- LG G3 Troubleshooting and Repair Video Series (Part 2) for D850 D851 D855 VS985 LS990.
In this video we are going to show you how to repair the LG G3 LCD flickering, dimming and fading to black problem. This has become a large problem with this model in the past few months, where the LCD is actually fine but the phone works for a short time and then fades to black and will not come back on.

hha.
Quite easy.
Looks like all I need is:
1. good soldering iron (200$)
2. good hot-air station (100-200$)
3. a bit of flux (1-5$)
4. microscope(20-50$)
5. at least couple of months for training and 10-50 phones to try.
And then it is quite easy to reball and reflow a mainboard form your phone.
Cool! Will start right now!
Lol. I hear you. Just so you know, there are a lot of repair shops that watch our videos and use this knowledge to repair customer phones. The other purpose of these videos are to show consumers and end users which are experiencing these issues, that we are knowledgeable and very capable of repairing their phone. We are giving them a sneak peak into exactly what needs to be done to repair their phone. This makes most customers feel better knowing that they are sending their phone to a reputable and capable repair center. So we are here to help, if you need us: www.cellulardr.com/nationwide-mail-in-repair/

CellularDR definetly, i used to be a bench tech, cant see that well anymore, i have a lgg3 that doesnt rotate image unless you tap also needs to be reset to get gps and alot of other apps tp work properly, does this sound like its something you can repair or is it too far gone?
Nice detailed video. My LG G3 had this problem. I looked at other videos with possible quick fixes but none of them worked. This video seems to have isolated the real fix. However, it looks like it would be expensive to repair compared to what the phone is worth now. Thanks for making this video.
wonderful job but sir we dont have these things ur using
I have same problem with LG G2.... Life's Good with LCD screen fade to black. Thumbs up!
About 3 minutes in I started to look for the cheapest offer for a Samsung A5 2017..... My g3 was almost trouble free to this point, even though you could fry an egg on and I sometimes sprayed it with water to keep it cool. 2 years, 3 batteries and high intensity use it finally died. GG
Hi, first of all congratulations for the video, it helped me understand where the processor is =\ , I heated the top chip to 300 ° C and it stuck after that it did not work anymore, my LG uses the ELPIDA FA164A2PM chip. My question is what temperature should I apply so as not to damage the new chip? Thank you.
How much do you normally charge for making this repair?
I live in México, is there a chance I can send it to your offices? How much extra would be?
My phone has same issue but after few days it also started to random restart and then after one day it didn't even start not even respond to charging .I took it to a repair shop and he just heated the ic you replaced and phone started booting and then after one day again it shutdown and now it same again. If i heat the motherboard it startes but again same.So will my problem stop if i replace the above ic?
Omg this is exactly what happened to my lg stylo 6.. probably from the heat gun.. nooooooooo.. my new charging port works great install went flawlessly.. Sept I figure I went to close with heat gun.. can you do a lg stylo 6 repair? Is it easier then this particular phone in video?
Good Video~!! I enjoyed your video to fix the LG G3 SmartPhone as well. My earlier smartphone was LG G3 Cat6 which has a problem with the reboot loop phenomenon. How can I try to fix the smartphone? Please give me a point-tip. Thank you.
This video is overkill. For LG G3, you can try reflowing ram/cpu chip stack. It works much better on LG G3 than LG G4.
Great video. Any luck removing and reinstalling original top chips? Baking LG G3 pcbs at 320 degrees for eight minutes usually temporarily fixes the problem and reebaking fixes again. Shims help similarly upgrading from paper, credit card, dime, and quarter between failures. Curious if it's just the connections.
If i buy a new motherboard and install a heatsink will it stop this problem? if i manage to make it never overheat of course...
so doing this...will the phone be the same as before? will the data all be there or will it be like a brand new device?
Another question. Did you make balls with the soldering iron, on the chip that I received already there are balls in the taps, do I need to add the balls in the processor also or only those of the chip are enough? Thank you.
I have the same issue in my lg g3 but I donot have these equipments you are using .so the phone is no use to me
Excuse me master dram changed or reballing?
real solution.
no heating. a simple little circuit
@T4Dw
Hello how can I hire you to do some type of similar repair to my LG20?
That was surgery but doable. I wonder if it could have been a corroded solder joint or bad connection too. Too bad that this is one of the last phones one can open without unglueing with a heat gun. I keep opening and fixing mine over and over.
i like your video a lot..but where can I buy that chip? Hope you can reply to me...thank you very much.
watching like meditation, thanks
How much to have mine repaired? DO you ship international?
