The house has insulated concrete form (ICF) with R22 insulation with total R Value around 25. The roof in an unventilated attic with R40 foam insulation. Windows if I recall were low E impact resistance insulated glass.
Being in SoFla the biggest problem besides radiant heat is humidity so the focus was light color roof, a tight sealed building envelope with high efficiency dual compressor AC SEER 21+/-. But there's much more to a green home than just energy efficiency which is very important.

    Lee,
I have to disagree. I already built one such home and right now I am building 2 more to sell. They are affordable and have lower operating costs than conventional homes. I don't know where you live, but the two I am building are in South Florida and their raw construction cost is about $150/SF
In other states where you don't have to meet our strict hurricane codes you can build them from $75-100/SF. The electric bill for these homes without solar panels is about $30-50/mo.

Why it doesn't show much about ventilation/Air conditioning, and insulation???....which are the most crutial items when it comes to energy saving.

excellent ideas ... but how is Mr. Jones air conditioning his urban Miami 2200sqft home? If he is not using air conditioning its a non-starter. with the humidity in South Florida, passive cooling techniques only offer an incremental help in creating a comfortable home. Moreover in Urban Miami, were this home is located he doesn't have ocean breezes to help w the humidity we all suffer in S. Florida.
