To be fair, half of the classic DMG is appendixes. The amount of appendixes in that book is such, that it's appendixes have their own appendixes! LOL I remember long ago in my youth, being fresh to the game, I thought DMs had to go by what was rolled on the random tables from the DMG and being a slave to the tables. I grew out of that as soon as I found out that was not a fun method at the game table. While I like making adventures out of while cloth, I find it easier to use stock elements pulled from modules as well as using random generators found in various books and online apps. They are simply tools and its nice to have a workshop filled with them.
