Spider Fighting in the Philippines

- In tagaytay city, south of Manila in the Philippines, video games are unknown to the locales; instead, live spiders are used for fighting for fun, sport and gamble. Here, some local kids enjoyed showing me how it's done, with spiders taken from the tropical rain forest around Taal lake. Very interesting!

When I go to the Philippines for vacation this summer I will buy lots of fighting spiders and sell them to my friends in Canada LOL!
Oh gosh, memories. When I was growing up in the Philippines, there was a spider vendor who sells them outside our school. 2.50 pesos for midsize and big one is 5 pesos.

@scraperindustry some towns in the philippines have their own local names specific to a class of spiders. in cebu, we call both damang. There are some spiders that are called, marka bankaw, 123, aluman, etc.
what is the name of the spider what has tiger marks on his back and with 7 centimeters in diameter ??? because i found it here in Romania .
My dad told me stories about his youth days collecting spiders in the forest and getting them to fight other spiders caught by kids. I didn't really believe him till I saw this lol. Interesting hobby though I also heard of beetle battles in japan
Its really fun, do you know that they train it? and put it in some hot or cold conditions and make it use to weather?its really works actually they get strong,and they are like the veterenarians of spiders cuz they sometimes bring a spider back to life.
yeah lol, i remember when i was a teen, we loveto hunt spiders in ricefields where most of them live. hehehe and it really doesnt bite u unless u harm them. the only danger in this hobby is when hunting spiders in ricefields, there can be snakes around
the owners do try hard finding the strong ones, cuz they are mostly found at night in the woods,and they really go to the woods carrying only a flashlight, its fun though.because in america the only fun thing they know is Video games. they dont know there are better stuff than that.

@multiomnimon how are you trying to catch them?we catch them by hand, easiest way to catch them is when theyre in their web...and easiest way to find them is at night just bring some lights and youre good to go.
province kids dont play video/computer games, they play spider fighting! brings back good ol' memories
the best spider i had in philippines was a hairy black-reddish spider, i bought it from someone who catches it at night

@Rhomeozon you gotta know which spiders dont bite the spiders that they catch are cannibalistics or bug eaters
They naturally don't bite for some reason, unless they're really pissed or hungry or when in rage. I think this goes the same on all spiders, tho I personally wouldn't mess with the large ones. That's creepy shit. Haven't done this in a while.

Boys, you guys ought to have the fight on lower ground so if the spider falls, they don't get injured. Better yet put cushioning for them to fall.
@TheIceGurl no. its not a black widow. it may look like a black widow but its not. actually they are harmless and not venomous.
i used to do this is the philippines... oh those were the days... although i would always get owned. even though i pick out the best spider, my friend's spiders would always have a bigger body.... making me lose all the time.. :(

I live in canada is there anywhere i can get agressive spiders like that?
if u live in canada... u can find those king of spiders in bushes...they only make their spider web during 6pm... and destroy their own web in the morning... so its hard to find spiders like that

what kind of spiders are those? First time I watched this was when I visited my grandmother in Baliwag. There was one kid who says he'd find me larger spiders for five pesos per spider. lol.
Yep, Here in Philippines, we let anything that moves for example lizard, beetle, cockroach, manny pacquiao.
me and my cousin from the philippines find spiders here at home, maui, hawaii. we fight them but they aren't as big as the ones shown in the video. i'd love to bring the sport here, if you know anything about it, pm me some info on raising them. thanks. :]
...the first spider looks strong and mean but it needs to lose a little weight...lol...anyway, before they fight spiders, they also match them, like leg/body size, it should be the same size...like in boxing too...train your spiders first before you fight it....at least 2 weeks...^_^

b4 putting ur spider into fight with same size or bigger, try let it fight a smaller one first, itll give ur spider fighting spirit lol

@iblinker182 I think everybody (well most) people here in the philippines arent afraid of spiders crawling on their arm heck i even let beetles crawl on my uniform when i find some in school its like a badge or something
I remember buying 1 for 20 bucks (pesos) and its really fun except when they fight its gonna take a while till it recovers and ready 2 fight again

lol some adults tried my best spider gladiator back when i was a teen, he bought it for 300 pesos! hahahah he sed he'll gonna use it to some spider derby fight

Why dont they bite you? i dont get it
we feed them with the losing spider, because sometimes the spider just end up covered by a web and eat them.we also put it in a plant full of insects and put it in a big jar.i lost my spider ones I CRIED!

i have a spider called "taga mais" red color, hairy body and long leged.. i have won 5 times but it died on the 6th fight..

hahah actually cuz most of the spider in america are poisonous but not rEally quite vicious, but in the philippines they are opposite, not venomous but super vicious, but not to their masters.

@martini9799 No, people in North Americans are just too scared to even touch it because they think they'll die if they get bitten. I've been bitten by these more than 10 times and shit didn't even left a mark.

@kipzaren Yeah, guess it makes sense. I saw someone who breeds tarantulas give the male the latest shed skin of the female to build his confidence before putting him with the male. I guess it worked because he got a sac out of it. X-D

My tarantula will destroy all of them. Then again, i'd rather let my tarantula enjoy living in its terrarium rather than putting him on a stick with another spider that doesn't have a clue that it's a goner

It's hard to find good spiders.
you can't allow camel spider or tarantula , other big spider to fight on the small one.. because is not even.. and plus is not part of the rule.. the rule is to fight on the stick.. if you gonna have camel spider. then fine.. get the big black scorpion .. let see who wins..

My spifer tear their ememy's legs when they fight anotger spider but too bad it got eaten by ants :(
