Schmidt worked (as a cellist) in a first-class orchestra for many years (the Vienna Philharmonic/Court Opera), and he always composed his music - even an early work such as this - with such an orchestra in mind.
If this is the Capriccio recording, the orchestra is Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz conducted by Alexander Rumpf, recorded in Berlin in 2016.
Beautiful and exciting piece. I fine Schmidt to be a powerful composer.
Uma belíssima obra, que deveria estar mais presente no repertório dos grandes interpretes
A fine piece! Very nice
Interessante e originale composizione di Schmidt, degna di considerazione, per l'ottima orchestrazione.
Grazie Cabedal.

I didn't think it was, but it sounds very similar on closer inspection. If so, I'll remove this video.
@@bomcabedal Isn't Leon Fleischer the pianist?
this is definitely based on his opera Notre Dame
The other way around, more likely: Schmidt began work on Notre Dame a few years after this.
the other way around!
