"What the heck is an OSRIC?" My exact words when I found this, quite some years ago, but haven't done much with it. Now back into gaming, bringing my kids in (finally old enough that they want to get past character creation phase, lol), and just ordered a hardcover. Was interested in poking around to see what people thought. I ordered it without reading in detail because I noticed a lot of the just plain really useful stuff from the 1e dmg is in there, and I prefer to have print versions. Having all in one book is an improvement over ordering all the reprints from wotc (still going to order Unearthed Arcana) and I don't have to wade through the Gygaxian prose - which as you said, I love it man, but good luck finding the rule itself in all that when you're in a hurry. And I swear by having two copies of the main player-facing rulebook on hand ever since I got an extra copy of Labyrinth Lord when mine was damaged in shipping, because inevitably more than one person will need it at the same time. I now make a point to have those extra copies whenever possible.
Nice to see someone is willing to review this. :) I purchased a lot of RPGs that havent been covered much by the youtube community and hoping to review them, you bet me to it! Dropped a sub!
I love OSRIC, it's a nice, tight system, easy to bring in new players and you can still use the classic supplements. I do recommemd getting the expansion to OSRIC as well, has good additions
love all the vids coming out. great as usual. I am an old school gamer and have never played OSRIC. Seems like a good read, I gotta check it out. thx for the review.
EXCELLENT review of an AWESOME game, in my opinion! OSRIC is a practically perfect representation of how the game (D&D) was played "back when"...and of course, is STILL now by so many! :) #RoleThruLife
Does Osric include the classes and rules from Unearthed Arcana or Oriental Adventures? Is the barbarian class as originally presented in Dragon magazine or the much altered UA class?

Expansion? The only other book for OSRIC that I know of is Monsters of Myth.
Another great review! This is the first published artwork that I did for the OSR. Lots of fun working on this stuff.

No, but others have done versions of the missing classes such as the Monk and Bard.
The Black Blade site just returns errors. Do they still offer an OSRIC hard copy?

Is the digest size the same as the full size, just truncated?
The digest size is the exact same content.
Almost seems like OSRIC is to 1e what PF is to 3.5.
PF? Yecch! But yeah, yer right.
Cool. Now if I could just get it for a comparable price in Canada
So OSRIC stands for Old School...what was that again? ww
Old School Reference and Index Compilation...take care!
