a crack already, that is the place to start. Otherwise, pick a spot where you don't think there are crystals. They can be easily damaged or break off. Probably the most important thing I learned on this trip is to move a big rock to the flat, rather than trying to hammer on the pile. I lost a few nice pieces that fell between the other big rocks.

    I have a cluster of what I thought was calcite but now I wonder. The clump is about 8 to 9 pounds and the matrix is quite heavy. The individual specimens are almost perfect square and dark honey color. I have not acid tested them because of my ASSumption that they were calcite. Now I will acid test them and also test the hardness. Am I correct in that fluorite will not effervesce in HCA? I need to get a YT channel so I can show pics lol. Looked like lots of fun on your hunt. Also a lot of work. Nice vid again. Havagudun my friend.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I often find calcite and fluorite together. Square honey coloured crystals sound like fluorite. Careful, fluorite is mildly affected by many acids and can be harmed. It will bubble if the acid is strong enough.

    • @meMiner

      These were from the Niagara peninsula. There are active quarries between Niagara Falls and Hamilton which have fluorite, but you need to belong to a club to get access on one of their field trips. They won't allow someone to just show up because of liability, insurance and safety regulations. The only spot I am aware that has public access is Montrose Rock Dump (behind the Lowes in Niagara Falls), but it is quite picked over. Not impossible to find nice stuff, but difficult. So best bet to get access to an active quarry, would be to join a rock club and build your vacation around their field trip dates.

    That was a fun video. It seems that the Fluorite crystals contain Hydrocarbons because I've heard that cream or white Fluorescence in Fluorite is due to organic matter and since Bitumens can be found in this quarry, then there might as well be minerals that can contain Hydrocarbons like Fluorite.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you are probably correct. While the fluorite in this site was hydrothermal in origin, it is suspected the crystals have mineral or organic impurities causing them to be fluorescent under UV. Traces of hydrocarbon is known to cause this reaction

    Mr meminer,
    What type of rock gives off a burnt oil/ gear lube smell and has brown and white crystal in it. The crystal has been surviving muriatic acid so it's not a calcite. My son found a big one while rock hounding last weekend. I just am not sure what it is. The acid is taking a while on it. It's been 3 days and it barely made much of a dent on this basket ball size rock!

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a few kinds of mineral that give off a smell. Most of the ones which smell like oil also have calcite or something that is affected by muriatic. Usually, an oil smell is trapped hyrdrocarbon that can be released with heat. I am wondering if you have found oil shale?
