    Tara is an unconventional female lead. Women are never allowed to be THAT flawed in Bollywood. And I've absolutely loved the writing behind her character.

      I watched that scene like 5 times and still can't be over it. It takes guts to leave a marriage like that and the narration in the background makes the scene a bliss to the eyes.

    About the hypocritical aspect, I felt it was a strength of the series because humans are of dual nature and by addressing it the series has aptly presented inner conflicts of the lead characters. A nice review nevertheless

    • @anunaaddalvi7533
      @anunaaddalvi7533 5 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      I don't even consider it as hypocritical. When the 22-year-old has already done something she realises she should not, the lesson is learnt. Her guilt and body reactions show it. Going against her, and destroying her life, when she has determined to make it right by her fiancè is something positive.
      In the second example, where the girl in Ludhiana stays married to the NRI, is clearly her choice. Her lack of choice of men is her true tragedy, and the protagonists give her a choice there, and she herself chooses to go with him, choosing the lesser evil.

    • @sukanyaparashar9474
      @sukanyaparashar9474 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Exactly! Literally every single charecter (besides Kabir) had fucked up majorly, done something bad, and yet did such amazing things that it was impossible to hate them. People seem to hate Tara, but I love her. There's nothing better than complex, morally grey, REAL charecters

    • @maxmess1234
      @maxmess1234 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I politely disagree. There is a difference between hypocritical characters and grey characters. Grey characters are imperfect and don't always abide by what we think is moral or ethical. Hypocritical characters contradict themselves at different situations, this leads to the audience not understanding who the protagonist really is.

    The morality flaw you mentioned is flawed I feel. All the character action is based in the situation/moment they are in, or what the character is going through. When Karan screams at the mehendi girl, he has gone through a horrible experience in jail and his repression is projected on that girl to do something whereas when he tells the drunk bride who is puking to forget and get married. In that situation it’s a perfect solution for her to keep the wedding going on and that falls in his morality compass of certain things people should not know about you as he is the same- dishonest and hiding his identity. I feel it’s a brilliant and well written show. A benchmark for Indian content and something I’m glad so many people will be exposed to in India.

But when I was watching Made In Heaven I didn't even think about the skip button. There are many shows which have worked around the LGBTQ+ concept but none of them could match the execution of Made In Heaven. Intriguing, cunning and literally one of the best Indian web series across any platform.

    In the second episode, the narrator has this hard hitting line in one of his monologues, that one can easily miss out on. It goes something like this
    "... *What's not so interesting is that, apparently all it takes is cooking and praying* ..."
    I just can't emphasise enough how good this line is! It directly attacks the patriarchy deep ingrained within the society, irrespective of social status, place of upbringing and level of education. Of how women are reduced to only pray and cook for the males.

    The second point in "not so good" where you mention that a new marriage project is a road blocker to character development, I think you missed an important aspect. I agree every new project was taking away the attention of the viewer but so was the point. It was stealing the attention of center characters from their lives and added the depth in showing their frustration of juggling back and forth from their own issues to other's issues. In one of episode, karan also rants if we can just do our work lights camera catering and not get involved in anything else.

    I have watched a couple of episodes from this series so far and I have to say, I really like it so far. But I do differ in opinion from you as regards the hypocrisy and fleshing out characters points.
    All the characters seem to have a moral compass which is at least slightly skewed. I might not agree to every way 'Tara' convinces the brides but then being a go-getter businesswoman as you described her, I don't think visions of a very successful marriage for each of her couples is what she is looking for. She is looking to complete the wedding she is engaged to complete, get the appreciation, pay and get out of there. I doubt she would be very successful if she brought out peoples' conscience to do what is right rather than what would work right now.
    As regards how we see only glimpses of the main characters' back story, that I believe is way better than investing a major part of an episode in their story. Many shows on TV just go astray with too much importance being given to the main characters and the basic story line (in this case -wedding planning) taking a backseat.

