That's disappointing to hear about Blencarn, I almost went there the other day but ending up on the River Eden where I had a great day. What put me off Blencarn was the prices going up, it used to be a reasonable £15 for 5 hours C&R but its gone up to £20 now which is ok but the lake can blow hot and cold and the thought of £20 followed by a blank put me off. I have heard it said by the local regulars that the lake is under stocked, I don't know if that's true or not but given what you read in the catch returns, I have to wonder.
I've been fishing Blencarn since the mid. 80's, and as you so rightly stated the backdrop and surrounding vistas are a joy on the eye. Myself and my partner who also fishes the fly (very well) have noticed the same, lack of surface activity. We have also wittnesed transporting behaviour by some so called anglers spinning and using bubble floats. Unfortunately these activities will only add to the demise of this lovely peace of water.. it not being policed means it is open to those who wish to flaunt the rules of the lake. I to was a bit startled. At the price hike, we never kill any fish and make sure the fish are unhooked in the water. Many thanks for screening your video. & many tight lines elsewhere.. Well according to the man at Bessy beck who supplies their fish he said that they have had 300 this year so what's happened to them? Regards Rod
