  • Join me as I try to learn how to parallel slide on rollerblades.
I'll inform you of any tips that have helped me get to where I am with the trick as I pick them up.
A progression session where I work on learning hockey stops and finish with a short urban skating montage.

ricardo linos tip is instead of being 90 degrees like a royal, you should be 45 degrees. to continue the slide maintain the 45 deg angle. once you are 90 degrees you will begin to stop. a good example is @7:30 you held a good 45 angle for a bit.

@@BrandonDrummond It takes a bit of getting used to... if you approach with more speed, you also need to do a wider turn. It's definitely a hard thing to teach because most of it has a lot to do with feeling. Every wheel is a bit different, every surface is different... The only reason why I can roughly judge how it's gonna feel like on a certain surface with a certain speed is because of experience. You just need to do loads of parallel slides, like 10'000 of them, if you really want to do them properly.

Nice video, Dude. Funny, I was working on these the other day, first time I've given them more than a fleeting few attempts. Frustratingly addictive! But yeah, I agree, another 1000 attempts and I might be getting somewhere too! I recall hearing Lino say you need to initiate the slide during the transition between your skates pointing forwards and pointing at 90 degrees. This makes sense. Still doesn't make it easy. Love that little wall kick thing at the end!

what helped me the most, was also lino's tipp.
    Practice on wet surface.
the technique looks good, but the sticky slidefeeling is new.
you can also wax the ground, which is great for learning magicslide. but imo its Not enough friction for getting into the Groove.
    wet surface works great

  • @pimmeelhuysen

Make your last turn somewhat bigger, bend your knees and push your heels into the slide. Works for me. Got it from Danny's explanation. Also bigger wheels help.

  • @joshmcdzz6925
    @joshmcdzz6925 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The phrase 'hockey stop' means a lot of different things to different bladers. I will call this stop a shuffle stop or a parallel slide. Hockey stop in roller hockey is way different than this.. it kinda blends the magic slide and the powerstop. But that is even called the roller hockey stop. The 'REAL' hockey stop can only be done on ice. This stop is a shuffle/parallel because you need a tight turn to execute it and involves using your heel unlike the ice hockey stop, it's just a twist and the ball of your feet..
That being said, your progress is very impressive. I am still trying to get a slide outta it prolly because of the surface I am practicing.. Good job man!

The surface wasn't as smooth and I was wearing shorts. Have been discouraged from trying it since, but seeing what your first attempts, fails and bails look like given how much more experience in general you have with skating I think it's just practice, practice, practice from here.

What's up Brandon hoping all is well over there. I'm trying to learn these slides without skidding out on my soul plates. That heel swivel tip from Lino definitely works! The best piece of advice I’ve heard for parallel slide was to keep elbows tucked in and try to initiate the slide gradually not abruptly. Also keep your torso pointed forward so you don’t over rotate your body and spin out. Natan Swiss rollerschool channel is helpful as well It feels weird being on one outer edge and one inner.

When I ice skate I do this by just going straight and twisting my lower body with a little bunny hop. When I get my skate sideways I angle my feet around 45 degrees, like you would normally to perform other stops. I think the figure eight thing you're doing is really throwing your balance off. Try to do it from riding straight and keep your feet slightly within shoulder width apart.

Looks to me like you gotta get lower and focus on spreading your weight evenly on the two skates. With too much pressure on the front skate and not being low enough it's causing your front skate to bite which is why it's throwing you over forwards, Danny Aldridge has a great tutorial for this.

Toes forward like a car drifting is what you want. 90 degrees and the wheels will bite and it's hard to control. Heels forward and you'll roll out fakie. Faster you go the easier it gets to control but the more scary it is. If your toes are angled forward a bit you can roll out forward and it feels safer.

Great timing. I spent this week learning to stop properly on inline skates and I'd done a handful of great parallel slides now, Honestly I'm not sure I'll ever do one when I actually NEED to stop, its more of just a trick. There is vastly more stability in a one footed slide like the powerslide, or even a parallel slide where your center of gravity is between both feet like a magic slide. sliding on both feet the way you do in a hockey stop is really risky biscuits. Its been fun and looks awesome but losing traction on both feet in such an unstable posture is just asking to go down. And every surface is slightly different... as I type this I'm also nursing a scraped knee :(

Yeah the parallel slide is more of a show off trick than a useful one. They destroy wheels and are very surface dependent. Maybe with a TON of practice they'll be useful but until then, I'm gonna stick to t stops 😆
