    Eberron is my favorite published setting.
    "Magic is Science" is a key element to how the world works, and why there's so much magical technology.
    Also the fact that everything is faction driven/motivated instead of alignment charts means there's more grey area for characters and enemies alike.
    Highly recommend!

      Absolutely! The official setting using Arcane Steampunk is awesome and you’re not wrong about the factions either! Makes political play and consequence highly entertaining for everyone -Jay

    I'm starting a new campaign set in Eberron and have been looking for something concise, yet precise that I can send to my players for educational purposes, and this fits the bill perfectly. This is an outstanding video and I am sincerely grateful to you for making it, good job!
    P.S. The thumbnail is a bit clickbaity with that "overrated" word splattered across it, but the video compensates for it.

    • @NorseFoundry
      @NorseFoundry  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is why we do it! That means that you can then dig into the deeper plot points and politics of Eberron as the GM but your players will have enough base knowledge! Really appreciate your words.

    Eberron has so much of its setting defined and fleshed out, and yet also has so much of its setting left as a blank canvas. And it does so in a way that really sparks a DM's imagination. Absolutely one of the best fantasy TRPG settings ever.

    I haven't played a campaign in Eberron, but the DM of my last game let me play a Warforged Artificer in his made up setting and was enjoying it a lot. Part of the character's back story was that he was "turned off" for centuries and I would uncover his past with the help of the DM.

    Definitely. I really like strong thematic stories. Been trying to weld together a political thriller and macguffin hunt. Set in Sharn. Captain American:Winter Soldier meets Indiana Jones. Maybe add some Maltese Falcon with a noir mystery.

    I dunno if I'd call Eberron bleak. It's more like living during the cold war. People are rebuilding but also many are preparing for the war to resume.

    • @NorseFoundry
      @NorseFoundry  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Cold War and threat of nuclear war is pretty bleak if you ask me 🤣

    Both this and the Greyhawk video are great introductions for new players. I am looking forward to a hopeful Dragonlance episode that I can show to future players of my games. It would be nice to have a short, quick and easy summary to hopefully get them interested!

    Eberron is in my opinion the best D&D setting. I would not compared it to Indiana Jones, since Indy is usually more associated the the 30s, and Eberron eels more like the 20s when the last war was not yet forgotten and the political landscape in Europe was rather instable. The MMO called DDO also used the setting, even though mostly the continent that feels more akin to Africa.

    • @NorseFoundry
      @NorseFoundry  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally understand! Keith actually used that as his description when submitting it to the contest he entered (I added the dystopian Mad Max). I think he meant less about the time period and more about the general feel and low magic “there’s no longer a spell for everything” concepts but you make great points! I’m a fan too! -Jay

      @@NorseFoundry as a player that will probably use this if I ever do will probe use this as a foundation for my own campaign.
      I will probably run it like a post Europe ww1 style of world.
      Ruined by war but its people spirit are strong and sees this as a world that now can be rebuild where what was ones wrong can be set right.
      where the saying was to fix this problem would require rebuilding the whole thing from scratch... well there was nothing left of the old so about that lets do just that lets rebuld it from scratch...
      the player jobs are to make sure the same mistake does not happen again, find old artifacts that was lost in the war, find the Shadow figure that some says was the cause of the great war it self.
      an early quest might be to get a water aqueduct working again, so that the farm might flourish. deal whit racketeers that prey on the refugees.
      unit long lost families. and so on... heck I might not even have a real big bad except for the shadows or whats left of it or more correct making sure that the shadows don't just slink away whit the gold, power or what it now was that they was after.

    Currently running an Eberron campaign for my players. Eberron has quickly replaced Faerun as my favorite DnD setting…actually Dark Sun is my favorite because I’m a sucker for post apocalyptic setting but Eberron is a very close second

    I'm currently reading through the book. This is my first Time using a campaign setting instead of one of the pre written campaigns. Its going to be fun, but I've still got to figure out where I'm going to go with it.

    I ran the first 4 adventures released back in the 3.5e days. I also set the Age of Worms adventure path from Dungeon Magazine in Eberron when I ran it. I have also run a few other published Dragon Magazine Eberron adventures. Hopefully soon I'll be able to run some adventures in the setting in 5e.

      @NorseFoundry I've played the alchemist artificer briefly as a DMPC and there is an armorer in an adventure I'm running off and on.

    I'm finished my first session in Eberron which is also a pirate adventure. I gave them a map for a lost treasure island and they're going to soon start their expedition. However because its eberron. They need to be careful with it. Others are looking for the same place too.

    The best setting for D&D hands down. I'm also biased because I am obsessed with the setting lol
    Great video, honestly. You forgot one SUPER imporat thing though. The Day of Mourning and the Mournlad. It is literally the heart of this setting. And of Khorvaire. lol

    Eberron divine magic comes fromthe clerics strong faith in something. Which could be one own self like the blood of vol teachs, it could be faith in atheism (drawn power from the very concept of nothinginess).

    You notice how everyone describes the setting completely differently from everyone else? I took a look at the book and all the regions kinda operate like every description I’ve heard and it makes me think everyone who covered this book just got like…a bit of it and I have to piece together the full picture from combining everyone’s descriptions

    • @NorseFoundry
      @NorseFoundry  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s such a massive undertaking to cover the entire setting! You’re probably right. My intent was to highlight a lot of things that make it completely different to other settings but I know I only skimmed the surface.

      Hey! If you own the book, there’s a 1st level adventure included set in Sharn. This should give you a good jumping off point for any campaign you want to run. You could also search out what you need here: www.adventurelookup.com/adventures/ if you want something completely prewritten 😁 hope this helps!

    Eberron blows and is a lazy Eurocentric world. I get it, most settings are Eurocentric fantasy but at least Forgotten Realms gives POC some sort of cultural representation even it is an amalgamation of different cultures.
    If I want to play a Persian/Middle East analog in FR, it's easy to find. Calimshan. If I wanted to play the analog of a Nigerian in FR, I could choose from the Shaar, Chult, or Sembia.
    Where are the equivalents of human POC culture in Eberron? Well, they basically gave those to Elves and Halflings. Meanwhile, European steampunk culture is widely represented on a whole continent. This is trashy even for 2002 standards. FR was created in the 1980s and seems to have better and wider variation on human cultures and they don't just get a generic European fantasy setting to attach their characters lore to. Deeply disappointed, Eberron needs to hire some POC and do better.

    Wow, glad I missed eberon. Sounds dumb AF. Hate warforged, artificers, shifters and changelings. DnD already had magic “as technology”.

      That’s the great thing about D&D; you can include or remove anything from your game to make it what you most enjoy!
