I'm 52. I'm 3 weeks younger than the youngest member of Radiohead.
This is going to sound like massive overstatement, but this song is among the finest work of my generation. This song will be found by archeologists and excuse all our faults. It is one of the perfect songs.

Agreed. I can't listen the actual album at all. The From the Basement versions are far better performed and sounding, particularly Reckoner and House of Cards.

Interestingly the background lyric “in rainbows” appears at the golden ratio of the entire album, how cool is that?

Fun Fact: in the early 2000s the band was working on a very heavy and thrashy song called "Reckoner" and even played it live a few times. They eventually fell out of love with it and ended up sticking to its coda section, building a whole new song around it with a totally different feel: the "Reckoner" you have just heard. They just kept the title and released it on In Rainbows. The "original" Reckoner was eventually reworked and released as a Thom Yorke solo track called "Feeling Pulled Apart Like Horses". The Smile has been performing that one in their encores.

  • @JU5TINPDX

On top of being an incredible work of art, “in rainbows” was an earth shaking album for the record business… At a time when the music industry was in full crisis over the new realities of file sharing and music piracy, and nobody knew how they were going to make money going forward… Radiohead put this entire album online, for anyone to download, and they could pay any amount they wanted, including nothing! Such a bold move for 2007, but they’ve been ahead of their times for decades now.

I think the basement version is even better. This is one of those songs that you listen to with good headphones in a dim peaceful setting and just vibe out I think it's such a beautiful song. I love the outro it's beautiful, especially in the version from the basement.

  • @majorlybad

My only criticism of this song is that I wish the outro was longer. That vocal. Incredible.

For some strange reason that outro with that strings always give me some kind a good feel, like hope or a good memory. Has been my favorite Radiohead song for a long time.

I feel like when you're ready, In Rainbows is the perfect album to review in its entirety. So maybe wait to do more In Rainbows tracks until you're ready for the Album review? There's plenty of other Radiohead in the meantime ...

Been waiting for this one. The band touches the face of god with this song. Jonny is a classical composer and does the scores for PT Anderson films. His strings and Thom’s harmonies and lyrics make this a top five song of all time for me.

“Touches the face of god” is a perfect way to say it. The line, and the way Thom sings “take me with you…” always gets me.

Every time I hear this song, I think "why don't I listen to this song more?"
As my name might suggest, I am obsessed with words. Definitions change over time. Currently:
    1. record - a recorded song
    2. album - a collection of recorded songs
    3. vinyl - a media format for a record or album that is played on a "record player."
