- Samurai is a starting Class in Elden Ring. The Samurai has high Dexterity, Medium strength, endurance, mind and vigor. It starts the game level 9 with a katana, bow, arrows (flaming arrows too!) and a shield. The Classes only determine the starting Stats and Equipment of the player, but as the game progresses, players can freely change their build to their preferred playstyle. There are 10 Classes in Elden Ring that the player can begin the game with. A capable fighter from the distant land of reeds. Handy with Katana and Longbows.

Elden Ring takes place in the realm of the Lands Between, sometime after the destruction of the titular Elden Ring and the scattering of its shards, the Great Runes. Once graced by the Ring and the Erdtree which symbolizes its presence, the realm is now ruled over by the demigod offspring of Queen Marika the Eternal, each possessing a shard of the Ring that corrupts and taints them with power. As Tarnished-exiles from the Lands Between who lost the Ring's grace and are summoned back after the Shattering, players must traverse the realm to ultimately find all the Great Runes, restore the Elden Ring, and become the Elden Lord.

From a Lore perspective I think the Ronin set is supposed to be a mixed set of Eastern and Western design. Yura definitely comes from the land of Reeds, but he has clearly spent a long time away from home. Its likely that he repaired and adjusted his armor with what was available being more western style armor. Hence why it looks somewhere in the middle.
Man has chain mail and a weird ass iron hat.
@@Salmon_Toastie if you look at his armor it’s got bits and pieces of different armor. The iron kasa is supposed to be like the kasa hats Japanese people wear.
@@Salmon_Toastie Well the Kasa (the hat), and shoulder guard are clearly based on traditional Japanese armor. The left gauntlets, and greaves are very clearly based on western armor design. The chest region is where it overlaps because the coat actually looks like it could be a kusari which is basically a Japanese chain mail coat, but its been so worn down that he used western chain mail to patch it in places, as well as added a cloak which helps cover the side with the missing shoulder guard that was likely lost or destroyed.
Makes sense considering a ronin is a masterless or wandering samurai.
Well a Ronin is a wandering Samurai, and that Iron Gaza, is modeled after a straw straw hat that comes from Japan so It's definitely Samurai enough.
The briar set is awesome, not many people use it either, which is another reason I love it, but it is in no way a samurai style armor. It's a knight set. As someone already said, the Zamor armor set is much closer to the samurai aesthetic.

Its weird that a game like this, made by japanese devs would have so few eastern style armors.

The white reed set is worn by Okina, so yes, it definitely is supposed to go with the Okina mask

For people looking for a kimono look if you use the snow witch chest (ranni chest armor) and alter it to remove the cape it looks like a pretty white kimono with unique line pattern on it I use I think it’s called travel maiden gauntlets but idk

Sorry the briar set is most definitely nothing to do with samurai or samurai style armour. To my knowledge the first 3 are the only eastern style armour you can find in the game.
Look up the drake blood armor set it has the samurai vibes

That and the firedrake set is based off gothic german armor from the late 15th century.
The drakeblood set in Ds2 and Ds3 is based off a characterization of 16th century armor.

In older Souls games there were sets that did this as well, also if you look up the game Blasphemous, its a call back to that guys look and weapon.
Just wearing a piece is enough and it flinches enemies too.

Currently rocking the Fire Monk armor, gloves with the samurai helmet and really like it. It's more of a magic Samurai build.
Some armor pieces have Additional buffs i.e increased blood damage you have to read the equipment description to find out (change item viewt o read more them)

After my mage run I want to try samurai. It’s a shame there’s so little armor that are Eastern themed.
Especially since most if not all of the game's developers are Eastern.
To be fair, it is a European inspired place. There wouldn’t that many samurai there. Even the guy who wore that Ronin armor who was from the Lands of Reeds has naturally adapted Western armor because it’s the main thing to wear over there

I'm with you on the briar set, because of the metal plates! But the lore is a bit complicated... I found nothing on the ancient land of eochaid, since i've found the first sword in limgrave I'm wondering, if eochaid and the land of the reeds are one or at least neighbours!? I hope vaati finds something... But isn't it awesome that there's even a kaginata spear and this other spear who looks as if it is the sword of the dragon in sekiro...
i luv the okina mask. The black assassins' set can be sort of a samurai set if u guys want a stronger/heavy armor set that doesnt eat too much on the equip weight
ronin set with the greathelm is my personal favorite armor set, works well with a vagabond type character
I want to look like a samurai or something cool when wielding my katana but it’s hard to justify taking off the Radahn armor because it gives me such high poise and damage negation.
Radahn armor is ugly. Just git gut and choose looks over stats

I started an int build and I am using the twin burger king mask because it gives me extra 6 int. It looked hella ugly but with unaltered land of reeds it looks insane
From what I can tell the brair set (idk my phone is cracked to shit and I can barely see the armor) it looks like the German hound of war armor, they’ve made a lot of artist choices that arnt the hound of war but I would bet that’s what they used as a reference in the art process

Is the altered preceptor gown the one that looks like a sleek black robe with brown sleeves? If so then I absolutely love that look. Almost reminds me of Anakin Skywalkers robes as well. Great from a shinobi look.

The Briar set is more Norman influenced. Kinda like the Kai or Raging Wolf sets.
I do hope we get more eastern styled armors tho in DLC’s.

You can just kill him when you 1st meet him in Limgrave, he'll drop the Nagakiba which is an Odachi basically, then you'll still run into him at the mountains later and can kill him again for the armor.
Scale armor/white reeds gauntlets/ white reeds grieves/ land of reeds helmet looks pretty okay
The Briar Armour set is definitely not Samurai but one thing i will say it does go well with the Rivers of Blood Katana just like the White Reed does.
Think I need to level up and explore a lot more before trying to get this stuff

Another eastern style set is the Kaiden set. Not the best stat wise but I still needed it in my collection

Any system, they all work the same, because you are essentially just paying someone to meet you in multiplayer and drop the item or runes to you. You select the platform when making the purchase.

I believe it’s the Wakizashi your asking about which is unique in itself by having the Dual Katana combo when dual wielding the Wakizashi.

level 2 is the Straw hat ronin japanese attire, metal so they took a pyramid head/dark souls version of it.
Briar set is European style
The only Japanese plate Armour was Namban which has only plate on the chest and the rest was your typical samurai Armour