Hello. I received the chip that came from china and I intend to install but I have doubts. Do you use 430º C in all processes or only to remove the chip? Because I'm afraid to toast the new chip. I would like more information because it is the first of this type that I will change. Thank you.
Same freaking problem here. No more LG phones for me.
LG phones a great, my Samsung phone die waaaay faster and have much worse usability
@@JP-ne1ki Almost worth to fix it, it is a very good phone. I have a heat sink on mine. LG is out of the phone business though.
Where can I get that kit aka the tools u are using and the flux liquid
Hello, Thanks for making the video. My g3 suffers from this exact problem. My only question is, Would my phone be the same as far as software goes? Okay 2 questions..lol Would it require a software reprogram? Thanks
Yes, your phone software will remain untouched but if your memory is close to full we do recommend a reflash of the software for longevity.
I have a few questions regarding the LG G3.
I assume it's more expensive to have a phone sent in for repair over purchasing your refurbished units, correct?
The refurbished G3 phones for sale on your site have all gone through this process? Also, do you improve the heat sinks?
Outta curiosity, are there ways to upgrading these phones? Better processors, increased storage or RAM?
Finally, what version of Android do they have installed? Is there any way a customer can choose what they get? Is it possible to have root?
Thank you for your time.
Yes, it most likely is cheaper to purchase a replacement unit. As for the ones we sell on the website, they have not ever had this issue as it is not cost effective to repair this issue for the resale of the phone. Having said that we have installed heatsinks on all of them to keep the problem from happening. For your last question: no there is not a way to upgrade the hardware. Even if there was, this phone is overheating with this hardware, imagine how hot it would get with faster hardware.
Why didn't you use a reflow oven?
I had a lg G2 vs 980 verizon .. With the same .. Problem .. I like the phone but with flicking and shit! Couldn't deal it .. .. Also .. .. I have a LG G2 vs 980 verizon how much your Service to fix this Problem .. .. Thanks ...
sorry how much does this repair cost?!
My mobile powers on to the LG logo then goes Black screen, is this the fix video for that also?
Excellent video .. ..
Very helpful !! i have one question , why you changed the circuit and not just reinstall it again ?
My screen flickers and goes to black. How do I know if the chip needs to be replaced or will simply using the thermal copper tape from your part 3 video do the trick? Thanks from Mervyn in Australia
Mine is the LG g3 international version
It doesn't hurt to try the thermal tape and see if it helps. If it doesn't then you know you have to replace the chip
CellularDR Thank you, I will try that first. What's the material & tools cost to complete this repair including the chip replacement? I have an ifixit kit but that's about it. I'd love to fix the phone so I'd hate for the repair to cost more than the phone cost me (Second hand $100). Are normal phone repair shops equipted to do this type of repair if it would cost me too much in material. Thank you.
Hey, do you know of a repair service that could do this fix in London? Or anywhere in Europe?
What are my thoughts on the name of the chip ic faulty
Hi can u use an ic chip from an lg g3 beat on an lg g3?
Just throw the phone away and STAY AWAY FROM LG PHONES.
Russell Knight you forgot to mention buy a large micro SD chip and ONLY save precious data to it so you don't lose it, just xfr it to a new and better phone
@@DanzRdy Do you know that SD card data is not encrytped
Hi, my LG-D690 Stylus (LG3) does not receive ant GPS signals any more after a factory reset. I tried with GPS Test and TOPNTP 1.1 apps after rooting, but there seems to be no way to make it work. I guess this is not a hardware problem because GPS worked fine before the factory reset. What do you recommend?
Go back to the original software. and remove the root.
Thank you for replying. It was not rooted when it lost access to GPS after the factory reset. I guess what you mean is do another factory reset. This made me lose GPS. Are there other ROMS that I can flash?
Can you repair and ship the phone back? Would like to recieve a quote for the repairs.
Thank you
What is the screen chip or what chip. Let me take the correction. Please tell me with. Soon get your answer
Sorry don't understand your question!
Hi sir ,
I have the same lg phone but does not work because the power is got so hot and the phone boot n goes off immediately, so any solution for this problem .
?
Unfortunately, it is not worth fixing, but if you want to get your data out of the phone we do offer that service.
GOOD WORK...
