The explanation on how to get to Night Terror is extremely muddled as it is. Even Max didn't know if getting beaten by Zasalamel would let him fight Night Terror
I don't remember if there were any win conditions, but you had to follow a certain path, choosing the right prompts, without losing to get to Night Terror. The 2nd Zasalamel fight is safe to lose, and this path also helps unlock Olcadan
You have to follow a specific path in Tales of Souls. The path changes depending on what character you are playing as. You can't lose any fight, including any extra stages you may end up on, up until the final one before Night Terror, which you can lose on and still face him. Searched around and tested. These criterias I can personaly confirm, as well as having other sources confirm them. I wish I could post the path for every character but I don't think I can fit it all in this comment. However, they are online, like on the wiki, and all of them involves a lot of the second option.

If you couldn’t beat Night Terror, you had to walk the whole entire path again, so giving up was NOT an option. I'm starting to relive scarred memories of fighting this boss especially the unfair unblockable laser attacks, and his unfair immunity to ring-outs due to his wings.
And a certain vertical move we associate with Night Terror makes it's return as one of Inferno's moves and once again proves why Bandai-Namco made the right decision and made the rule that once unlocked you can only play as Inferno offline and banned him from online play and tournaments.

You actually can wish gameshark and the other thing like gameshark. btw, start with flying up and lasers and it ends almost any fight instantly. Also, you can use it as a discipline for Chronicles of the Sword. Even gives your custom character the wings.
I love those endgame bosses like Night Terror that you can’t even be mad cuz of just how ridiculously hard it is, like it’s designed to make you feel like you don’t have a chance, making your win sooo much more satisfying

With Abyss, Night Terror has a hard time with range attacks and stay on the edge of the ring so he can't side step them, though it took me quite a few retrys.

I've had times (mostly in the last 5 missions of Cheonicles) where the AI just sits there and waits for you to make a move, then imediately guard points it even if it's the fastest move in your kit like Nightnare's forward K
I remember trying to beat Night Terror for days. When I finally did I yelled "YES" & my hands were shaking like I just beat every boss in Dark Souls. I ONLY beat him once, when I was like 7 or 8.
I remember being so happy as a kid when I ringed out Night Terror for the first time. I thought that I finally deleted him, only to have my dreams crushed once he flew back on the stage. I still haven't defeated him.
Fun fact for that Midgar comment, originally Cloud was supposed to be in Soul Calibur II for the PS2 version. When that fell through they tried to get Dante. Imo, PS2 fans got shafted hard.

You also can't ring out a certain opponent. You'll know who it is because they'll be the only one not using their default weapon.

The no losing condition is only up to Olcadan. Some trivial info on Night Terror: Its' 6+G, 4+G, 3+G and 1+G guard impacts are always "perfect impacts". That means it can parry anything, including unblockables and grabs. 4+G is the same as 6+G and 1+G same as 3+G, no repel, just parry. Both Night Terror and Nightmare's Soul Wave (explosion move) when guard impacted, they won't be in a parried state. Instead they will simply be in their recovery animations. Best follow it up with your character's quickest attacks if you're in range. The initial animations on Night Terror's Soul Wave has a "guard impact all" attribute to it, just like its' fly up move (not the flying downward twirl attack, just the fly up move which acts as a stance move). At 10:33, that is its' greatest weakness. It is a single input move (44+B), so after the upper slash the high horizontal swipe is sure to come out. Crouch under it and punish with your while crouching or while rising attack.
So Night Terror is basically a demon with functional wings that will unleash a touch of death combo on you the moment you fail to do a move that isn't frame perfect. Speed runners will love this guy!
Exactly the same as Jinpachi from Tekken-you simply can't turtle up, too many unblockables and stuns. You have to start with a strong offense and follow it up with every opportunity. Namco developers have no idea how to design or program a balanced boss battle.
So glad that boss rage is still alive and still fairly entertaining... missed it very much, considering it's the reason I got into Max's videos in the first place.

I just realized that Night Terror's aerial moves (particularly his aerial dive) are borderline proto-Tekken 7 ( or is it 6?) Devil Jin.
Tekken 5 DJ had this eye laser, or rather, he got that later From SC3, afaik SC3 came before Tekken 5.
I never even knew this battle existed in the game. Given its frustration level, that's likely for the best.
