Hi brilliant vid , had a look up there today and it looks great met the lovely couple who run the fishery who gave great advice and knowledge of the lake ,can I just ask what type of rod , reel, line leader did you use , sorry but I have been out of fishing for awhile so bit unfamiliar with what’s being used these days ...cheers
Hi my choice of tackle is a lot lighter than most, 9-5 to 11foot rods 2-4 weight lines but I like strong leaders about 8lb . If you check out some of my Hury videos for more information. Regards Rod

Hi Roderick, a tremendous help to line up patterns for the Long legs. Appreciate it if you could remember what that gray- brown saddle title is- would it be a Herbert Miner, or a Metz in dark gray dun? A fabulous general saddle. Hi sorry I think it is Metz but I purchased those feathers at least 30 years ago. I have the same brown -gray in Whiting's feathers, chose not to show them because the cost is going sky high, and I did not want to put fishers of due to price. My fly tying materials has taken me 50 plus years to build up. I appreciate your post a lot, regards Rod
@@roderickwalker491 Hi Roderick, I would be in the same position, and 53 years dressing. It brought back a memory of using a grey brown similar/ same hackle as a general wing/ legs on many fly patterns. I found a Whiting HM Pro gray cape, not quiet right, but I suspect the saddle may be darker and more balanced. I am going to look in to this further, especially with hen cape applications and see what is out there. Thank You for activating a common sense memory.
I like your technique for tying in the legs,they are tricky at the best of times. Will definitely try this when I next tie a few daddies. Thank you for the tip.

Nice little ripple on the Lough perfect for dibblin a team of wets.one of the places I always wanted to fish it's a long drive from south of Ireland, it would make a change from fishing Corrib and Mask that are not fishing as good as they used to. Tight lines. Pat Kennedy.

You must of just caught the end of the trout season 👍 To avoid confusion, Ullapool is in Ross-shire. Where you were fishing, close to Elphin is Sutherland. You should try and make the Elphin chicken races next year if you can. Always a laugh. Suprised you don’t stay at Altnacealgach or at the Oykel.
I like Ullapool as a base more choice with eating out I find the roads are a joy to drive so l do not mind a few miles, and if the mood takes me I can fish some of the lochs South of Ullapool. Best wishes Rod

We would refer to the inflatable boat as a tender. There’s lots of makes. For sale at boat chandlers. Normally towed behind a bigger vessel like a yacht.
@@richardwilliamson3624 Hi yes and no it is a craft in its own right, there's lots of cheap ones on the market but they will develop air leaks and other problems. I was told by the company that I got my motor from that Honda was one of the best . Regards Rod

@@roderickwalker491 I fished yesterday at thrunton long crag , all the anglers were saying how cold it was , it was around 4 degrees, I wasn’t feeling it at all Probably because am over weight ha good interesting video hope you keep them coming, heard hury has fished fantastic this year I’m yet to go but I shall definitely make it next year more intrigued after watching this , thanks rod tight lines 🎣

Well I’m off to Hury next week to get myself a trout to gravlax. The ‘here’s one I did earlier’ looked really appetising. Bet it’s good with scrambled eggs, in a seafood risotto, or just with prawns in a sarnie. Great vid, thank you. 👍

@@roderickwalker491 Looking forward to that. I think Hury is now ‘any method’ for the rest of the season because Grassholme is closed due to some problem with the lodge. P.S. Pin boning is a right faff, and chavels the flesh. I wonder if it is easier to pin bone after curing when the flesh is firmer ?

The flies just drift but if I think that a fish is close by I will give a short pull that can work to trigger a take. Regards Rod

Unfortunately bin loads of rubbish will be left by some. Many bait fishers are super skilled but a few spoilt things for the majority. Regards Rod

Hi rod,fished hury today,got two nice fish,4lb and 3.5lb lost another nice one all from reedy point one on Dawson's and the others took a red booby on the washing line, couldn't get a pull anywhere else,water very low and according to the warden they're gonna drop it another 10 meters!!!, lots of bait anglers on, next year for me now, hope this helps regards

Here on the River Wear, we are expecting in the next 4 weeks, the very best season for fly fishing Sea trout. With the rain downpour yesterday, the rivers getting a good wash through at the moment. Have you any hints or tips, or any plans for another fly fish sea trout video?
Hi I had at the start of the year a lot of sea trout fishing videos planned but thanks to the weather it did not happen. I wanted to do a few on night fishing, I like to prove what I say works I needed stable warm weather for a few days to stand a chance of showing a fish or two after dark. Thirty years ago a poor night was two fish and this was fishing cheap ticket water. As for tips have a look at some of my wet fly videos. I hope you get some sport. Regards Rod

For your night fishing or specific day time sea trout fishing, would you use your 3# weight or would go longer and larger? At the moment I'm no where near your gear set up. I’m intending to use a 8'6” 4# fly rod or a Spey type 12'6” 7#, both with floating line, intermediate leader (to much weed for sinking) and I’ve never gone lower than a 8lb tippet? and various flies. I’m looked at your excellent wet fly videos, keep up your good work. Much appreciated Regards
Hi rod just got my shimano xr fly rod 10ft wondered if you had ferrules longer than wrapping binding.nice stiff action for a 3 weight .Very interesting that ferrules dont meet up to each other bit amusing .
Ferrules are often like that, to allow for wear , do not ram them tight rub with a candle to help stop them from sticking. You have a good Rod. Regards Rod

My wife and I are just back from a week in Morvern.. We had torrential rain and gale force wind to start, then blazing sunshine. So not a lot of fish caught. We enjoyed the sun though and the Highlands are always the best place to be.

For me and you the issue is that we do not have an unlimited life span to get a week when the weather is just okay, so many holidays have been spoilt by freak weather. Regards Rod
