The ICON A5 looks so cool!!
"manned drone" is an oxymoron.
I've been in love with the Icon A-5 since the first time I saw it. The colors, shape, concept, just smart!

The personal drone shown is a fundamentally flawed concept and will not be able to operate in Europe due to airspace restrictions and lack of capacity. Not exactly thought though idea!!! The Cobalt aircraft is interesting but like every small aircraft it needs to sell large numbers have low running costs and licensing requirements. Clearly any move to the luxury end of the market will kill these fundamentals. I would also point out that European examples must come with rear skeg and large wheels to allow grass runway operation.
Why would they need that? It's not like there's a shortage of paved runways in Europe...
a lot of grass stripes across Europe both public and private..increases sales,utility and appeal outside controlled airspace.
It would expand its usability for sure, but does it have the take-off performance to operate on a short grass strip?
Depends on weight and air frame performance
You can't make a flying car without combining a terrible car with a terrible plane at a ridiculously high cost. Just buy a nice car and a nice plane, you have to drive to the airport anyway to go flying.
Design and modern production techniques and materials are truly amazing today .

I remember when they first started talking about the ICON and how everyone would be able to afford one. Quickly it turned into a rich persons toy with an extremely long waiting list. The E-Hang I have never seen a person fly in one.
The airmobile doesn't seem to be too stable... The coolest thing - manned drone (to my opinion)
It is amazing how irritating music can be detracting from a very interesting video.

First of all, how do you even know what they all cost or if they are even available for purchase yet? And secondly, pretty much any newer model aircraft is going to set you back several hundred thousand dollars. And even an old Cessna 172 built back in the 60’s will cost about $30,000.
Anyway just do what most people do in your income range and share ownership of a plane. Just find a group of maybe 3 to 6 people who want to go in on it with you. A plane is not like a car that you use everyday so usually you will still be able to get as much flying time in it as you want. And if you need to build up your hours because you want to someday become a commercial pilot this method is much cheaper than renting a plane.
Of course you can also always go with a kit plane to save money but it takes most people years to put these together and many people end up giving up and then trying to sell off the partially completed kit.
the Icon plane looks cool...amphibious too! very practical.

That last one. I really like they way they put the ducted fans right behind the cockpit so you can easily shred any incriminating documents just by throwing them out of the window.

The Airbus E-fan is interesting because they have a 90 seat regional jet based off it in development, and this could revolutionize air travel and make it a lot less polluting.

I've seen 3 of the 5 before, but thanks for this video. The electric one I'd not seen/heard of. Looks very interesting. The Valkyrie is the most beautiful but there is no other footage than the prototype flying. All the other images are stills of it parked on the ramp, in some sort of 'prep' room. Whereas all the other aircraft are all shown flying. Would love to see Valkyrie production models flying.
I would also love to see a production model flying. But as we all know certification takes a loooooong time.
I think those are cool. The last one has the sound of a sailplane but with power.

What was revolutionary? The Ehang was the only one that represented a new idea that have not flown before.

The Ehang 184 should be called an octocopter. Such craft can fly with an engine or two out, so safety should not be a concern. I think at least one aircraft from Pipistrel should have been included, as they have highly practical craft in production as well as outstanding prototypes in testing and development.

The Icon A5 is not a bad looking Amphibian, thou I think I'd draw the line at using it as a car, the folding wings are a useful feature making storage easier.
The Cobalt Valkyrie looks like an updated Rutan design.
I really love the leg chopper. Do not leave in a hurry. twin rudder, rear prop no good for quick take off forget it. the electric cowled props are very inefficient.

I'm not sure what exactly makes the Cobalt Co50 Valkyrie a "revolutionary" aircraft, except for it's cool looks it seems to be quite convential in it's technology.
The Airbus E-Fan is the one I would love to see being developed more and put into production ASAP. Get it to have endurance for 3 flight hours (instead of the current 1) and you got a winner.
The Ehang, if it ever gets put into production and gets certification, then it could be the commuter vehicle of the future.
The Icon A5 was a cool concept when it was first introduced back in 2008. It's taken seemingly forever to move to a production status, and the purchaser's agreement one has to sign is ridiculous (one practically doesn't even own it).

Revolutionary - ICON -as a company they show their philosophy at :53 seconds by taking off and a pro pilot sees fit to turn to the left and have his/her wing tip 1 foot above the water. This is why the company will not be in business soon and the early investors in the company should not be happy with the CEO's marketing tactics. This is why the new owners think they too can fly without regard for safety? Or the unfortunate test pilots of the Icon who as well passed away flying like the CEO envisioned.
Icon looks more solid than the others. But we need ufo style not winged stuff.

That first aircraft is a wonder , to even use it as a speed boat as well , if only I was a billionaire , I have had the experience of a small water based aircraft in Australia was a relic and frightening to be in , but the ultra modern aircraft would be a bit more reassuring , I have seen small aircraft with parachutes that are actually attached to the aircraft and open in an engine failure should be compulsory .

How do you like our Ray VTOL aircraft? I think a VTOL concept needs to answer the question: Will it be more efficient than a helicopter for cruise?
(Is difficult to achieve with multicopters that expose the lifting devices all the time. The same is valid with oversized propellers of the tiltrotor designs.)
Hi Ray. Very nice design. I don't think VTOL is by any means made for efficiency. It is made for convenience. Being able to take of vertically and then have a cruising speed higher than most helicopters will do the job.
You design has massive wing area, and thus will reduce cruising speed and efficiency. Engines to overcome this drag will have to be big ones.

The Cobalt Valkyrie is the clear winner, but the cost and lack of flight certification means that Icon has an opportunity to sell a whole bunch of A5s. The rest of them aren't going to make it.

The Icon is revolutionary in how fast its price increases, while its competition is readily available, performs better, without requiring weight exemptions, and costing a fraction of the price. Aeromobil has already crashed and is more of a roadable airplane - not a flying car.

A good aircraft’s reputation won’t be affected by pilot error. Icon set themselves up with advertisements that depicted their aircraft rolling into turns so low to the ground or water.
Roy Halliday was high as fk, they found like 5 or 6 different drugs on his system.
No now it's stifled by the wuhan virus.
That Ehang 184 looks awefully dangerous with 4 ungaurded rotors.

The Icon is most certainly revolutionary but it's not the plane. It's the purchase agreement you are forced to sign if you want one.
It has some of the most outrages things in a contract from any aviation company ever. If forces you to be trained by them and only have servicing done by them. If you want to sell it the new owner has to agree to the same contract otherwise seller must pay a $5000 penalty to ICON. It also has a clause that prevents you from suing them for anything more then a defect which must be shown to be the cause by the NTSB.