My LG G3 (850) phone has this problem, and a no longer allows me ti get past the boot screen. I care little about fixing the phone for continued use, at least not enough to want to spend what replacing the chip would cost. But still I wonder, is there an easy and inexpensive way to unencrypt and copy the data from its internal storage to an external device? I had hope of recovering the data when I thought the problem was just an loose internal connection to the screen. But now knowing it is a chip that is far beyond my ability to replace is disheartening. Most of my data was backed up already. What remains on the phone is not worth paying a professional data recovery service to recover. But I am wondering if there is a free or inexpensive data recovery method I can attempt on my own? Phone has TWRP bootloader and Lineageos, in case that matters for the decryption.
(Would even something crazy like trying to boot with the phone under dry ice be feasible to keep the bad IC working long enough to copy the data? But then how to type my password with the screen submerged? This seems to me unlikely to work. But I am trying to think outside the box.)
My LG G3 has started showing this fade to black problem quite some time ago, and as I seeked alternatives to see the screen contents without relying on the screen itself as it faded to black and rarely comes back.
I found one (scrpcy) so now I can see the screen of the LG G3 in my computer. This software works through ADB, so you can use it through a USB connection or through the WiFi connection. The only requirements are Android 5.0 + and Developer Mode option USB debugging turned on, so if you still have your phone running stock ROM which is probably version 4 it will not work, but if you have Android 5+ and had already enabled Developer Mode and USB debugging it could work for you as it did for me.
Unfortunately I had the stupid idea of upgrading my Android version, got an Android 9.0 ROM and installed it through TWRP, and now I am stuck as I need the screen to work long enough for me to complete the initial setup and turn on developer mode and USB debugging but it keeps fading to back during boot and is not coming back. Anyway, if your Android version is 5 or more, make sure to check this tool as it can be useful in your case.
Haha buying a new motherboard even with more internal storage (60-70$) is actually cheaper than the professional installation of a new processor (111.74$) 😂😂
Probably true, but how do you know that the motherboard you are purchasing doesn't have the same issue?
I need some help- so I can't really afford to go get my phone fixed at the moment, okay so imagine one of those broken phones how it has different colors all over right? My phone is doing that but as if it where a transparent layer on a phone that's not broken, basically I can still see what's happening and all but just barely however what confuses me is when I turn on my phone it fades in but I'll have a second of it being normal (it fades in almost as if a screensaver however I don't have Screensaver and depending on what's on the screen sometimes almost all of the broken color thing will be gone, I feel like this is a fixable thing but I don't really know or if there are tips or something to help fix this? Anyways I'd appreciate any help on this especially because the phone this is happening to is important!
(btw my phone is a android)
GOD JOB BB
is it much better to fix it or just buy a new one?
It really depends on each situation. If you like the phone and want to buy another one of the same phone, then I definitely recommend putting the heat sink on it.
ı have LG G3. last night it suddenly started fading black. but while phone is still ON.i mean for example, im listening music from music player,, screen slowly fades black. but i can still change the songs with my muscle memory. while screen is pitch black. if i ock the screen and wait like 10 min, when i unlock the screen i can get normal screen like 15 seconds . and black screen again. so is it means my phone has same problem? or just a screen problem?
It is ic screen or ic source
Hi my lg g3 is not turning on at all and won't charge and is showing no signs of life. What could be the problem and I know u not psychic but moreorless what could the issue be? And it's not the battery
My lg k10 in same what can i do
The phone has to be replaced like that. Would you please specify the name of the replacement? Thanks
This is a repair video for the LG G3 phones that are experiencing the fading LCD Screen and the problem is NOT a defective screen and rather a defective IC Chip. I'm not sure what you are asking here though?
if I apply cigarette silver paper both side of processor?
How can i buy that chip, please?
I would like to courier my g3 to you. How can I go about in doing so?
Here is the link to the processor. Be sure to choose the professional installation option, then checkout and pay for it: www.cellulardr.com/lg-g3-processor-ic-chip-h9cknnndatmt/
Then use the shipping instructions to send the phone to us.
What about changing way
I had the same issue 2 years ago...had to replace the whole motherboard..seems the repair guy didn't know the issue was just with the ic and not the whole motherboards
Hi, how to solve half screen on LG G4 T-MOBILE?
Hello Sir. how do I know that my lg g3 have the problem with cpu chip set for flickering problem ?
