This show had so much; great music, a great presenter and obviously great football. It was 90's television at it's zenith, if only it and it's magazine show would return to Channel 4. The fact Elvis Costello can act as a pundit and "This week on Football Italia we have the best top of the table action since 'The Postman Always Rings Twice'" constitutes a typical line from James Richardson reflects the true measure of this great show.
Aah, wonderful runthrough of Italian soccer results with each half-time score accompanied by the title of an Elvis Costello song: Accidents Will Happen (for an own goal), His(!) Aim Is True, Less Than Zero, No Action, Oliverea's Army (brilliant), Good Year For The Rossoneri, and so many more!
Oh man! why did Ch4 can this for T4 and all that teen shit? used to love watching this on a sunday, vaguely remember Rawhide or Board Stupid was shown before the 1.45 match. One game that sticks out in memory was the match between Juventus and Perugia in 2000 with the water logged pitch. Going back further I remember the likes of Ravanelli, Zola, Vialli, Signori and who was that Juve defender who always got sent off loads? ahhh good memories!
the only thing thats good about the channel five coverage is the bird alongside chapman. bring back jimbo and football italia (the original channel 4 coverage)
I Think we will never see again a league such dominant and beautiful as that serie a ..neither the PL now is such beautiful now football is just filled with a bunch of mercenaries an mediocre players that wouldnt even make the bench in that seiria A...also the atmosphere in the english stadia dont ispire me anymore ..football has become an upper class affaire it seems basing on ticket prices and restrictions for the fans..i'd love to watch football Italia back on TV (even if will be Sky to broadcast) even just to enjoy Jimbo sitting at a cafe with a cappuccino and a pink sheet of "la Gazzetta delo Sport in his hands..
@childishbehaviour It was Paolo Montero... He is still my favorite player... Can't forget his punch right in the face of Di Biagio without any apparent reason... And when someone asked him: "why?" he said: "I'm just a bad guy!" He's been elected as one of the 50 Juventus' stars of all time. "Paolo Montero picchia per noi!" we used to sing at the old Delle Alpi in Turin... Good Old Memories... I didn't knew English people loved so much our (now decayed) Serie A. Well, decayed just like Italy =/
looool o my gd this takes me bak to my bromely by bow days in east london lol after primary skwl we just talk bout baggio, del piero shame luks like there leagues a shithole compares to what it was. theres no doubt this was the best league at the time
I remember this as if it was yesterday & excitedly calling my Dad (who was a big Costello fan) into the living room to see it. Happy days.

It’s turning into a good year for the Rossoneri.
I agree. This was my first exposure to Serie A.
