Excellent review, thank you sir! I have the old Dragon Dynasty DVD of the first film in the trilogy, and have never seen the other two. This box set is beyond epic - can’t wait til I get my copy!
I have the Dragon Dynasty Blu-ray and to see a 4K restoration finally done for the true respect this classic fully deserves. This trilogy should get its own deluxe box set. But we should be happy that Arrow did right with the licensing of these films and we are getting them in HD!!!!!! Amazing as always my friend🥋🥋🥋❗❗❗
Really happy all the 36 movies are on the box set cause I don't own any version of them was waiting for a great release and I'm glad Shaw Scope 2 is the one releasing these films. Thanks for breaking this box set down for us really helps with the anticipation lol, thanks for this awesome breakdown of the 36 movies and special features really looking forward to the next one.
Just catching up on your reviews now I've started watching the movies in this box set. I rarely listen to commentary tracks but like most of us I'd seen 36th chamber a few times so watched it with the Travis Crawford commentary. RIP I didn't realise he had passed until watching this, only 51 which isn't old these days.
i know right! 51 is really young, he worked on this and on the two most recent releases for Error 4444 before he passed on. He's not my favourite commentator but i enjoyed his 36th and Boxer's Omen tracks.
Hello sir, I sat and watched the Citizen Shaw documentary on disc 2 earlier today and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. It was just brilliant to see what was going on behind the curtain so to speak. I noticed that the films we saw being made at different points were Human lanterns, Return to the 36 chamber and best of all 2 Champions of shaolin - in fact watching the sound effects team sat there swinging golf clubs, rustling cloth and dropping swords (while one of the guys was smoking) to create the soundtrack was mind blowing. One question - there was an interview with a guy on set wearing an orange kind of top and blue jeans, the set had like a bridge over water and there were a lot of people dressed up in costumes but I have no clue what film it was. It probably wasn't a Chang Cheh film as a lot of the cast members were female. Any clues? As always loving your work mate.
Excellent video my friend 😀 your attention to detail and knowledge is outstanding here! especially from a starter lol never the films and honestly can't wait to deep into ShawVol2 soon...(still got finish first boxset) can't wait for the next entry and breakdown 🙌 !!!
That’s awesome that The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is in the box set, I’m really surprised that it is. I would have thought they would have released it as a standalone as it is so popular.
Maybe further down the line they'll release it as a standalone trilogy, I guess putting on this set encourages more people to buy the expensive boxset for now though.
I've noticed on some of the Facebook groups some people have already received the box set. From what I have heard the websites/shops that have sold them early are in big trouble.
I’m well aware, I have friends in the US who have their copies already. One retailer in the states decided to go rogue and just send out their stock two months early. Good for the folks who get the full set early, but pretty shitty for all the other retailers and for Arrow themselves. I opted not to mention it in any of the reviews as don’t want to give the retailer in question any extra publicity.
i just watched the 36th chamber of shaolin and i noticed on the english track at 1:24:52, during the fight scene he says "i still have my sword". the word sword is missing. i noticed this happened a few times on shawscope vol. 1. anyone else notice this?
Received my box set this past Sunday. The only thing I didn't like is the commentary track. The scene by scene commentary is great by Tony Rayns. But, I didn't enjoy the second track. I guess I'm more used to Mike Leeder & Arnel Venema & Frank Djeng commentary tracks. And I'm trying to watch them by date released in the cinema. Then once I've finished watching the box set - I'll go back & watch Vol. 1 & 2 in release date order for the individual films
The Travis Crawford track? He’s not amongst my favourite commentators either but it’s cool we got a few more tracks from him for the set as he sadly passed away not long after doing them. Love your ‘watch by release date’ plan!
@@TheFanaticalDragon I get that way sometimes - wanting to watch movies or listen to music according to when it was released. And considering how that I have both volumes & some Dragon Dynasty blu-rays - Heroes Two & The Deadly Duo - it's time to have a huge Shaw Brothers marathon
Between 88’s standalone’s and Arrow’s Shawscope vols 1&2 we’ve had most of his big heavy hitter titles now, but I would LOVE a Bluray release of Shaolin Vs Wutang
@@chrissmith-us3bu there’s still a few more of his Shaw’s films I’m hopeful for but he was usually just in a supporting role, Treasure Hunters, Lady is The Boss, Cat Vs Rat, Crazy Shaolin Disciples, Drunken Monkey and Tales of a Eunoch, and several movies he made outside of Shaw’s that are also in need of a makeover, Tiger on the Beat, Fists and Guts and maybe once all those are given a once over, a cheap double feature of Warrior from Shaolin and Shaolin Drunken Monk.
Tricky to answer as that’s quite a subjective opinion, to my eyes, the new transfers are much better than the DVD restorations and overall are very respectful of the original look and feel of the movies. With no heavy DNR present. The extra features on the set are light years ahead of the old releases too. I’ve sold my DVD’s after I upgraded to the Bluray sets and will do the same with the titles on volume 3 after it comes out.
@@TheFanaticalDragon Thank you for your comment. I think Imma pass until I see releases I dont have . I need Gangmaster and to kill a mastermind in a restored release
Same as how I got review discs for Volume 1 last year, I write the Bluray review section for Eastern Heroes Magazine and run this channel which is largely dedicated to covering Physical Media releases.
@@TheFanaticalDragon That's really cool that you get to see what the set is like before it comes out. Arrow seem to have a lot of great movies coming out in the next few months.
Bravo - we are lucky to be getting such great HK and vintage SB releases! Also, do audio commentaries for everything - I would listen to em!
Well this sounds like the box set is going to be immense & even better than volume one.

My copies should be here by end of the week! I cannot wait....I am more excited for Vol 2 than Vol 1
Grindhouse strikes again 😂 enjoy the set mate!

I love disciples Of The 36th Chamber and prefer it over the second movie.
Hsiao hou's kung fu is superb.
Great vid.
Can't wait for this boxset.
Have it on pre order and I'm counting down the days.

Think this is my most anticipated too 👍🏽

I’ve not checked out the English dub yet but will check my disc and see if it’s the same.

I wouldn't mind an all Gordon Liu set from Arrow

it feels like he has hundreds of titles, but after looking at the list, they did get most of his best.

I have all of the movies on both Volumes by Celestial Pictures in 2004. Im wondering how much better are the transfer?

Flip Otaku has a copy! 😮
Aye mate, I know.
How did you manage to get this from arrow?
