The voice chemistry between Kurt and Dave is just stunningly beautiful.
Amen
Hear hear
Dave should make a good dad band
@Andy Holden thats just effed up man
@Riley Larson probably a good guy to be a friends with
The harmonies between Kurt’s voice and Dave’s give me goosebumps
You should listen to Alice in Chains
Jerry and layne compliment each other more
Música boa
yeah, if you like that you'd love Alice in Chains
deleted 831 I already do ! Cmon ;)
Dave and Kurt’s voices together harmonised so well though…I’m glad Dave started his own band.
Hi I Recommend checking out a song Called 'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
What's his band called?
@@haseebwt foo fighters
I used to think that was really nice harmony as a kid even before I realized Dave made the foo fighters after this. Nirvana and the Beatles and Green Day were probably my first 3 bands I listened to when I was about 12. I remember I had a target gift card and bought this unplugged dvd and loved it but it’s so full of sorrow, gotta be one of the most emotional performances of all time
U can't even put foofighters and nirvana in the same category...it's just disrespectful. That's like comparing Lane to Justin Beiber lol. But I agree beautifully done together
It’s like Dave always knows the role he needs to play. No more. No less. Love him.
That's incredible important when you play in a band!
He did the rythim for Nirvana. There's such a thing as "overdrumming" over overplaying the baseline.
In his book he talks about how he had a bad habit of doing way more with the drums than he should have been lol
@@gennakale yeah isn't there a story about this exact performance where Kurt was pissed that he wasn't using the brushes to be less?
The drummer guy is a great singer. He should start a band.
Foo Fighters
Victor Manz wooooosh
@@james_slash876 uh huh
He also would look better with some mustache and beard
Ya. He did
It took me years of practice, but i finally mastered the drums on this song.
Well done bro 👍
LOL nice one
Lol
Only years? I PRACTICED FOR DECADES AND I STILL CANT PLAY IT!
what the gunk thanks for the obvious man
The Dark Story Behind "Polly"
The song "Polly" by Nirvana is about a 14 year old girl who was kidnapped in '87 as she was leaving a concert at the Tacoma Dome. Her kidnapper was a sadist named Gerald Friend. He took Polly at knifepoint, and brought her back to his place where he sexually assaulted and tortured her. Some of the items he used against her included a hot roller, a razor, hot wax, a leather whip, even a blow torch. When Gerald was done with the girl he bound and gagged her, then loaded her up in his car and took her for a final ride. Thankfully he did not plan this part out very well, Gerald had to stop for gas. At this time the brave young girl saved her own life. She freed herself and ran into the gas station, escaping her would be killer.
And yes, pretty sure he would have killed her. "Polly" was not Gerald's first victim.
Back in 1960 Gerald gave 2 hitchhiking siblings a ride. It was a 12 yr old girl and her brother. Gerald pulled a gun on the brother and made him get out of the vehicle, then he drove the girl to an isolated park. Gerald beat this girl, sexually assaulted her, he even cut her hair. She finally escaped by jumping in a lake and swimming until she got help.
These two victims survived their encounter with Gerald Friend. Police believe he has other victims who may not have been so lucky- including 2 murdered Tacoma girls in 1987.
Gerald was convicted of the torture and rape of this 1st girl and was sentenced to at least 75 years, but he was instead paroled in 1980. Allowed to walk free and plot his next attack.
For what he did to "Polly", Gerald was charged with rape, torturing and kidnapping- again. He was sentenced to another 75 years.
.
Kurt was disgusted and so he wrote this song, it's showing awareness. What's sad is that a group of boys gang-raped a young girl while singing this song to her.
.
.
Nirvana played some benefits to help rape victims, including the “Rock Against Rape” concert in 1993, which raised money for a women’s self-defense organization.

