Just look at the crowds that turned out to see the king and queen of England. Americans have always been fascinated by the monarchy and these crowds show it. I thought the wreath laying at Mt. Vernon was touching. The king and queen cruised on the river on the USS Potomac, which is now berthed in Oakland, CA. I have taken two different cruises aboard her and it was a wonderful experience. ❤
King George was a serving navy officer, WWI. He ate his share of bangers and mash, sausage and mashed potatoes. A hot dog is just another kind of sausage.
I wonder what Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) thought about Sara Roosevelt and Eleanor? The dowager countess character in Downton Abbey reminds me of Sara Roosevelt's attitude as being a member of the old money and the landed gentry.
Interesting that FDR was in his 7th year as President in 1939 and would go on to be re-elected in both 1940 and 1944. I'd have him ranked as the 3rd best president behind Washington and Lincoln.
It's shocking to learn that it took till 1939 for a British Monarch to visit the US. I think George Vl was a more forward thinking Monarch for the 20th century. It also gave Queen Elizabeth ll early familiarity with America
Hi Smithsonian, The Royal family felt mocked and made fun of by serving hotdogs as a main course. Like Junk food gast food at a special dinner. Endearing was the official spin. Timeline TH-cam channel is much more accurate and opened source than the propaganda served up here.
@@frogmouth Think about it ..... Both UK/BRF had to win friends in USA. What better way to win approval than for the Royals to participate in a treasured "American" tradition. So proud of FDR, knowing the pain and effort for years to be able to stand like this. How fortunate we were to have him at the time!
President Roosevelt looked wonderful standing. He was brave to walk. He and Eleanor gave immensely to their country.

I so enjoyed this video! Thank you very much.
Wow the colour in these images , so vivid
It was on Film probably 16mm like the movies that’s why.
*old movies*
The quality is so good
King George VI looks much better in his Royal Navy uniform than the president
Look up FDR when he was young. He even led expeditions on Oak Island.
By the time he was president
FDR was a very sick man. He
was dashing and handsome
in his youth.
I guess FDR was restricted in what he could wear because of his health and the leg braces
A rather small detail, but it’s funny to see how much the opinion on nice, pretty teeth has changed amongst wealthy individuals
Great film footage ♡♡♡
So nice to see this on colpur

George VI has sense of humor just like Queen Elizabeth

The Princesses did not accompany their parents on this trip.
Technically King Edward VII visited the US in the 1860’s but he was the Prince of Wales/ heir apparent at that time
Queen mother is soo pretty
Everyone loves hotdogs, at least until they discover what they are made of.
What ??? Hot dogs ?
Glass perhaps?
it was a PR stunt, the bread represents britains sweet and soft buns and the sausage represents americas thick hog
Lol hot dogs and the royals go figure
2:02 lol
ÁY, POR DIOS QUE SUSTO 😵😱😱!! 2:03".
Pero qué le pasó a ese chico??! Por favor, hermano
The royal family... This is a wonderful scoope😘😍
yes the cheese pizza that prince Andrew likes is between 3yrs old to 16 years old
Their probably a British staple now among the bangers an tortss
Hi there
😂😂😂😂 At 46 seconds into the video it looked like the Queen was giving the crowd the finger.
🌭🇬🇧🇺🇸🌭👍🏽
Common hot dog ingredients: pink slime, meat slurry, sodium erythorbate and sodium nitrite
I won't say that hot dogs back
then were healthy fare. But
many of the ingredients used
today were not used back
then.
