Yes this was a V12 powered modified 750iL using the manual 6 speed gearbox from the also V12 powered BMW 850ci. In the movie it was badged as a 735i to help BMW boost sales but it was an extremely rare, truly custom masterpiece that was allegedly severely damaged during the movie.

@@dins.garage yes, BMW are crap... audi is amazing - Bosch VP44 on 2,5TDI, camshafts, HALDEX sold as a "quattro", last relaible and good petrol engine was 1.8 20V (engine from 80s) and last reliable diesel engine was 1.9TDI 66 or 81kw (not PD) that was stopped in 2004, last good diesel engine was 2.4TDI (5cyl). But they never been better than M52 (vs 1.8 20V) and never been better than M57 (vs 1.9 od 2.4)... Audi are crap cars, better than VW... Easier to service cant lie. But in my opinion if i have to bought BMW M or Audi RS/S i will chose BMW M. Why? Because in audi you look good only to yourself, still VW car and you dont get the same feelings as in BMW. Audi could be better, cheaper, faster, more reliable... But BMW has the feel that other car simply didnt have. Its same with japan cars, you get the feel. I simply like every car but after i tried BMW i know what car is for me to live everyday, after i tried japanese sports car i know what car i like to push to the limit on weekend. Audi for me its about the pose.

The general consensus seems to be 750il was the main car used and that they had 2 other cars(Might be the 735 and 740 you mentioned) that were damaged and destroyed. This was on a Transporter website about the movie itself so probably somewhat reliable: The primary vehicle seen throughout the movie is a 1998 BMW 750iL Euro model, referenced as a 735i. This was a product placment vehicle to promote BMW's 7 series of vehicles. The 750iL in the film had a stock 322HP V-12 engine and was fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission (850ci) for the movie (by BMW) to allow for more "action" during the chase sequences. The vehcle is referenced as a 1999 BMW 735i throughout the movie to promote 735i sales globally and in the USA. The 750iL model was not marketed by BMW for mass market appeal and was very expensive for the time. The vehicle(s) shown in the film are all pre-facelift E38 (1999) and are probably 1998 models. There were (3) BMW vehicles purchased for the filming. And the model badges were removed because they were not all the same type. During the filming (2) were destroyed and (1) was severly damaged. Small variations in interior appointment levels can be seen in the movie, thus confirming there were multiple vehicles used during filming.

To be fair, no car featured in any Hollywood chase scene is as quick or nimble as depicted on screen. That said the e38 SWB with the sport package is a very capable car in terms of handling. Yes, it's big and heavy, and it's not going to outperform it's smaller lighter counterparts, but you won't find a luxury sedan from that era that will best it.
@@ajhieb yes thats true. Despite the size it doesnt feel like it, steering feel is good and solid, response on the suspension too. I love my e38, but even a 750 wouldnt outrun my properly setup 325 in a situation like that. Short corners etc.
If only the V12 powered 750iL with the manual gearbox was salvaged and restored it would be worth triple digits being a unicorn for BMW enthusiasts and car collectors.

Manual gearbox was always an option, it’s just rare for this model.