Its weird how when thst guy said "rape me" and Kurt said "mtv wouldn't let us play that" but they let them play this song
I mean it isn't as much in your face I guess especially if people didn't know about or remembered the case
This one is not so explicit, but I see your point tho
Kurt Cobain Behind Blue Eyes. th-cam.com/video/TT27KdVUzNE/w-d-xo.html
because its sugar coded. The meaning isn't as grounded. Technically, the song can just be about a bird. But rape me can't be interpreted in any other way. Still, they should've been able to play whatever they wanted to.
hahah he actually wrote rape me because he was annoyed people didn’t understand what polly was about. that’s why rape me is so much more literal and explicit, he was tired of people not getting what he was saying.
i wish we got to experience kurt and dave vocals together more
Replay button will do.
Most of their album recordings had both vocals in the mix, so anything that sounds harmonious on record is generally with Kurt and Dave.
Courtney did it th-cam.com/video/in-BUrAmO6g/w-d-xo.html
I gotta meet Kurt back in the 90s and I was there when they filmed this I was AND STILL AM A FAN OF NIRVANA I even have a poster signed by Kurt and the entire band
as Rejected Gamers said, they're all over the place
if you wanna hear them individually, check out Recording Nirvana with Butch Vig, where he plays the audio tracks from nevermind seperatly and tells little stories about the recordings
Nirvana was just the best grunge band ever.
Anabel Vasconcelos ehhh Alice in chains were more skilled on their instruments and composed some of the greatest music of all time
Best band*
Vector OH YEAH nope
Matt M aight your entitled to your opinion
Vector OH YEAH alice in chains was more talented but personally I enjoy nirvana just a tad bit better mostly bc they were my first favorite grunge band alice in chains is a close second tho
I always knew this song was dark but when I found the story it was inspired by it got a whole lot darker. Only Kurt could've pulled this one off so brilliantly.

My favorite version of "Polly". Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
I heard this version first, and it spoiled me forever for the studio version. Every Unplugged album is top notch. I wish Curt had had time to do a dozen more unplugged specials, 20+ albums, and time to see his daughter grow up. ❤️
The harmonies of Dave and Kurt are so nice to hear 🤩
John- Am i joke to you?
What a time to be alive .. I was 19 when Nirvana released Smells Like Teen Spirit and music was changed in a big way. I just adore them, such a good band, all so talented and Kurt, my God, he was just born to be a star, an artist through and through.
I love you
This is by far the best live performance from Nirvana. Not many artists deliver such a brutal story so gracefully
Always love how Kris play the bass. He's like live in his own world
Unpopular opinion: nirvana needed krist doing his thing. The absolute glue.
Such a beautiful human being 🤍
@@sjt3372not unpopular I think. He’s great.
This is the best version of polly, Dave's harmony vocals made this song flawless
We’re still listening Kurt 😢
Th3_0nlin3_ G8m3r Finally understand the lyrics. I never did really. I was just entranced by the melodies and artistry. But I guess unless you’re following the Prince of the Air it’s probably natural you would not realize or understand. I just treated it as creativity. Like everything else. Did most people really take all they had consumed from their black TVs and LG plasmas as a primer and design for life and live it out and spiritually die? Is that what happened here? Did Tarentino make you lose your mind? Did the Power Rangers harden your heart and you took it just very seriously and now you’re trapped in darkness and paying the price? I don’t understand. Why couldn’t you separate fiction and fantasy and life itself? Why did you ever think the insensitive, cruel and abusive could teach you how to live just because they articulated it in a seemingly charming way? Maybe the entire world was a social construct all along. The mass deception does seem highly organized. But if it wasn’t did everyone sleepwalk into darkness because they exalted themselves in their own imaginations because of the narcissism taught by our society?

this song is a masterpiece, the perfect example of kurt's geniuses.
i remember watching this on MTV the first airing... still, in my opinion, the best unplugged show ever aired.... this show allowed nirvana to showcase the fact they were musically talented, not just distorted guitars and screaming. (although i loved all of that too lol.) Its a shame we never got to see what would happen if they'd been able to continue on and Kurt didnt die. I think it would have been amazing to watch him change with time.
"you know you're right" was the last song they recorded together and was the first song they recorded for what would have been their next album. It's one of my favourite Nirvana songs, but it fills me with sadness to wonder at what could have been.
Kurt and Dave's voice are so amazing together, really love the harmonies.
Agreed! I’m so glad I found this, being a foo fighters fan and nirvana fan. Especially as someone who wasn’t alive when nirvana was around, youtube videos and recordings are all I can experience of nirvana
I've never tapped so quickly. It amazes me, the will of instinct

