Ani's music has been a constant companion in my life since I discovered her music when I was 20 (15 years ago). I remember listening to her living in clip album and the lyrics in "in or out" hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm eternally grateful for her music and how inspirational she has been by starting her own label and making her own way. Love you Ani.
I've been listening to you, Ani since 1992, when a friend introduced me to your first album on the way to the mall after school. Almost 30 years later, and I always remember who I really am when I listen to your songs. Thanks for always making this insecure find her inner Phoenix in the ashes. Much love, Sister from Rochester. Namaste
My older brother bought me Ani's "Not a Pretty Girl" CD back in 1995 and I was instantly blown away. I played it over and over again until I knew all of the lyrics of every song. Later I bought "To The Teeth" and "Up,Up,Up,Up,Up" and there's still soooooo many albums of hers that I need to hear, 25 years later. Ani is so full of passion, and her lyrics make you really think.....I mean REALLY THINK about things you've probably never really thought about before. And her guitar playing? I still get chills hearing her fingers squeak on her guitar neck on the intro to "Sorry I am". I absolutely ADORE Ani.
Back in the mid/late 90s, a friend of mine and I had a Game " invent a situation that Ani doesnt have a Lyric for'. "Angry Anymore' was my wife's Dance with her Dad at our wedding. WIFIEPOO wasnt a fan of yours.... but that Song just hit ALL the right notes for what she WANTED to say to her Dad....in that moment. Heck I've used a couple of your songs to express emotions to my partners.... friends ,etc. This new song..... was what I needed right Now.... Thanks Ani. For being the Words I struggle to speak and sometimes even think about.
"Albacore" was my wedding song. We got married in our home which is located in a Douglass Fur forest, so it just felt right. PS, that's a great game, I think I might play that one. :)

I’m so thankful to find others who feel her like I do - I feel so alone during this past year - I try to connect with others with her music and yet I just get made fun of - so thank you, really. 🖤

THIS IS THE MUSIC I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! This is the great art that comes out of times of political and social and civil unrest and I am super here for it!
Every time I listen to Miss. Ani it fills an emotional\mental need for me at the time. What ever it Is. Joy, empathy etc. I found little plastic castle at around 15. And it just skyrocketed my interest. My first tattoo was a rightous babe on my bicep. Just to remind push over me to stand up for myself. Turned 39 this month. Age doesn't bother me much. But change does. lost a dear friend to suicide lat feb. Covid hit. My father spiraled into severe dementia. What a long strange trip it's been. Umm... Life is strange. Take it as it comes right!?! Smile, nod, belt along with Miss. Ani and repeat as needed! Thanks so very much!
❤❤❤❤❤THIS 🎶🎶🎶The organ on this piece is 🔥....Yesssss. LIVE on @CBSthisMorning (Saturday) 2/20/21 was like a delicious hot slice of sweet potato pie....DELICIOUS. 🎶
I’m a huge Ani fan! But also a musician I notice she uses this chord progression so much. Does anyone else kinda wish she wrote some more complex progressions or didn’t rely on this so heavily for several songs on every album?
What I’ve noticed with the progressions as well as the lyrics in the last few albums is that she doesn’t really care...in the sense that she just goes with what comes out even if it’s repetitive or base. She doesn’t try to elevate anything or complexify anything. Perhaps this is her signature and everything she does is just meditations on a theme.
I came here because I could have SWORN I'd heard Simultaneously before, like it was a rerelease or something. Perhaps it's just that it's a familiar chord progression!!! Not bothered by it but relieved to know I'm not crazy lol
this is amazing...long time fan! though, if you watch the dare devil Banff Mountaineer films, freedom definitely does not require safety (in a traditional sense) !
you are a prophet of love ani! thank you for being so amazing and creating eternally! my sister rachel and i appreciate you and all you create so much. my sister says you are bob dylan reincarnated and i agree. your message is poignant and we need to continue to teach that dumb world 50 % of us basically that we live amongst. so thank you you beautiful creature. xoxo
I fell in love with Ani's music when I was a teenager who couldn't fit in the world as it is. I keep tel stenting and rediscovering and recently discovered the newer albums. Listening to this song, in curious to know why she/you (Ani, are you reading this?) chose to use the word 'dumb'. I read an interview with a disability activist and I was wondering if the two of you had ever talked about the subtle ways ableism creeps into our everyday language. Dumb is often used as a put-down, often with the flavour of low-intelligence. Someone who cannot speak, who is mute, is also known as dumb. The use of it as a put-down is similar to saying, "That's gay" when you really mean, "that's not cool" or "That's not good enough". I wonder if this is new information to you, or if this knowledge informed the word choice.
I was thinking the exact same thing, but in the video she points her thumbs down at that spot, like bad in a way. Although ‘dumb’ as in speechless one could interpret as- > outer world is quiet (i.e. when bad things happen). Both kind of make sense. I’d be interested in Ani’s meaning… Cultural Studies brings me here;)