    I completely agree with the first point.. levels of hypocrisy... I understand sometimes you stand for something and sometimes you don't.. but in the last episode- where they help the bride escape the wedding.. Sorry to disagree with your term hypocritical aspect. This show is based on pure human reflections on certain issues and perspectives to see the layers of social dilemma. This show honestly depicts the morale aspects of being human. Every character has their Grey sides and demons. To achieve success or being accepted in the society, even the major characters did things that they are not proud off. Still they indulge to those situations where things went crazy such as rape attempt, hiding the fact to save a marriage, going to press or kidnapping the bride. On other occasions where the victim or individual accepted their fate, they watched from Distance with a heavy heart like the small town girl got married with an impotent and self obsessed NRI, girlzilla bashing their stuffs and all. This show perfectly portraits the uncertainty of this hypocrite society. Sometimes we get justice and mostly not. At the end of the day only true friendship survives while family gave up. In my opinion this show should be celebrated just like the other popular shows like mirzapur, the family man or sacred games.

    I agree with your take on Kabir's character. It made the narrative more layered, and at the same time, sort of bridged the gap between the outsider and the insider.
    I also think that the failure of the main protagonists in acting out some of their beliefs in certain situations is not a flaw in the film-making, but an attempt to point out the inherent flaws in people. It is hypocrisy, for sure. But that was the message- the intrinsic hypocrisy in the value systems of people. For instance how Tara stands against dowry, while herself being someone who plotted her marriage for reasons including financial stability and strata.
    Lovely video! Do Ship of Theseus!

    Yes yes yes....I was also baffled by how their moral compass fluctuates...like how Tara behaves with her mom and sister when they show up unannounced to Adil's factory....and then how she was a nice daughter and sister, a couple of episodes down. But having said that ...it's a nice and engaging show.

    • @nita102495
      @nita102495 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      i think so much of it is situational, like, she obviously loves her mom and sister but in that very public space where she's surrounded by a literal representation of her husband's wealth, her mom/sister remind her (negatively) of her roots. She was also caught unawares so she wasn't dealing with them on her own terms. it's clear that their relationship, especially how her mother grooms her and her sister to "gold dig"(out of care for their future, but so manipulative and comparative!), is very complex.

    When i first saw the comments on this series' trailer, i noticed it was filled with people who hated it and wanted "something new" or "something relatable" and not this "indian crazy rich asian" type stuff.
    People should wish for great series, it doesn't have to be new, but it should be well made.
    New new ke chakkar mein idiots are appreciating mediocre series like "mirzapur" just because its "rAw and ReLaTabLe", while series like made in heaven gets judged just because they are about a topic that has been covered before.

    The truth is the trailer never did any justice to this series. I did not want to watch the series for a long time cos of the trailer which reminder me of Band Baja Baraat. But once I watched it, I was blown away. And even after a year, I like re-watching the series again and again. The music and bgm is amazing, which you forgot to mention. Also the character playing the Production head is also sketched out beautifully. In fact, her character is one which is more black and white when compared to all other characters.
    Also the platonic love between Karan and Tara is so smooth. Both are grey characters, but a match made in heaven.

    Kalki was insanely good and gave an extremely nuanced performance. She had to get every pitch right because it could have gone haywire had she not. Vikrant Massey was unbelievable in a cameo! The best part of the show is it has got everyone talking about it - their likes and dislikes about the show. The best part is everyone has different opinions. What has appealed to one isn't appealing to the other, and what you probably cringed is loved by the other. Now that's success!

I want to watch season2……season 3…….,

    I think the beauty of the stories in this web series lies in the fact that the characters are positioned in an ambivalence, their negotiations situated in a space that allows them to be neither fully this, nor fully that, rather such tension exists in a continuum. Case in point is Shobhita's character. On the one hand she is aware of the reality of her tumultuous marital life but negotiates with both her potential for upward social mobility that her high society millionaire husband can offer, but at the same time she knows about his adulterous side of his personality too. The beauty lies in the greyness of the characters which aptly captures everyday reality of a complex world that we inhabit. I am in absolute awe with this series. Thank you so much for your review. #fanboy