Put it in the fridge
hi sir please reply me... how to fix LG G3 when i open my phone it only shows 0% battery even i charge it :( only 0% no logo or whatsoever so please help me with my problem :( :( :(
instead of flux, ill use kapton tape to keep the heat from the board.
oh yes, tape is much better. It will also keep the glue and solder mess from the components around the chip.
If I change the IC Chip (same model), do I lose my phone's data?
LOL. Do you really think the data is stored in the processor? Some people are just clueless.
@@Spuqui Underneath that chip, that silver thing you see is actually the processor.
but what is the new chip ?
I tried ... but it didn't last long ... I solved it by inserting a copper wire..curved by the current wire, flattened with a clamp, under the processor and slightly touches the metal protection of the processor above, from the part of the Vol down button. The copper wire that protrudes the most cut it ... otherwise it goes to piggle the keys .... creating es: temporary mode. Perhaps the flickering and / or darkening of the display is caused by an electrostatic charge. I solved it like this!
Can you please help me in my lg phone
Its normally turning on and turning off
After that it go to black screen
I think i erase some software
aint nobody got time fo dat
Is this Jesus Ramirez from Photoshop Training Channel?
Can someone do this for you I just want to know
mine turning into blue screen. What should i do .. ?
Nick Roelly your ssd chip is losing solder contact. It is on the other side so it gets a significant amount of heat from the cpu, as does ram.
the stock of mine is samsung K3QF6F60MM-QGCF will the H9CKNNNDATMT chip work with me ??>
No you have the LG G4, this is for the LG G3. Here is the link to the LG G4 processor you are looking for:www.cellulardr.com/lg-g4-top-processor-ic-chip-k3qf6f60am-qgcf/
No no man i have the lg g3 d855
my lg is a g3
Match up the part numbers. We have noticed recently that LG seems to have used a different chip on the international version of the LG G3. If your phone has the K3QF6F60MM-QGCF chip then you need to use this chip:

my lg aristo 3 screen on flickering RILLY Bad
Thanks for the informative video. but LG's phones are horrendous in terms of internal design and quality.
How is a bad H9CKNNNDATMT(SK Hynix) LPDDR3 memory block responsible for screen flickering (if RAM is bad = no boot, and lg stock recovery would try to dump RAM state for low level debugging/troubleshooting ). .........
the ram chip isnt bad. the problem is just that because of constant overheating, the solder detached and the problem could be fixed just by putting pressure on the chip so that the solder reconnects.
i bet that ram chip is not hot-swappable = kernel will go into panic state after first contact loss (but os runs fine) ???
CheapDeath96 for some reason the os runs fine but graphics get messed up. Letting it cool a bit will shrink the chip a bit so it will touch the solder again. I fixed mine just by putting pressure using a metal piece which i put in the phone.
i will try (but when you disconnect ram it loses power and information stored, ram is volatile type of memory, so linux kernel, modules and drivers gets corrupted on first power loss = os cant run anymore!!(this is why i feel like its not ram problem)).
Thats true but remember, only a few pins lose contact so the chip doesnt lose power. I can confirm it is ram solder problem as thats what im wrestling with on my unit haha. I dont have the tools to fix it permanently and so far the best solution i managed to do is a thin thermal pad and a metal piece to put pressure. After a while the edges of ram dig into the pad so it doesnt put enough pressure anymore. and the metal piece isnt flat enough (or wide enough, idk) so that doesnt put enough pressure where it needs to.
LG: _"Lots (of) Garbage"_
cellulardr.com ship to brazil?
Sorry we do not ship to Brazil.
ok, thanks.
bem que podia!
Very difficult
tankas 😍😍😍
You're welcome.
I find this video interesting and informative for my phone, but seems that Lg phones are like GM trucks. They look nice and work for a few years, but because they are made of crappy parts, you realize you paid too much for a " flash in the pan. " 😕
That is what my lg g3 does!!!
please can lg g4 sreen work on g3
no
Guess on what fading screen phone im watching this video LOL .... Plz help..
Top processor and bottom processor???? There is no such thing! The top chip is ram chip (k3qf6f60am-qgcf samsung LPDDR3 3GB), and bottom chip is the qualcomm processor.
Sorry i am vietnamese. So english poor. Just help me in the video you have replaced what is ic.
Look at the title of the video and you will see the part number. Also inside the video there are links to the part.
actually I don't have materials
thats a ram
Not worth the effort and time, rather just get a new phone