I'm an audio engineer by trade. I soundtrack storyboard podcasts and audiobooks for a living. I know that doesn't necessarily mean much and doesn't make me an authoirty, but the one thing I've noticed about this song and EVERY version of it is it that it's slower than your ear wants it to be. Just slightly. It creates that drag...that suspense...it's just so damn good
you are very right! it's almooost off beat......
Yup. Every time I've played it on guitar my fingers want to automatically pick it up a bit...add some pace to it. It just doesn't sound right when you do though. I like Kurt's pacing. It's fitting👌🏻
That's a great point. It's seems to be something that is lacking in modern music that is made on computers
Was never a huge Nirvana fan but this is what Kurt was meant to do. His incredible talent comes out more when doing acoustic.
Why come to a nirvana song just to say, “nirvana isn’t your favorite”?! Great, now go away. Let people enjoy what they enjoy no one cares if something ISNT

I love to hear a combination of voices from Kurt and Grohl.

[Verse 1]
Polly wants a cracker
I think I should get off her first
I think she wants some water
To put out the blow torch
[Chorus]
Isn't me, have a seed
Let me clip dirty wings
Let me take a ride, cut yourself
Want some help, please myself
Got some rope, haven't told
Promise you, haven't true
Let me take a ride, cut yourself
Want some help, please myself
[Verse 2]
Polly wants a cracker
Maybe she would like some food
She asked me to untie her
A chase would be nice for a few
[Chorus]
Isn't me, have a seed
Let me clip dirty wings
Let me take a ride, cut yourself
Want some help, please myself
Got some rope, haven't told
Promise you, haven't true
Let me take a ride, cut yourself
Want some help, please myself
[Verse 3]
Polly said
Polly says her back hurts
She's just as bored as me
She caught me off my guard
Amazes me the will of instinct
[Chorus]
Isn't me, have a seed
Let me clip dirty wings
Let me take a ride, cut yourself
Want some help, please myself
Got some rope, haven't told
Promise you, haven't true
Let me take a ride, cut yourself
Want some help, please myself
I read a tiny bit about this incident as it was mentioned on Kurt's wikipedia page but I feel like I still don't get etc lyrics of this song. But then again, I'm not even a native english speaker
The feeling of being carried through the disjointed and deranged thoughts of a truly disturbed individual in the middle of a horrific act (don't want this comment to get removed by TH-cam so not elaborating more) is such an emotional experience to experience though music
Does Dave say different lines cos some of the words sound different to Kurts which makes sense if it’s form the perspective of 2 people
@@rustybench3334 They might have had to change some lyrics for MTV to allow them to play the song. I swear they sing "hurt yourself " instead of "cut yourself" and "help myself" instead of "please myself" during the chorus.

yea it's about a 27 year old man that raped a minor. So the song is told in the perspective of the predator. To bring awareness to society about why its sick to educate woman in how to defend themselves rather than targeting the people that want to harm.
@@su_noble.corcel how you gonna target them before they actually commit an act? There's nothing sick whatsoever about educating women on defending themselves.

I lived through the 60''s-70's, the era of supposedly 'good' music. Take it from me NO band ever came close to Nirvana or to Kurt as their frontman. He and Nirvana were always in a class of their own and always will be. Unique. (spoken as a 72 year old lover of great music!)
Music mostly stopped being good after the 2000s, I mean there are still some really good bands like foo fighters, muse and ghost but like most of the music industry now is trash rap and pop

When I first heard Dave sing during this performance, my ears perked up and wasn't surprised at all that he took on the role of lead singer a few years later.
“Stop teaching women to defend themselves… instead teach men not to rape…” KC.
Kurt really made up for his lyrics with emotion and incredible melody, god what a hero
Sometimes just jotted em down randomly before recording lol. Was all about the music first before the lyrics, he could write a melody even if he didn't know what he was doing. Had a great ear.
Made up for his lyrics? Kurt was imo the best writer of our entire generation along with Elliot Smith.
And definitely had the best ear for melody along with Smith.
